Dammit! Why Didn't I See That Coming???!!! (Malachite)

Lexa didn't fight the hug. It did feel a bit odd, seeing as how it involved several tails that aren't normally there. But if anything, they made the hug that much better. When it seemed like Malachite had woken up, Lexa pulled back only a little bit and gave him a another kind smile.
"Look, it's okay. You had an unexpected memory resurface, and it wasn't a good one. It happens to a lot of people. It probably sounds kind of weird coming out of my mouth, seeing as how we literally just met, but still. If you still need some time, I'm here for you."
He was obviously a good guy. Who else would heal a random girl in an alleyway and then get vengeance on the people who'd attacked her? If he was willing to do that much for someone he didn't know, then the least Lexa could do would be to stay with him as long as he needed her.

Malachite shook his head at Lexa, and sighed heavily. He sat back a little bit, not hugging her anymore, and looked at her. He felt a little bit more exposed than he would've liked, but that wasn't her fault. He could've put the necklace down without looking at it. Basically, she seemed like a nice enough person, but even nice people had their limits. But he wasn't going to test that. It was nicer just to have somebody near him, when his appearance usually attracted the "tough guys" or women who would just stare at him.

He replied, "It wasn't unexpected. I should've known when I first looked at that necklace that it would do that to me. The pendant looked almost exactly like the symbol my parents wore on them. My dad gave my mom a belt with a heart as the buckle, and she had the pommel of his sword redone in the same shape. And, of course, as you've probably guessed, they were both killed rather bloodily. Because it was their anniversary, and their presents to each other were hanging from the wall to celebrate."

That was.... horrible. Lexa had no memory of her childhood. All she knew was the way she felt when she ever thought about whee her parents might be. Emptiness... As if a part of her was missing. Almost as if somehow she knew they were dead, but she couldn't remember how or why. But to witness them being mutilated on a scale like that? She couldn't begin to imagine how terrifying that would have been.
"I... I'm sorry..." Was all she could think to say.

Malachite looked at Lexa like she was an idiot for a second, but smiled when he turned away towards the window. She was way more nice than anybody he was used to. It made him feel a little bit weird. The first reaction to him and his PTSD was often amazement, disgust, pity, or a mixture of those. He could pretty easily deal with those: either by dint of yelling, showing his annoyance, or eventually being forced to actually set things on fire if they didn't stop.

But how did he deal with somebody so nice, they literally apologized for his problems? It felt backwards and a little bit confusing, as if he'd walked outside and suddenly realized that his boots were on the wrong feet. He replied, a little bit angrily, "What're you sorry for? You probably didn't even know how to walk yet."

Despite what he said, though, one of his tails came back up to wrap around her. It wasn't like Lexa wasn't pretty and almost painfully nice, and whatever Malachite thought of that, his subconscious was yelling at him to just shut up and go back to hugging her.

Lexa looked down at the seat for a little bit after Malachite snapped at her. It was stupid to try and console someone when you didn't even understand what they were going through. "I'm sorry"?? That's the worst thing she could've said!
"I won't... pretend to get how you feel. What happened to you.... That was horrible. But even though they died that way, you're lucky."
She looked at the tail that had wrapped around her, and began to lightly stroke the end of it as she spoke.
"You're lucky because of what you remember about them. How much fun you had, how much you loved them, how they looked and the sound of their voices. You even remember where you lived. But I.... I don't. I don't remember anything about my parents. I don't remember where I lived, what I looked like, or even if I had brothers and sisters. All my memories.... They're gone...."
Lexa stopped petting the tail, looking down at her hand on top of it.
"But the worst part is... I know that they're dead. Something inside me always feels.... empty, when I try to remember anything about them. It's like my mind knows what happened to them, but it won't let me know how or why. I won't let me remember..."
Of anything she could've asked for when she first met her adopted brother Azekor, it would of been for her memories. All she wanted to know was who her family was. If she couldn't learn anything else, at least that. But he couldn't of given that to her. No one could.

"Are you trying to make me cry?" was all Malachite said for a minute. And then his subconscious kicked his conscious in the face, and he wrapped his arms around Lexa again, with far more warmth than he had a few minutes ago. Memory repression was one thing, but actually being unable to remember anything was completely different.

After a couple of minutes, he spoke again, "I don't think you're repressing your memories. It feels less blank, and more... like a wall. But... if they're dead, would you really want to know how they died?"

Lexa was surprised that Malachite would hug her like this after how he was a few minutes ago.
"Yes. Because then at least I'd know something, ANYTHING about them. If I knew how it happened, maybe I could seek vengeance, or make a memorial, or at least feel some kind of closure. Not knowing? I think that hurts worse."
If just one memory would resurface, even something as small as the color of their hair or eyes... Lexa sighed deeply, a bit more depressed than before.

