DESCRIPTION

The Davaab-type Starfighter represents a deliberate shift away from brute-force starfighter design toward a design focused on absolute fleet protection through speed, numbers, and precision interception. Refitted and modernized by Aether Systems for service with the Mandalorian Empire, the Davaab-type was engineered to exist almost exclusively in the shadow of capital ships - patrolling their flanks, orbiting their hulles, and meeting enemy strike craft long before torpedoes or bombers can threaten vulnerable reactors and hangar bays. Its compact nine-meter frame is stripped of unnecessary mass, sacrificing heavy weapon mounts and armor thickness to accommodate powerful thrust engines, advanced acceleration, compensators, and highly responsive maneuvering systems. This allows the craft to operate safely within the chaotic close-range battlespace surrounding cruisers and carriers, where debris, exhaust wakes, and overlapping shield envelopes make slower starfighters liabilities. Armament is intentionally restrained: a pair of light laser cannons and concussion missile launchers sufficient to neutralize incoming ordnance and lightly armored attackers, but incapable of challenging heavier warships. Defensive systems follow the same philosophy - adequate to survive glancing blows, but never intended for prolonged exposure to concentrated fire. The Davaab-type instead relies on overwhelming presence. Deployed in squadrons of sixteen, these starfighters form dense defensive shells around Mandalorian capital formations, creating overlapping interception corridors that shred bomber waves and force hostile fighters into disadvantageous engagements. In Mandalorian fleet doctrine, the Davaab-type is neither a hunter nor a conqueror.
