The Death Star III

This was the price of rebirth. The old world would be buried so that a new one could rise,
obedient and pure in purpose. The end of a rotted age.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Defenses: Extreme.
    • The Death Star III's first line of defense is its shields. Rather than a single vast shield protecting the station, dozens of smaller, overlapping shield generators - each with their own power supply - protect the different sectors of each hemisphere of the colossal station. This means that there is no risk of the shield failing all at once; if one sector's shield is overwhelmed, it may short out, but this exposes only a narrow area of the station. The shields are molecular shields, extremely difficult to overwhelm because they absorb energy fire - including ion fire - and redistribute the absorbed power to the station's other systems.
    • Molecular shields do not prevent physical passage through them, so they cannot stop missiles or other projectile weapons. To combat this, the Death Star III mounts a vast array of point-defense laser cannons capable of rapidly intercepting such weapons, as well as tractor beam projectors to grab and hold incoming missiles and small starships. Particle shields are also mounted on the Death Star, but in a more traditional manner - a single overall shield that, while strong, can be overwhelmed by high volume of impacts. The droid-precise point defense systems are thus the primary defense against any physical attacks.
    • Anything that makes it past the Death Star III's shields and point defense systems must still content with its armored hull. The station consists of heavy Quandanium-Steel armored plates built over a strong but flexible Titanium - Alusteel frame, making it both extremely difficult to penetrate and able to flex with impacts; it bends before it breaks. The vast weapon array for the Superlaser dish is made of Impervium, to better withstand the colossal amount of energy directed through it. In addition to this powerful armor, the station's sheer size protects it; key systems are literal miles beneath the armored surface, hard to reach.

  • Hangar Space: Average
  • Hangar Allocations:
    • Starfighters: 20 squadrons
    • Support Craft: 8 squadrons
  • Maneuverability Rating: None.
    • The Death Star III cannot perform complex or simple maneuvers, it is far too titanic to avoid enemy fire or outmaneuver physical projectiles.
  • Speed Rating: Very Low
    • The Death Star III lumbers like a sleeping giant, it will not outpace any space vessel currently in service. For all intents and purposes, once deployed to a system - the Death Star III will only move to position itself for firing it's superlaser.
  • Hyperdrive:
    • Class 4 Hyperdrive
    • Class 20 [Backup Hyperdrive]

DESCRIPTION

"Only Sith deal in Absolutes."
- Obi-Wan Kenobi

The philosophy of the Dark Side emphasizes individual power, ambition, and control. Little wonder, then, that powerful Sith have a tendency to create massive starships and superweapons as expressions of that philosophy. The Sith Lords of the 9th and 10th centuries ABY were no exception to this rule. Colossal dreadnoughts like the Mors Mon, and mobile battle-moons like Malsheem, became the latest cutting-edge tools of domination and destruction unleashed upon the galaxy. Naturally, when Darth Solipsis Darth Solipsis conquered the Core Worlds and established his own Galactic Empire, he sought to create an almighty tool of his own that could swim in this ocean of gods and monsters.

Where these newer Sith weapons sought to be the devastation platforms of the future, incorporating unprecedented technologies in order to achieve an edge, Solipsis's Galactic Empire took inspiration from the past. This was partly an aesthetic choice - the Empire as a whole used its propaganda machine to connect its rule to the lost, supposedly golden age of galactic stability that Palpatine had created nearly a thousand years before, consciously imitating its philosophy and design patterns.

"Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station."
- Grand Moff Tarkin

Darth Solipsis had seen the flaws of a superlaser firsthand when, as the Dark Voice of the Brotherhood of the Maw, he had created and unleashed the Special Project PK-1 "Mercy" weapon. Closely patterned on a scaled-down Death Star, the superweapon was unleashed on the planet Csilla, but was boarded and badly damaged before it could fire. It ultimately succeeded in destroying the planet by overcharging its reactors and slamming at near-hyperspeed into the planet's surface, ripping through its core, but was itself destroyed by doing so. Decades later, when Solipsis seized the Core Worlds and created a new Galactic Empire, he devised a new design for a planet-killer.

This one, he resolved, would solve the flaws of past models.

