BIOGRAPHY:
Crasdon grew up on a space station orbiting Coruscant, 'Waystation Five,' one of the many facilities that serviced ships and facilitated trade to and from the planet. His mother was an engineer on the station. His father was a freighter Captain who had enjoyed a brief affair with his mother and seldom returned to see his child. They never married. Crasdon always saw ships coming and going, and always wondered what was going out in the galaxy that was so great that his father hardly ever came to see him.

Crasdon attended the station school and learned some engineering from his mother. He took elective courses on astrophysics, galactic cartography, and astro-biology at the station school. As soon as he was old enough, he got a light commercial craft pilot's license and learned how to chart a hyperspace route. He was ready for a future of adventure...

All he needed was about a hundred-thousand credits in order to buy his own ship. Meanwhile, his bank account contained a mere six-thousand credits from working part-time jobs at the station. A nice savings for a young man. Far from enough to fulfil his dreams.

But soon, Crasdon stumbled upon an opportunity. While working as a loader at the local docks, he became aware of a freighter Captain who was transporting some used droids that had been bought at auction. Among them was a luxury droid with an interesting story. It has belonged to Senator Vrenix, a disgraced politician who had been convicted of embezzling funds from government projects he was involved with overseeing. The stolen funds were never recovered, so his estate was seized and sold at auction to provide restitution.

Crasdon wondered... could this luxury droid have the Senator's secrets locked within its data core? He offered to buy the droid from the Captain, who sold it to Crasdon for the sum total of 6,000 credits. Crasdon was instantly impoverished by the purchase, but not for long.

He activated the droid, who introduced itself as BD-3FNC, or 'Fancy,' and struck a deal with it.

If the droid told him where the Senator hid his embezzled funds, then Crasdon would set the droid free and give it a share of the take. The longevity of a free droid was questionable, as the mere idea of a free droid would not sit well with all people or governmental authorities. But it was the only thing Crasdon could offer: the chance to be free. Fancy divulged what she had hidden from investigators at the time of the conviction: The location of Senator Vrenix's secret cache.

After some misadventure involving crime figures also searching for the hidden money, Crasdon and the droid came out ahead and got away with the funds. It was enough money to buy a refurbished Sienar Lone Scout and get it the necessary fuel and equipment to outfit it to the standards of the Civilian Exploration Corps, known as Outbound Flight. Rather than take off to points unknown, the droid decided to stick to Crasdon, becoming his partner during his future endeavors.

Crasdon is the 'mouth' and Fancy is the 'muscle,' insofar as either skill is needed on any given assignment. They regularly take contracts from the Outbound Flight, mapping new hyperspace routes and surveying systems as contractors for the government. Having done this for a couple of years, they've gotten into a groove and are pretty good at it.

DESCRIPTION

The Sienar Lone Scout series of starships are a venerable model of starship at this point in galactic history. The first production of the Sienar Lone Scout dates to the beginning of the Galactic Empire, before the battle of Yavin. Dozens of models have been made over the intervening centuries, leading to the C series currently being manufactured. It is a civilian version of the militarized Tie scout craft, outfitted with extra range and amenities to suit civilian preferences. This model ship has been frequently used to chart hyperspace lanes, survey systems, and scout territory. The Lone Scout is a capable but not particularly unusual craft perfect for private operators.

'Whiskers' is an improved C2 model Lone Scout owned by Crasdon Kaine. The C2 model has better sensors and an improved hyperspace drive system than previous classes of Lone Scout. It also sports a Heuristic navcomputer which learns from past navigational calculations and becomes increasingly efficient at calculating new hyperspace routes.

Two jump-speeders occupy the ship's small cargo hold, along with EVA suits, com units, and cryogenic sample storage equipment. This allows surveyors to patrol the area near a landing site, taking quick scans and collecting samples for further review by qualified laboratories.

The ship's cramped confines contain only a cockpit, small dining area, shared sleeping space with two bunk beds, and a cargo space. A very cramped refresher with toilet-and-sink-in-shower is adjacent to the sleeping area. This arrangement is not comfortable but it is exceedingly space-efficient. The dining area can double as a gaming room, with tables able to project holographic game pieces. Alternatively, the tables can be disconnected from the deck and moved to create a small exercise space.

A holocom communications suite assures that the ship can maintain contact with a parent corporation or base even across many light-years.

The deep scanners aboard allow the ship to navigate in uncharted space, collecting the data needed to map new hyperspace routes and document the characteristics of interstellar hazards over great distance, including planets and stars. Geosensors allow the ship to use penetrating radar and other techniques in low flight to glean details of the distribution of minerals which comprise a planetary crust. Life Form scanners allow the ship to accurately detect the location, number and type of life forms on a planet's surface.

'Whiskers' has been up-armed somewhat due to the dangers of operating on the fringes of 'civilized' space and the likelihood of encountering piracy or unfriendly aliens. The turreted systems can only be operated if one or more gunners are in the cockpit, operating appropriate gunnery consoles. The fixed systems can be operated by the pilot.

Despite this being a modified model C2, all of the modifications are freely available on the market, and can be acquired by anyone. There might be a hundred other C2s with identical modifications to 'Whiskers', if customers desired such.
