Name: Dallur
Designation: Semi-sentient
Homeworld: Dromund Kass
Language: Very rudimentary communication between individuals occurs through telepathy
Average height of adults: 1.7-2.0 meters, from ground to withers
Skin color: Light grey
Hair color: Coat color is usually in a shade of grey, but ranges from pure black(rare) to pure white(very rare). Mane is a tone lighter than the coat, except for pure black Dallur who have mane of the same color
Breathes: Type 1
Strengths:
  • Too Strong – Dallur are muscular equines, resembling draft horses. They have no trouble carrying heavy riders or pulling excessive loads; four pairs of stocky legs provide good traction in difficult terrain, especially relatively soft soil of vast marshlands of their native planet. An adult Dallur can carry a heavy-armored rider, together with other equipment and provisions, while also wearing specially crafted armour themselves.
  • Pony do a Trick – With proper training, Dallur can be made into anything from parade to warhorses. They are highly submissive when away from the herd, whilst being completely untamable when a part of the herd. The trick is to separate the Dallur from its flock.
  • Collective Mind – Dallur are Force-sensitive, utilizing a very primordial form of telepathy which connects their minds into a large swarm where information vital to survival in the harsh environment of Dromund Kass is stored. All members of a herd are mentally connected, sharing information on predators, feeding grounds or water wells. Mental bond is passed from female Dallur to the colt, so the young are born connected to their maternal herd.
  • Loyal to the Bone – Dallur are very loyal towards their own herd and often go to extensive lenghts to secure the survival of their herd. This includes fending off predators, even at the cost of their own life.
Weaknesses:

  • Too Slow – Mammoth size comes at a cost in the form of slow speed and reduced agility. Dallur cannot run for long distances without extensive rest. This makes them ill-suited for long riding routes and/or galloping. Generally, they take longer to accelerate and decelerate to full running speed.
  • Fair Skin – Having evolved under a constant overcast, intensive sunlight and heat easily incapacitate this steed. Exposure to high temperatures and sunlight causes them to overheat rapidly and may result in heartattack and death
  • Untamed Heart – Dallur are extremely hard to tame. Taming can be exclusively done by a Force user, who has some aptity in the art of Animal Control and only at a very specific time. Since their minds are part of mental swarm in their own herd, they cannot be influenced by anyone who is not part of that mental link. Since Dallur do not understand the concept of name, even the most powerful Force-users who mastered telepathy cannot single out one Dallur out of the herd, since they have no way of knowing which mind of which animal they've invaded. The only chance to tame a Dallur is to try with a stallion in mating season, when the male equines leave the mental swarm of their own herd to roam and search of females from another herd to mate. Stallions mix between the herds, assuring sufficient genetic variability, where female Dallur are often inseminated by stallions of other herds. Stallions are thus the only way how different herds can exchange information, which proves useful as herds migrate across the continent in search of food.
  • Herd Mentality – Taming a Dallur stallion requires the Force-user to replace the mental swarm of the herd with his own mind, forming a permanent connection. Mind-melting with an equine is eerie for most sentient beings; the link becomes stronger as time passes. Over the lifespan of a Dallur stallion, the line between the rider and the steed begins to blurr, and the two literally merge into the same being. Subsequently, the death of the steed leads to death of rider and vice versa.
  • Fear of Fire – These equines are very afraid of fire and begin panicking when they see it. Whenever lightning sets fire to trees and bush, they tend to run away from it as far as they can. In this regard, they fear fire more than any of their natural adversaries.
Distinctions: Dallur have two distinctive features; eight legs and bioluminescence. Additional legs evolved to help the equines traverse over soft marshy soil, where hooves were sinking easily into the ground. Having two pairs of extra hooves decreases the pressure on the surface and minimizes sinking. Bioluminesce is Dallur's adaptation to poor visibility in foggy and damp atmosphere of Dromund Kass and a direct consequence of a parasitic bacteria living in their skin. Bacteria literally lives off the pheromones Dallur excrete, with largest bioluminiscent patches being around the hooves and on the forehead of the equine and also in the eyes. Bioluminescence also helps to confuse predators and allow members of the herd to see each other in the poor visibility of Dromund Kass swamps.
Average Lifespan: 40 standard years
Races: N/A
Estimated Population: Quarter of a million Dallur roam the plains and marshlands of Dromund Kass
Diet: Herbivores; grass, moss
Communication: Collective consciousness allows for exchange of rudimentary information about the environment
Culture: Hierarchy in the herd is established by seniority and is rarely contested.
Technology level: Dallur do not have the cognitive capacity to use tools, let alone make them.
General behavior: Dallur are peaceful animals, most of their days spent grazing and roaming through the plains in search of food. Members of the herd are never far away from one another; most of the time, they move in unison which is a beautiful sight to observe. They are not easily agitated, but are capable of aggression if someone or something threatens the herd.
History: Dallur stallions were firstly domesticated by Sith Lords residing on the planet, finding elegance in this archaic form of transportation. Since they are so hard to domesticate, very few ever made it off the planet. Due to their specific herd mentality, they were unsuitable as pets and thus remained mostly part of dark folklore.
Notable Player-Characters: N/A
Intent: To create specific land transportation/battlemounts for the Primeval army or anyone from Primeval who wishes to be in touch with their beastly side. Dallur are also available to Primeval allies, if they so choose.
