DESCRIPTION
A silvered skullcap, rather than a ring of steel or tiara, the Crown of Verity is capable of altering its size and shape to fit on the heads of sentient species; the helmet fits around the head, exposing the eyes. Later, it was inscribed with bendu wards and upgraded with crystalline technologies, specialized wave-sensing components, and an interface helmet that could amplify its user’s telepathic abilities -- turning it into a complex ESP (extra-sensory perception) device.
The Crown greatly amplified the natural psychic ability of the user, by strengthening their brainwaves. Only experienced mentalist with a high aptitude could use the artifact effectively, as non-mentalist or one with nascent ability would be overwhelmed by it without well-trained, disciplined minds; users who are unprepared for the sheer enormity of this increased psychic input can be quickly and easily overwhelmed, resulting in insanity, coma, permanent brain damage or even death.
After recovering the artifact, Romi Jade used her telepathic powers to help re-calibrate the Crown -- aiming to turn the device into a totem of focus. After spending a large chunk of her time in conflict with the Sith, and her mental abilities growing, the newly rebuilt Crown was further upgraded to help create the perfect meditation tool and increase the range of her Battle Meditation and Melds.
Three Functions:
The original power and function of the Crown of Verity was that it forced any who wore it to discern the truth from lies. A side effect of this, was that the wearer was also inhibited from speaking falsehoods, making them a paragon of truth. However, this became nearly impossible over distances greater than a handful of meters, mostly extending only to those in the immediate vicinity of the user in its normal limit and was usable in this function only.
The secondary function was to help detect and locate Force signatures. With the help of embedded Thaissen crystals, the Crown could designate Force signatures as points of light, with the glow of each point indicating the relative power level of the individual. The Crown helps the wearer read their auras i.e seeing their moods displayed as various coronal shades. When sourcing out Force-sensitive individuals — blue normally aligned with that of a lightsider, red a darksider, and violet designating those of neither alignment.
The third and most used function consisted of amplifying telepathic & meditative abilities i.e Telepathy, Battle Meditation etc -- increasing range and power. As meditation and any abilities derived from it usually require focus and lack of movement to maintain, the Crown allows for mobility and clarification in the thick of heated situations i.e battlefields. It functions as a mobile meditation chamber.
History:
Created by the ancient culture of Benetage, the Crown of Verity was used as the symbol of the office of the Magistrates. When the planet was left abandoned, it eventually came to be stored within the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
The Crown was studied in depth by the Ithorian Jedi Master Tobar Ka-Teen, who was fascinated by the philosophy of the truth and hoped to duplicate the Crown's powers. During his studies, Ka-Teen was permitted to take the Crown to the vergence on Auratera in the Outer Rim of the galaxy. Accompanied to the ruins of Acablas by several squads of troopers of the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. During his time at Acablas, Contingency Order 66 was enacted by his clone troopers. The fate of the Crown, Master Ka-Teen, and the clone troopers was never discovered.
