SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Covenstead of Rodia
  • Classification: Spiritual Main Operating Base (MOB)
  • Location: Rodia
  • Affiliation: Solanaceae, Confederacy of Independent Systems
  • Population: Moderate - 75 Spiritual Knights Obsidian (Witches), 50 Armed Knights Obsidian, 180 Defense Force Army, 40 Defense Force Naval, 60 Administrative, 40 Mechanics
  • Demographics: Varies due to duty rotation and reflects that of the Confederacy as a whole. 50% Human, 35% Rodian, 5% Mon Calamari, 5% Twi'lek, 3% Zabraks, 2% Mirialans.
  • Accessibility: The Covenstead is a dome-protected facility in the swampy jungles of Rodia away from the bustle of the major cities, but close enough for supply runs and recreation. It is not open to the public, but visitors are allowed with advanced notice by contacting the Visitors Office as a place of spiritual research and learning. Those adept in mystical defense and members of the Confederacy's Defense Force alike patrol and maintain the facility and the surrounding area to ensure only authorized access to either.
  • Description: The Covenstead is a remote place of learning hosted by the Solanaceae. It seeks to provide residents of another world the opportunity to learn more about the spiritual realm around them without requiring transportation credits offworld (which not all can afford) or relocation. Additionally, it serves as a base of operations for study of nearby mysteries by the Witches, and can even serve as an outpost for the Defense Forces to monitor for threats to the Confederacy as a whole. A variety of amenities were also added to sure the mental and spiritual health of all personnel stationed there, for however long their tour of duty lasts.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Library: While not as extensive as that of Vureshakkairn Castle, the Covenstead has a sizeable collection of tomes and books of its own. Many may be copies, but every now and again a Witch will get their hands on a First Edition.
  • Classes: Just because they don't let anyone walk through their door does not mean the Solanaceae won't accept prospective acolytes. Anyone living on Rodia is welcome to arrange a visit and even sign up to learn more about the spiritual world. Force Sensitivity is not a requirement for all classes, but the majority of training material will benefit from an aptitude for the mystic energies.
  • Storage: The local Vault, or collective of rare or powerful artifacts, is far smaller than that of Ryloth, but Witches at Covensteads perform research like any other. An assortment of items procured or loaned from elsewhere is kept on hand for those purposes, and carefully guarded.
  • Hanger: Two launch bays higher up, and a garage at ground level house the majority of vehicles or ships readily available for Defense Force or Knights Obsidian to use. Resident mechanics help maintain both the facility and all the vehicles kept on-site.
  • Spring: A natural spring can be found at the center of the Covenstead. A pristine source of heated water allowing all in their personal time to relaxed in comfort and security knowing the fauna of Rodia won't interrupt them, or run off with their clothes (just keep an eye on new Acolytes).
  • Garden: While Rodia is far from bereft of greenery, the tended garden allows various personnel to engage their green-thumb, add a little extra color to the Covenstead, and provide everyone a welcome area to just walk around, talk, or contemplate the many secrets of the realm.

SECURITY
High
  • Dome: The transparisteel dome makes it possible to regulate the climate within the facility, control radiation exposure (such as ultraviolet light), and help keep out aggressive flora and fauna. It is strong enough to withstand blaster fire, sonic attacks, most seismic events, and extreme environmental conditions.
  • High Walls: Towering durasteel reinforced duracrete walls make unauthorized access by means other than the front door from the ground extreme difficult. They're also reinforced to withstand a direct attack should the outer defenses fall, and to weather most seismic events.
  • Spawn Glyphs: Magick sigils or glyphs about the interior can be called upon by the Knights Obsidian present to conjure various beasts and monsters to help delay or defeat intruders.
  • Ray Shield Generators: Scattered throughout the facility near key locations are ray shield generators intended to snare and hold intruders, or at least cut off their direct access to critical areas.
  • Shield Generator: A force-dome powered by a collection of crystals can shield the domed Covenstead and up to 300 meters from the dome's surface; the range of the protection can be varied via the shield's controls.
  • Vehicles & Ships: A variety of supply, patrol, search and rescue, and combat craft are housed within the hanger or garage of the Covenstead. Enough to mount an effective defense against attackers, or support a larger military effort in the area if the need arouse.
  • Military Sensor Array: Defense Force personnel are vigilant in monitoring for threats in their region, and aiding in Rodia's overall security net. These sensors monitor anomalies in orbit, in the air, and at or below ground level. Tied in to the planetary defenses they can observe the entire planet; on their own their effective area is several miles further than the nearest city.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Solanaceae seek to locate others in the galaxy like themselves eager to learn about the secrets of Creation. While some may become so swept up in their research they lose track of galactic affairs, there are those -- such as Nightmother Vytal Noctura -- that seek to bring knowledge and awareness even to those that lack a deep connection with the spiritual world. To facilitate this mission a number of remote educational institutes were constructed on other worlds.

These remote institutes were built for educational purposes, but due to threats physical and spiritual -- and the Solanaceae's official status as a branch of the Knights Obsidian -- a good deal more security was warranted than most other academic facilities. The Confederacy could also take advantage of such a place to act as another outpost wherever the Solanaceae went, serving a dual-purpose ensuring the safety of both the residents and nearby locals.

The Covenstead of Rodia was one of the first constructed as the world resides near both Geonosis and Ryloth. Supplying construction materials was quite easy, and the Solanaceae welcome the opportunity to given Rodians (and others on Rodia) the opportunity to learn more of how vast the galaxy truly was.
