Question Criminal Activity

What is the general consensus on committing criminal activity in the following scenarios:

A) Canon location x that is in a major faction's cloud? I assume you'd have to let the MF know at some point or another. Or do you? Do you explicitly have to discuss it with them beforehand? Or can I just SURPRISE here's a thread of me preparing to rob this bank or whatever the case may be?

B) Location x that is not apart of any major faction cloud BUT is Writer created/Character affiliated?

In either case, you could just surprise initiate something and hope someone else bites, but speaking from my experience of trying just that (on Denon and Epoch) it's likely the thread may go unnoticed & unincorporated by the creator/faction without some amount of hype or buy-in from them.

I can only speak from personal anecdote, and from a single writer/minor faction POV – the locations belong to everyone and no-one. You don't have to inform a faction that you're writing a surprise attack or crime spree on their turf, but the thread will only have as much impact as however many people come across it unadvertised, and the lasting impact will only worth the investment and character development brought to those who do respond

Otherwise it's likely to get the sitcom-reset treatment at the next thread that occurs there. Not even out of intentionally ignoring stuff, it's just easy to miss spontaneous threads like that sometimes.

TLDR: you dont have to inform them, but they don't have to canonize your thread either

Also - this is just an anecdotal answer from an individual writer perspective, I am no authority on anything and definitely thought this was in the Roleplay Discussion board – my apologies

So you can write on any planet you want without needing permission from anyone. You don't need to seek out permission from a MFO to write on a planet. As Csariden said, that might mean that the faction who owns the planet might choose not to incorporate your thread into their faction story, but it can be a part of yours. Si it really comes down to what you're trying to accomplish.

Any location that's created, or any planet, is put out there for the community to use. You should respect the submission, but that doesn't stop you from RPing there. In the end though, as long as you treat them with respect it comes down to the story you want to tell

Ah, okay. Thanks. That's kinda what I figured but I just wanted to make sure. I don't plan on anything really groundbreaking and will respect any relevant submissions should it come to it.

Well, as an authority, I’m just gonna say this guy pretty much nailed every point.

Like many things in life, it only matters if people care.
