Death World Five (Open)

tvzDQUa.jpg

A new world floated in front of them. Only recently discovered and marked as quite the enigma. Helion could feel something sweltering in his heart that told him their was something wrong with this planet. Though he couldn't quite place it. He and a small scouting party had been sent out to prospect the world for colonization, and for the most part, it seemed safe. At least from space. Normal gravitational pull, it spun regularly on it's axis, and had one star in the system which it orbited around in four hundred and one days. Helion sighed as he stared out the viewport.

It was truly wonderful discovering a world for the first time. It sent his head spinning with questions. What kind of fauna did it have, what were the locals like, what were the native species and what could he name them? He wondered all this and more as he stared down at the globe enraptured by it's beauty and mystery. It was an arid forest planet, with the winter's lasting longer then most. The oceans looked rather bland from here, the only notable feature a large monsoon spinning across the globes atmosphere.

Helion stopped looking out the viewport and resumed his task. The Chiss scouting party was scheduled to land within the hour, which left Helion with very little time. He raced to his quarters and put on the black armor with it's bronze pin that marked him as part of House Nuruodo. Truthfully the armor was little more than plastoid and straps, but it offered some protection. He grabbed a charric sub machine gun and placed it at his hip. He was a trained Chiss commando and as such would rely on his skills to not get shot more then the plastoid armor.

Even so, he was tasked with protecting scientist during this endeavor and was unsure how well they'd fair if things did hit the fan. But, it was a new planet. What could go wrong? Surely their was no hostile natives and anything that might be, well, Helion was comfortable enough in he and the marines prowess to keep the scientist safe. Their was only a dozen of them in total, excluding himself. Four scientist, eight marines. The mission was supposed to be a milk run. But even so, Helion was careful to make sure his men were alert and ready.

He exited his quarters and walked through the short metallic hallway towards the foyer. He was not surprised when he found all Marines ready in armor. They snapped to attention as Helion entered the room. He gave them a curt nod and then said earnestly

"At ease,"

They drifted back to whatever had been holding their attentions before and Helion walked to the cockpit. He eyed the terminal computer which piloted the self navigating ship and tapped a few buttons.

"Destination arrival in thirty minutes," The computer responded in a pleasingly calm female monotonous voice.

"Computer run scans one more time before our final descent," Helion ordered the device and it whirred in response.

He crossed arms and stared tentatively at the world. Something about it bugged him, but he couldn't figure out what it was. Maybe it was how peaceful the planet seemed... After fighting for so long, perhaps he had grown accustomed to the blood and forgotten what peace was really like... His attention was snapped away from the world as the computer chirped again.

"I've detected new geology structures, the world seems to have a series of underground caverns running through it,"

"How large is the extent of these caverns," Helion asked

"World wide," The computer responded simply.

Helion's first thought was that it was some sort of giant native creature, he quickly ruled it out. A creature that size would surely cause large seismic quakes. Easily detectable by the computer before him. No this was something entirely different. This was all natural or the planet had natives similar to that of his kin. Whatever the case was, perhaps whatever or whoever had made the caverns could be reasoned with, at least until the Chiss could find a way to exterminate them...

It had been quite some time since the 21st was a full crew. And while they still weren't the full seven she was hoping for, Dezoti was still pleased with the fact there were six. Grant it, two were Nuzot, but the 21st was the best of the best, and there was no chance their higher-ups would give them anything but that. [member="Kee"] and [member="Sinist"] would have their chance to prove themselves.

Within the back of the ship the Captain sat in her armor, idly cleaning her heavy pistol. [member="Helion'Nuruodo"] had been put in charge of this mission just from his contacts alone. It was good to see Wraith again, especially after she, [member="Thadrinn"] and [member="Tryenu"] thought he died with the others. But he hadn't. There was some joy left to be found after all. Still, they were getting close to the destination.

Time for business.

"21st! Get your kit settled and be ready to move out. We'll be arriving worldside shortly, and I expect your best."

Sinist

Sinist had been sat around, twirling his pistol until he heard [member="Dezoti"] say to ready themselves. "Right." Sinist muttered as he stood, checking all of his guns were in good condition and ready. He'd then finally check the reserves for his pistol, before pulling his helmet over his head and nodding towards Dezoti. "I reckon I'm about ready."

Helion felt the freighter begin it's descent towards the planet below. The hull grew a super heated red and the whole cabin shook vehemently. Things that weren't tied down went flying through the air as the Chiss braced themselves whilst they pierced the planet's atmosphere. The Marines were used to such intense drops, but the scientist less so. They appeared miserable as they sat in the foyer. One even had a bag placed over his mouth as he breathed in frantic puffs. He breathed so hard, Helion thought the bag might burst. He went about the cabin, steady despite the shaking. Years as a commando had seen that he was aboard many combat drops and this felt no different. It was even easy compared to some.

