Dammit! Why Didn't I See That Coming???!!! (Malachite)

[Malachite the Shoki]

Malachite rubbed his temples as he gave Lexa a sort of quizzical look, like a dog seeing something interesting for the first time, right before it started trying to eat said interesting thing. He shrugged back as he replied, "Well, I never actually ate anything besides gutkurr while I was there. Most of the mushrooms I found had other things crawling around them that I was not about to touch. But- Ow!"

His expression went from quizzical to a sort of 'please-kill-me' look as he interrupted himself, "How the hell does a fire shaper get brain freeze?"

"It's called drinking a frozen beverage way too fast! It happens to normal people all the time. We aren't so unusual that we don't get brain freezes from time to time."​

Lexa took Malachite's coffee and stole a couple sips.​

"Hmmm... Tastes like you got double-iced. Next time, just stick to the regular amount!"​

Malachite had an expression like a sad puppy as Lexa tasted his drink. Not because she was drinking it. He was okay with that. More because his head was making him feel bleh. He tried warming up his head, but that only made it a bit worse. The blonde fox simply sat there and stared at her for a bit until he replied, "Well, I didn't think it'd hurt to open the cup and drink some. I do that all the time."

Lexa shook her head, smiling. She handed the cup back to Malachite, but not before popping one of the ice cubes in her mouth. It melted only a few seconds after it touched her tongue.​

"Taking in all that icy coffee at once jizzes up your body temperature. If your body temperature gets out of whack, you become just like everyone else. If you were, say, submerged in freezing water, that kind of thing could get fatal really quick. But you won't die from freezing coffee. You'll just get a really annoying brain freeze."​

Malachite vaguely listened to the explanation of his brain freeze, but his head was hurting so much that he more or less just made a squeaky dog noise in reply at first. On his second try, he smiled tiredly and tapped Lexa's arm.​

"So, sudden temperature change bad. Sitting in a hot tub made out of ice and splashing around like a dog good. Got it."​

​

He wagged his tail at the thought, and his ears perked back up.​

​

"I wonder if there's hot springs on the Nightside. I never tried looking for them, but I think there are some on a lot of parts of Ryloth."​

The squeaky noise was undeniably cute. So was the multiple tail-wagging. Lexa tried to picture Malachite in a hot spring. It was slightly difficult to not picture him looking furry all the way to his collarbone.​

"I kind of hope there aren't any hot springs. I don't have a swimsuit."​

​

It was a few seconds before Lexa realized what she'd just said. Oh boy. That was an innuendo she'd wanted to avoid...​

Malachite took a moment to process what Lexa had just said. She didn't seem to be embarrassed per se, but there was something... Oh... He chuckled and stuck his tongue out as her last sentence registered in his brain.​

"Well, no worries about swimsuits. I jump in with everything on, and boil the water off when I'm done."​

​

A mischievous grin spread across his face and his tails began wagging again.​

​

"Besides, I wouldn't peek unless you wanted me to. I'm a good doggy."​

"Doggy? I couldn't sworn you were a fox..."​

Lexa replied, only half-joking. He was a fox, right? It bugged her when she didn't know for sure. It bugged her even more when she couldn't figure it out on her own.​

She finished her cocoa-latte, getting up to throw it away. As she did, she didn't notice that the chair on the next table was out a little too far. Her foot caught on the leg, and she fell forward, almost smacking her face on the floor.​

Malachite absently watched Lexa walk away, wagging his tails as he did. She seemed like she'd be a lot of fun, and she was way nicer than anybody else he'd ever saved before. Most of 'em ran off, or got intimidated when they saw how big the blonde fox was. She'd done way more than not run away. Plus, she was okay with him being a vampire.​

As he watched, she tripped over a chair and he used the Force to speed himself up. As he sped up, he fell on his face and felt somebody fall onto his back. He poked the person on his back.​

"Um, Lexa, that's you, right?"​

Lexa was a little bit dumbfounded. Did Malachite just cushion her fall? She laughed a little, reaching around and scratching behind his ears.​

"You okay there, Machi? That was a little sudden."​

​

"Machi" wasn't exactly a conventional nickname, but Lexa wasn't one to do things by-the-book. '​

"Errr... Rarf!"​

Malacite blinked as the involuntary sound came out of his mouth, and then looked around nervously. Had that sound come from him? Okay, yeah it had. His tails were wagging around wildly, because getting scratched behind the ears just felt so good. He moved around a little bit and hugged her with his tails.​

"Ummm, I mean... Of course I'm all right? That's a cute nickname you've got for me."​

Lexa laughed even more. Malachite was so cute like this! It wasn't even natural how cute he was! She continued scratching behind his ears.​

"Well, it's only because it fits you! Do you always act like this when people scratch your ears?"​

​

She smiled at him.​

"Yeah... I mean, like I said, I'm pretty much canine. I- Arf!"​

Malachite's arm started shaking a little, and he eventually gave up and wrapped it around Lexa, grinning as he managed to roll around to get face-to-face with her. His tails still twitched happily around him and he felt his tongue rolling a little bit in his mouth. His grin turned into a mock-suspicious expression as he tickled her back a little bit.​

"You just called me cute, didn't you? I don't believe you."​

All this cuddling and cuteness was attracting a bit of an audience, as they were still on the floor of Starcreds. Lexa continued to laugh, squirming a little as Malachite tickled her. She managed to slip out of his lap and make her way to the trash can she was originally walking to. She disposed of her cup before going back over and offering him a hand.​

"Well, why don't we get out of here? There's a lot to do in the Galaxy, you know!"​

Malachite grinned as he grabbed Lexa's hand and sprung up next to her. On an impulse, he dusted his back off. There was plenty of water there. Ugh. He'd have to change his shirt when he got to the car. His tails were still wagging happily, though.​

"To the Foxmobile!"​

​

No, he was not calling Silverback the Foxmobile ever again. He realized that sounded bad, and the part of his brain that named things went to go sit in a corner and think about what it just did.​
