OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a warbeast for Enyo and her posse to use since she has no respect for animal rights. This creature is a modification of a Chaos Canon animal species called the Cylix. Thus it can be considered a subrace. I have the permission of the submitter, [member="Tegaea Alcori"], to make this sub.
  • Image Credit: Here. Cyborg Lion by BrandonCrawford2002. Found on brandoncrawford2002.deviantart.com. The Cyberlix is less mechanised than the lion in the image, but it's the closest visualisation available.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Links: Cylix, Iron Fist Consortium, Enyo Typhos.
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Cyberlix
  • Designation: Semi-sentient
  • Homeworld: Cylix originate on Dahomey. Enyo created the Cyberlix in a secret lab on Coruscant.
  • Language: Growls, hisses, purrs.
  • Average Lifespan: Max 10 - 15 years. The experimentation shortens it greatly though, as does combat.
  • Estimated Population: Rare
  • Description: A mechanically altered variant of the baseline Cylix. In short, it's a six-legged lion with vicious durasteel teeth and fangs and a brain implant. It is a ferocious, canny predator, but still outmatched by modern weapons such as blasters, unless it is able to ambush and outmanoeuvre its quarry.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: Same as Cylix. 0. 8 m at the shoulder. Male is usually larger than female.
  • Average length of adults: Same as Cylix. Almost 2 m long including tail.
  • Skin color: Pinkish under the fur, like Cylix.
  • Hair color: Same as Cylix. Beige and sandy are the most common, though occasionally reddish pelts have been spotted.
  • Distinctions: The Cyberlix resembles a lion, but has several key difference. The first is that it has an extra pair of legs. These legs are not evenly spread down the torso, but the first two pairs are closer together and are slightly smaller than the rear pair. The Cyberlix can rear up its hind legs briefly to use four sets of claws to slash an opponent. Claws are made out of durasteel, like the teeth. It is 25% heavier than the Cylix. The tail of the creature is relatively short and unadorned. It has a small furry patch on the end. Both males and females have a mane-like fringe, though males have larger and more distinctive ones.
  • Races: N/A, the Cyberlix are a Cylix race.
Strengths:
  • Predator. The baseline Cylix is already a ferocious and dangerous animal, a mouth filled with vicious teeth and each of its six legs ends with razor sharp claws. The Cyberlix improves on this with durasteel teeth and claws. Upgraded slashing claws and fangs make it more dangerous in close quarters, able to rip off limbs and splinter bones.
  • Like the baseline Cylix, they are highly skilled at climbing and good at ambushes.
  • Cybernetic alteration of the creature's brain makes it more obedient to its controller. Cyberlix are a lot less likely to pick a fight with one another or eat their controller. At the same time they retain their ferocity. Directed fury and obedience makes them more reliable. Rather than being sole hunters, they are conditioned to operate in packs, thoughts fights for dominance can still occur.
Weaknesses:
  • Their fur and hide still makes them vulnerable to firearms, fire, blasters, melee weapons and so on. Their fur is also rather flammable. No protection against lightsabres.
  • Weak against armour. Their teeth and claws are better at damaging targets wearing armour and can still inflict bruising damage, but cannot rip through heavy armour plating.
  • While the body itself is largely unaltered, artificial components are vulnerable to ion, electricity, EMP and so on. Damage to the brain implant is dangerous.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Meat. Not above eating carrion.
  • Communication: Scent, verbal, body language. Brain implants can be used to relay commands.
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Like the Cylix, the Cyberlix are aggressive predators. Their aggression is directed against all beings that aren't Cyberlix, excluding their handlers. Cyberlix have been neutered, so they do not produce cubs. Thus the only way to replenish their numbers is to convert new Cylix or resort to cloning. This keeps their numbers low.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Cylix is a ferocious predator native to Dahomey. In the old days, their numbers were considerable. Foreign visitors referred to them as the kings among the beasts that populated the tropical planet. Among Dahomian warriors, it was considered a great test of skill to hunt - or tame one. However, they fell on hard times during the outbreak of the Gulag Virus, which diminished their numbers just as ravenously as those of the humans. Others were hunted down and killed by the natives to protect their meagre possessions.

By the time an Omega Pyre liberation force, led by Tegaea Alcori and Siobhan Kerrigan, freed the planet from the grip of warlords, the Cylix had suffered severe damage to their numbers. With an increased demand for exotic animals and expanding farmsteads, the Cylix was increasingly seen as something to exploit or a menace to be killed. For all their power, they were outmatched by a blaster.

Omega Protectorate and later Firemane Industries enacted measures to conserve the surviving Cylix population, and crack down on poaching. Measures have included the creation of national parks and game reserves, though a few of the majestic beasts have been transported offworld and put in zoos.

However, poaching still occurs. Some Cylix ended up in the hands of the Iron Fist Consortium. Enyo Typhos lacks Siobhan Kerrigan's respect for animal rights or affection for dangerous beasts. So what she saw was an opportunity. It helps that she has a mad scientist in her employ. Doctor Zakarias Vont, a specialist in cybernetics, requested that a few specimen be captured.

Thus the Cyberlix came into being. The Terminatrix took a personal interest in the project. Compared to many of the various cybernetically or alchemically altered warbeasts that have populated the Galaxy for ages. the alterations are probably not the most extensive. However, the project represents Enyo's first foray into the area.

Enyo wanted her minions to carry out two modifications. Firstly, alter its brain. Secondly, give it some new claws and teeth to make it more deadly in combat. As a result the Cyberlix gained new strengths and weaknesses. It was endowed with upgraded slashing claws and fangs, while directed fury and obedience made it more controllable. Cyberlix are more easily directed, less likely to suddenly fight each other, but still ferocious in battle.

While Enyo regards the felines as tools, she treats them well and gives them plenty of stuff to hunt and kill. She uses their implants to relay commands to them. Sometimes, traitors and captured enemies of her cartel are fed to them. While Enyo is no sadist, she's found that the sight of a transgressor being torn apart and devoured by a hungry lion is a useful tool of deterrence.

Very similar to the baseline species, with the new strengths being nicely balanced with relevant weaknesses.

I like it.
