Defensive Line Mandate

Defensive Line Mandate

Strength: A faction recalls resources, protecting controlled hexes from invasion by approaching hostile factions, based on size. A faction that controls 3 hexes can protect 1; a faction that controls 4 hexes can protect 2; and a faction that controls 5+ can protect 3. Three (3) is the maximum number of protected hexes permitted, and each hex must be clearly stated in the mandate.

Weakness: A faction using this mandate is unable to expend resources to claim more than one (1) dom in a month, while the mandate is active. If a protected hex loses connection to that same faction's chain, it is lost and becomes neutral.

Summary: This mandate would allow some interesting use of protected hexes on the map, forcing hostile factions to consider alternative moves or strategies in their advance. Not only could it be used to hold back a probing enemy, but it could also be used to ensure protection of an important location.

However, locking an area down can result in a heavy loss, should the hostile faction maneuver in such a way that causes the defensive line faction to lose a chain connection to their territory - such as creating an island hex. The result is this lost hex becomes neutral, and can be invaded as per standard rules.

Opinions, suggestions, all welcome.

I'll simplify below.

How so?

A faction designates their allocated protected hexes. They are listed via map hex code in the mandate post, and hostile factions can't attack them.

The offset being hostile factions can go around them, to cut off chains, if the protected faction isn't careful.

I don't understand how that isn't streamlined? Or are you talking about the mandate wording itself?
