OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To flesh out one of the Helix Syndicate's higher profile mercenaries.
  • Image Credit: Morgukai Warrior from Wookiepedia
  • Role: A mercenary commonly employed by the Helix Syndicate.
  • Links: N/A
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 38
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Force User
  • Species: Nikto
  • Appearance: Deglarch is not a man who wears his wealth where others can see it. When he isn’t on duty, and he rarely is, he wears his traditional Morgukai armor. Since he has had it since he was considered old enough to be a warrior, the armor has seen better days. It is battered and worn, covered in scuffs, scratches, blaster marks, and the like. It appears to have lost no less of its defensive properties, of course. Deglarch himself is a strong, tall, and sturdy fellow, but far quicker than his size would imply.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Deglarch
  • Loyalties: Helix Syndicate
  • Wealth: Comfortable for a mercenary
  • Notable Possessions: N/A
  • Skills: From an early age, Deglarch was trained in the ways of the Morgukai and quickly became one of the most feared in the order. He is well versed in the practices of many Force Orders (seeing as he hunted them), their lightsaber styles, and so on. Deglarch is similarly a force to be reckoned with in terms of melee combat, utilizing Force Pikes and similar weapons with incredible lethality.
  • Personality: As a man who watched two of his closest friends die and then had to kill the rest when they sought him out in a vengeance quest, Deglarch is not necessarily the most jovial person to be around. His outlook is grim and his only escape from the things he has done appears to be his current employment. Thanks to his upbringing, Deglarch is highly disciplined and not easily given to emotional outbursts or misplaced sympathies.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Combat Function: Melee. Deglarch is almost unbearably agile when in combat, striking rapidly with his saber pike. Deglarch can fight anyone as needed, but is specially trained in combatting Force Users. Mentalists will find him particularly loathsome to face, as his Morgukai training makes him highly resistant to their usual tricks.
  • Weapons of Choice: Force Pike, Vibroblades
HISTORY

Raised from birth as a member of the Morgukai, much of Deglarch’s life was devoted to martial training. He learned at an early age the styles of Morgukai combat and their learned resistance to the antics of Mentalist Force Users. When not training or in combat, Derrenger was indoctrinated with Morgukai ideology. Which essentially amounted to “Force Users are abominations and they must be killed wherever they are found.” It was, as one can imagine, very charming and totally healthy.

Once he reached a certain age, Deglarch was sent out into the field to hunt Force Users. Dark Jedi, Sith, regular Jedi, it didn’t matter. They all had to go. To his credit, Deglarch was able to rack up a handful of difficult kills. He was celebrated as one of the more skilled warriors of his generation. There then came a time for a bigger quarry: an exiled Jedi Master hiding on one of the moons of Almania, perhaps the most powerful foe Deglarch would ever face. To even the odds, he recruited two of his Morgukai brothers to join him.

It did not go the way they thought it would.

Her illusions had little effect on Deglarch and his companions, but she was still the superior fighter. Deglarch’s friends were killed outright, but he was left for dead. While clawing his way off of Pydyr, Deglarch had something of an epiphany. What exactly was the point of all this? There were so many more Force Users than Morgukai. How could all of them be killed in this manner? And even if all of them were killed, what was the point after that? What would happen, except that more would inevitably be born and raised and also had to be killed?

Disillusionment set in, but he retained to Kintan anyway. After some heated discussions with his peers, he decided he would leave the Morgukai and explore the galaxy at large. This was, in essence, a death sentence. In order to leave the Morgukai, ritual law dictated that Deglarch hand over his armor and walk across the Burning Moon Range. If he survived such a journey (no one can) he could leave. Deglarch’s response to this ultimatum was along the lines of, “No, I’m not doing that. That’s stupid.”

Outraged at his attempt to flaunt tradition, the Morgukai attempted to kill Deglarch. They were not as successful in this endeavor as they would have liked to be, as Deglarch was able to kill three of his former friends and wound many more before fleeing on board a chartered shuttle… One that he paid for by pawning relics he took on his way out.

As it turned out, a former Morgukai warrior could find a very lucrative job market out there. Everyone who knew what a Morgukai was would want one on their payroll, simply for prestige and intimidation. Deglarch worked mostly as a personal bodyguard for an assortment of people, generally leaving only when promised more money elsewhere. Although another reason he hopped jobs a lot was due to the fact that the Morgukai were still trying to hunt him down. Every six to eight months, one of Deglarch’s former colleagues would appear and try to kill him. You can guess how that turned out for the would-be assassin, but as soon as Deglarch’s employers learned this would be a recurring thing, they turned him loose. To pick up more money, Deglarch also began to participate in underground gladiator circuits. It was during his run through these circuits that he attracted the attention of the Helix Syndicate and its then-handler, Pollux.

Deglarch was hired and kept on the Syndicate’s retainer, eventually rising into the upper echelons of the organization. Then the Morgukai tracked him down, sending many more assassins than they had previously. After the battle, rather than fire Deglarch, Pollux tracked down the sect of Morgukai Deglarch once belonged to and had their temple orbitally bombarded. The temple was reduced to rubble and all the Morgukai interested in killing Deglarch were little more than ash. The threat against Deglarch was now permanently ended, but now the former Morgukai had something of a life debt with the Helix Syndicate.

He continues to pay it back to this day.