The Scientist stared at him, with awe inspired eyes as he grasped ceiling top safety harnesses, making his way methodically through the ship. Once he reached each scientist he made sure they were securely fastened with a single hand and a reassuring nod. He eyed the marines carefully as they stood with mag boots, grasping safety harnesses. But, he needn't worry about them. They were each trained and well prepared. Their armor was white plastoid, with red pauldrons. Each piece of armor had it's own set of scars, which told of all the battles these marines had fought in. The times they had stared straight into the maw of death and come out alive, only to find their comrades had not... They were truly at home in the tumultuous free fall of atmospheric entry.

The ships inter comm buzzed and announced their arrival soon.

"Arrival in T-minus five minutes,"

The ship's super heated hull began to dim as it passed through the clouds and billows of steam arose from it's plating. Helion remembered this vessel used to be a drop container. He wondered which scientist thought it might be a good idea to slap a hyperdrive on one of these things and called it a freighter. He peered at the scientist before him and a slight smile splayed across his lips. Whoever it was, they were surely paying for it now. Helion felt the vessel jolt as it slowed considerably. The Scientist with the paper bag had abandoned it in exchange for a trash bin. He threw up what appeared to be yesterday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He knew this was no picnic for them, and knew he should've felt bad. But, it was simply to hilarious!

Finally the ship slowed to a point where they could unstrap their harnesses and the scientist did so gratefully. He watched as they methodically went about collecting their bags and packing last minute things that they felt was necessary to the mission. Helion couldn't help but wonder what they could possibly need so much junk for? Four of the marines would be weighed down carrying their crates. But Helion knew it was all part of the mission. Besides, it was to be a cakewalk. Easy enough that they wouldn't even need the commando's. In truth Helion thought the 21st presence was a little excessive. But, for some reason command had ordained to attach them to the expedition. Helion decided not to fret to much about it, after all they had had his back more time's then he could count.

He knew they would be reliable. Even, so he couldn't help but feel mayhaps command was hatching a bigger plan. After Helion and the 21st had successfully saved those aboard the derilict vessel on Csilla. He couldn't help, but feel people were beginning to notice him in a new light. It made him uncomfortable. He was to used to operating in the shadows. Pulling unseen strings or wearing the mask of another's face... Perhaps that's why they had attached the 21st... To see if he was leadership material. Truth was he wanted nothing more then to simply fade back into the shadows, where he was comfortable. Where he was at home...

The ship announced it had found suitable terrain for landing procedures. It slowed then landed with a soft hiss and a thud as it's hydraulic gears extended. helion addressed crew as he heard the gang plank descending.

"I want a forward operations camp set up within the hour," He paused then eyed the marines specifically "One of you is to remain aboard the vessel at all times along with one scientist.." He paused for a moment as he eyed the man who had thrown up all over his pristine ship floors. "It'll be you.. Dr.Grend and you.. Corporal Stanz,"

The marine saluted smartly, but the scientist looked less then pleased.. The rest of them marched out and began the menial task of setting up base camp.

Dezoti and the 21st followed [member="Helion'Nuruodo"] off the ship, holding their arms close to their chests. She followed closely beside the Commander, her expressionless mask staring ahead and around, scanning the environment. So far, clear. But who knew for how much longer. "Eye's up 21st. I don't want any losses today. Should be fine, but you all know how it goes." She quipped out, a smirk on her face. It was gonna be a fun day should nothing come out to kill them.

UNKNOWN PLANET

The mission was simple enough, on the face of it: Provide some security for a planet exploration.

Vrott'ryen'uortoqh was in full commando gear, from the armor, equipment and weaponry. Due to the ranges the expedition team would be facing, he planned to use the assault rifle. But, just in case, the commando's scatter blaster was slung over his shoulder, ready for if things turned really nasty and needed a closer touch. Walking close to the Captain of the 21st in formation, Vrott'ryen'uortoqh began scanning the surrounding area with his helmet sensors as best it could. While Vrott'ryen'uortoqh was no planet cartographer, usually sent to kill things on planets rather than study them, even he could see something was... off about this place.

"What the feth have you gotten us into, Wraith?" Vrott'ryen'uortoqh murmured into his helmet, the visor scanning the odd terrain. "And roger that, Cap... eyes up, weapons ready, time to explore some crazy new planet."

Keeping pace with his fellow Chiss, Vrott'ryen'uortoqh kept his rifle leveled and ready. He did not want to be hit by any surprises today, not while there was little-to-no intel about what they might be facing...
