Paaerduag with a drinking problem
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Derka Paaerduags
  • Classification: Cultural group
  • Origins: Planet Sorjus
  • Affiliation: Neutral
  • Symbol: N/A
  • Domain: They claim the half of the world of Sorjus and a city Terkus on Sorjus.
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Demographics: Primarily Paaerduags, only the small percentage are other species
  • Description: Derka Paaerduags are nomadic creatures. Many of them don't want to live in the comfort of big cities and they go on various adventures. Even those, who prefer to live in cities go to a big journey at least every 2 years. They are not rare in the galaxy, but they are not common, many, who found their way in the bigger galaxy are usually spacers, scouts and smugglers
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Distinctions: Their upper part's head is more bigger and their lower part is a bit smaller
  • Force Sensitivity: Standard
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Membership: Majority are Paaerduags, other species take only small percentage of the group. Sentients, who immigrated to the Derka controlled territory on Sorjus may join the culture. OOC: basically, your character needs to immigrate to their controlled territory to become a part of Derka culture.
  • Climate: Because of their nomadic culture, many Derkas are friends with other species. Some Derkas met many species, from civilized Humans, Devaronians and Neimodians to more obscure species from the edges of the galaxy, such as Lepis, Yuzzums and even Filar-Nitzans, sentient species made out of gas. Derkas, who met such species are usually allies with them.
  • Reputation: Derka Paaerduags (and Paaerduags in general) are forgotten in the galaxy. Many sentients feel neutral about them, but, because many Derkas make a good spacers, they were hired by many organizations. Also, some one-headed sentients feel a bit xenophobic towards them.
  • Curios: N/A
  • Philosophy: They believe in a religion called Virizm. The religion is based on the true balance of the Force. The deity of the religion is Vir, a god who, according to Derkas, keeps balance in the Force. Force-sensitive Derkas usually became priests of their religion when they are young adults. These priests try to protect the balance of the force between the light side and the dark side. There are no demonic forces in their religion, but they believe that the Jedi and the Sith are very misled. Some passionate adventurers don't believe in the religion, because they don't see the influence to the universe by Vir.
  • Outward Views: They respect many other sentients, because of their advanced spaceships and other technology. They are neutral about the Jedi and the Sith, but some don't want to give their force sensitive children to them, because Jedi used light side of the Force and the Sith used dark side of the force. This conflicted with Derka religion
  • The Arts: They are very advanced in literature. Their literature are myths about unexplored regions of space and what are there. Because Derkas were pretty much forgotten in the galaxy, their literature is popular among them and almost the only non-Derkas that ever heard about their literature are scholars. They also have even more obscure music, because their lower parts can make sounds that other species cannot hear, they have very unique music.
  • Architecture: They create wide, short buildings with big cyan roofs. Before they begin building, they create a blueprint first.
  • Habits: They don't have much habits, but sometimes they may say "Holy Vir!" as a swear word.
  • Lifestyle: They prefer to live together, usually with those, who they met in their journeys.
  • Laws: They don't have any cultural laws, but they believe that any Derka Paaerduag should have any form of transport that they can drive, so they can use it when traveling, but this is more of an optional standard than a law. They try to follow the laws of the territory they currently in, but many Derka criminals exist
  • Customs & Traditions: The exploration of unexplored territories begins with a big party called "The Gathering". In this party, they usually drink wine and other alcohol drinks.
  • Education & Training: Because they are avid explorers, they are very experienced in geography and in cosmology.
  • Diet: World of Sorjus is pretty rich with the fruits. Derka Paaerduags have a cuisine where these fruits are in use. Derkas also cook food using meat of animals from their home world.
  • Language: They speak their own dialect of Paaerduagese. Their dialect is the most famous dialect of Paaerduagese
Strengths:
  • Courage - as mentioned above, they are explorers and the job of an explorer requires courage
  • Charismatic - they are very charismatic. This helps when encountering new cultures when exploring
Weaknesses:
  • Risk seekers - because they are explorers, they go on various adventures, even the most dangerous ones. They may not return alive.
  • Forgotten - time of their fame is over. They are forgotten by many, but not by people who know galactic history.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Derka Paaerduags (and some other Paaerduag cultures) invented hyperspace drives by year 6000 BBY, others currently preferred to live in peace on Sorjus. Around that time, colonists from the Galactic Republic found Sorjus and Paaerduag species. Derka Paaerduags admired the technology of the Republic colonists and the trade began. Many corporations such as Kuat Drive Yards traded with Sorjus and invested into the economy of the world. Derka Paaerduags and Paaerduags of other cultures started exploring the galaxy. The city of Terkus became a major trade hub, many corporations opened their offices there and many people moved there. During the Jedi Civil War, people began to forget about Sorjus and Paaerduags, the population of Terkus was reduced to 1000000 (the original was 10000000). By 874 ABY, Sorjus, Paaerduags and the Derka culture are now forgotten, the population of Terkus is now 100000, Sorjus is still wealthy, but not as wealthy as it used to be. Nowadays, a Derka Paaerduag smuggler called Jho'Henig is active

It's always neat to see little-known species and planets get fleshed out. That said, let's see about fixing and expanding a few things.

  • Origins: Please provide a link to Sorjus

  • Symbol: This section, which goes between Affiliation and Domain, is missing. Per the Codex rules, you can't leave out any sections that are in the template, so please add it back in. If the Derka don't have a symbol, you can put N/A.

  • Curios: This section, which goes between Reputation and Philosophy, is missing. Per the Codex rules, you can't leave out any sections that are in the template, so please add it back in. Are there any items the Derka commonly carry, such as religious symbols, citizenship cards, or good luck charms? If not, you can put N/A.

  • Description: You are describing an entire culture, millions of sentient beings, in this section. One sentence isn't going to cut it. If I said "British people like tea and developed great sailing techniques", would that do British culture justice? The exact same description could be applied to Malaysian culture, though the tea and the boats would look completely different. The template field asks for a "short paragraph", so please give us at least 4 - 5 sentences here. What makes this culture unique and special?

  • Social Information: This whole section needs expansion. Again, you are describing an entire unique culture with millions (maybe hundreds of millions, or more!) of members. Not a single one of these fields should have a one-sentence answer. Here are some ways you could expand on what you've written:
    • Climate: So the Derka respect outsiders, but do they openly accept them? Are they friendly and curious about other cultures, or more just "I'll tolerate you if you stay over there"? Do they prefer to go scout and adventure and then return home, or do they tend to wander the galaxy far from Sorjus and make new homes elsewhere?
    • Philosophy: In Virizm, how should people act? Do they need to help preserve the balance of the Force, like Vir does, or is it a hands-off religion where Vir takes care of that on his own? Are there other gods, or malevolent forces like demons, in Virizm? Are most Derka highly religious, a little bit religious, or not very religious? Do they have other guiding principles other than religion, like valuing exploration, trade, or science?
    • Arts: What kind of literature do the Derka write? Has their literature reached galactic mainstream, or is it only enjoyed by members of the culture? Do they have other arts, such as music, theatre, or visual arts? They might have very unique music, especially singing, given their two throats and ability to sing on frequencies most other species cannot hear.
    • Laws: If they don't have many laws of their own, are they law-abiding on other planets, or do they tend to bend or break the rules? What do you mean by "have any form of transport"? Be able to ride on it? Own it? Does this law only apply to men, or to all Derka? What happens if someone doesn't respect it?
    • These are just a few examples. Every field in this section needs expanding. Tell me more about this culture and the people who live in it. This is a guide for other writers who may encounter the culture, so it needs some depth.
Please reach out with any questions, or if you need any help.