Malachite squeezed Lexa a little bit and smiled at her. He could understand wanting closure, although knowing how his parents died had been more trauma than closure. But maybe that had just been because he'd seen it happen himself. He looked into her face and smiled a bit wider as he said, "You'll find them, eventually..." His smile faded a little and he sighed again, "The question is what will happen to you when you do. Or will you even remember them? Maybe... maybe it's better to be happy with a little bit of doubt, than to hit yourself with too much at once."

"Yeah..."
Lexa fell silent and just sat there for a while, wrapped in a massive sea of soft and warm fur. ((OOC: Congratz on becoming her new blanket/teddy bear :p))
After a long time, she looked at Malachite and smiled crookedly.
"Not that this isn't fun and all, but.... Do you wanna grab some coffee or something? It is morning now after all. Hmm... But I might need to change my shirt."
[member="Malachite the Shoki"]

Malachite smiled back at Lexa, glad that his being a gigantic ball of fur was at least good for something, and pulled back a little bit before he looked out the window. It was morning... They'd been sitting in his car for close to three hours? Damn. Well, whatever. They had to not be parked here when the two thieves were found dead. He chuckled at the thought and replied, "Yeah, let's go get something to eat... Just not here. I don't wanna get my speeder impounded because somebody died next to it."

He uncurled himself from around Lexa and hopped into the driver's seat before putting back to its normal upright position. He grinned at her and nodded towards the passenger seat, "C'mon... You gotta tell me where we're going, after all. I'm just a pyromaniacal country hick."

[member="Lexa Kimene"]

Lexa grinned and climbed back into the passenger's seat. She pulled up the holo-map and typed in the nearest Starcreds.
"So, uh... If you don't mind me asking, what exactly... are you?"
Lexa said carefully. She didn't want to sound offensive or anything. But she was still really curious about Malachite.
[member="Malachite the Shoki"]

Malachite smirked as he turned the speeder on and took off, the almost inaudible sound of the engine melted the rest of the tension in his mind away. He replied, "A very eloquent drunk once called me a Roofie. I think I'll stick to that title. I'm also part Calian, if that makes any sense to anybody."

[member="Lexa Kimene"]

Lexa had only heard a little about Rufel- erm- Ruflerfuin? Rufelifian? Meh! She'd only heard a little bit about Roofies in her lifetime. Mainly just a few stories here and there. She never thought she'd actually get to meet one. It had been nearly impossible to believe that there was a race out there with so many tales, such fox-like ears, and such soft fur! But seeing it in person? It was AWESOME!!!
"So I'm guessing that makes you a bit older than me right? I always heard Roofies had really long lifespans..."
[member="Malachite the Shoki"]

Malachite chuckled a little bit, and pulled around a corner as they talked. At least Lexa knew a bit about Ruferalahuin, already. That made his life easier. The fact that she didn't seem to mind the idea that he might be older than her. He nodded quickly, and answered back, "I stopped wanting to know how old I was a while ago, but I think I'm in my fifties right now. Really young for a normal guy of my species, but with the Calian mixed in, who knows what I'll live to?"

[member="Lexa Kimene"]

FIFTY??!! Damn... Lexa'd never felt so young in her life! But it didn't matter that much. The way his aging process went, he was around the same age as her right? So she was fine with that.
"Are they all.... Well..... Tall, like you?"
Lexa asked. She was still getting used to just how big Malachite was.
[member="Malachite the Shoki"]

At the last question, Malachite couldn't help but snort. His dad had barely even come up to his shoulder, and the one or two other Ruffies he'd ever met had looked at him like a freak. They were shorter than most people he'd met. His smirk grew a little bigger and he replied, "Uh, no... They're all really tiny. I think you're probably almost a foot taller than my dad was. Like I said, though, my mom was Calian. Six foot seven. Made me wonder how they even got married."

[member="Lexa Kimene"]

((OOC: Everyone has days like that. It sucks...))
"Well, I guess height isn't everything?"
Lexa said with a crooked smile. It was kind of hard to picture someone so incredibly short marry someone that tall. But, love works in mysterious ways...
"I take it you got your skill with Fire Shaping from them, too?"
[member="Malachite the Shoki"]

((It's better, now. Didn't sleep, but y'know... COFFEE!))

Malachite laughed hard at that, and he felt a couple of his tails wag in the back of the car. The thought crossed his mind that that wasn't what he'd meant, but... whatever. It'd been a while since somebody had made him actually laugh. Laughing at the idiots he often fought didn't count. That was mocking laughter. He replied, "Certainly didn't matter to them... Thought they were a couple of badasses. My dad with his flaming sword and my mom with her gunfighting. Both thought they were freaking immortal. Guess I'm not any better."
