Intent: To develop a more energy efficient and modern ion drive for capital ships
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Aurora Industries
Model: CREVALD-5 Radial Ion Drive
Affiliation: Open-Market
Modularity: None
Production: Minor Production
Material: Alusteel, ion engine components
Description:
With the acquisition of Nubia Star Drives, Aurora Industries also was able to acquire the CREVALD-4 Radial Ion Drive for use in their ships. While a great engine for capital ships, the design teams at the former Nubia locations, in concert with Aurora engineers elsewhere, began to develop a new generation ion drive for use by later capital ships built by the company.
The CREVALD-5 is the next in the series of CREVALD radial ion drives, although not much has truly been changed between them. The CREVALD-5 has been streamlined in some places, giving it a slightly greater thrust power, while also being designed to be much more energy efficient. The CREVALD-5 is, however, only to be used on ships above 1000 meters as the reactors on smaller ships won't be able to support the engines, even with the improved energy efficiency.