Although the new Empire followed many of the principles of the Tarkin Doctrine, using cruelty and fear to keep occupied systems in line, there was pushback on the idea of entirely destroying a planet; many in the Imperial Navy and ruling council alike saw complete planetary annihilation as wasteful, destroying resources that the Empire could use alongside the intended targets. As the Empire began Project Stardust, the secret weapons project that would ultimately produce a Death Star III to bring the galaxy to heel, they pondered the ancient weapon and worked to fix the mistakes of the past.

Before us lies the true foundation of power: not politics, not terror, but energy.
Pure, unrestrained, devastating energy.

- Alars Keto Alars Keto , Imperial Governor

The construction of the Death Star III required a truly vast expenditure of resources, recognized even in the infancy of the Dark Empire when secret pacts and hidden deals supplied the initial phases of construction in the shadow of the Core Worlds. It later prompted the Galactic Empire to sign the Imperial-Trade Cooperative Act, a treaty granting the Nemoidian purse worlds limited autonomy and extremely favorable market conditions, in order to procure the necessary capital and manufacturing capacity to produce the superweapon. As worker protections were stripped away and wealthy businessbeings enjoyed an unprecedented ability to exploit open markets, the proceeds of unfettered capitalism were funneled into the terror weapon. Step by step it was assembled in secret, hidden in the Erebus facility above Had Abaddon, a hidden planet in the Deep Core.

But a project of this incredible scale could not be kept hidden forever.

"They are going to do what they did to Csilla. Worse.
Millions will die if we can't stop them."

- Ripley Kühn Ripley Kühn , Jedi Shadow

The militant Jedi sect known as the Lightsworn, fierce enemies of the Empire in the battle for the Core Worlds, first discovered the existence of Project Stardust during a raid on a Balmorran Arms manufacturing facility. They discovered only fragments at first, hints at the existence of another weapon like the one that had torn out the heart of the Chiss Ascendancy. By this time, the Death Star III was nearly complete - and it had added a new weapon to its arsenal. The sinister Church of the Dark Side had become involved in the project, and had built a vast dark cathedral within the battle station. Feeding on the terror and pain the weapon caused, they would unleash a dark ritual...

... a ritual that, swollen with murdered souls, would unleash Force Storms far from the Death Star itself. Extending the Empire's immediate reach across the galaxy.

A raid on Imperial facilities on Archais allowed the Lightsworn to uncover the location where Project Stardust was being built, and they attacked the station above Had Abaddon. However, this was just as Solipsis had intended. As battle raged in and around the Death Star III, the station made a sudden jump to the Atrisia system, preparing to destroy every living thing on the surface of the planet the Lightsworn had declared their home. This would be the first test of the battle station's power. As Imperial forces descended on the planet to sow fear and pain, and the Superlaser charged, and Force Storms began to spread toward the Empire's foes...

Overall this is a well put together submission, however, there are a few issues I'd like to clear up before I can approve it.

1) Out of system combat capacity.

During your description of the materials you state "Lignan amplifies the Dark Side of the Force, and these conduits aid the dark priests in unleashing a powerful ritual. When the suffering below and the chanting within reaches its crescendo, powerful Force Storms can be unleashed to ravage even distant systems."

This makes it seem that the Death Star has the ability to attack and damage star systems from a distance, not just damage within the system, but from across the galaxy. As you can understand, this would allow you to attack and damage others without giving them any recourse to strike back. While an interesting idea, this is not something that will be allowed on Chaos. Could you please clarify what exactly it is you're trying to do here.

Also, an ability as strong as this should be included in the strengths and weaknesses.

2) Hangar Space

In the submission you have a total of 890 Squadrons on board the Death Star, this is far in excess of the max number of fighters allowed by the factory. Please reduce this to bring it in line with the template.

3) Unable to Edit

You mention that the weapon is not complete and will be changed in edits at a later time. This is not something that the factory allows anymore. As such, I would suggest that you submit hte completed version of the submission at this time, and then note that it's not operating at full capacity in the thread.

Sorry about that, I utilized much of the old Death Star as a template for numbers. This has been corrected to match Chaos standards. The hangar space is average with corrected squadrons.

I corrected the strengths and weaknesses to reflect your note, and have submitted the completed version as of now with a note here - that it will not be at full operational capacity - And in thread to remind writers.

The Lindon conduits were meant to simply add a thematic sense and not be the source of the Force Storms which were included in thread to explain a way we invade across the galaxy. This has been removed to prevent any mistake that the Death Star is capable of any supernatural or extraordinary feats. It is as it is meant to be.

Thanks for the quick review! Edited as needed!
