Private Council of Obsidian

In the stone halls of Naboo, a shadow grew. Dark was the day upon which the Council gathered. Their first formal gathering since the events of the Cataclysm. The small chamber was not as large nor as grandiose as the chambers within the Citadel, but it served its purpose just as well. Guards had been posted outside, intent on stopping any who sought to approach the chamber without the Lord Commander's express permission. Voph himself sat on his chair clad in full armor, waiting for the arrival of the other Lords. He did not have to wait long, fortunately. Master Lechner had traveled with him from the Ventress, where they had spoken just moments prior.

"Welcome, Masters, to our new home. I hope the days have been kind. I wish to extend my apologies to you all for keeping you in the dark. But such is the way when I myself have no answers. But, this is why we gather here now. Before we begin, I wish to offer you all an explanation deserving of your titles. Currently, the Eye is being held locked away where no one may find it, nor use it. Because of the danger presented by this device, only the Nightmother and I know where this device is located. If a situation arises where any of you need to be made aware of the device's location, you will be made aware. Until then, I do not wish to risk the device influencing any of you. But if nothing else, hear this: The device is inert, and in no danger of reactivation, active or passive."

Voph paused, looking at the gathered lords. "We have much to discuss today. But first upon our itinerary: Our organization. As we all realize, we no longer have the means to host grand houses of learning. For now, we stand as one. Though some may still chose to fly the banner of the old chapters, I do not intend to separate the learners as we once did. Nightmother Vytal, as you all may be aware, was named Deputy Commander. From this position, she will oversee the education of not just our own members, but of Force Sensitives anywhere. Any who Vytal and her witches discover that may be a good fit for our order will be invited. This holds true for the rest of you as well. In the event of my untimely demise, it is she who will oversee the dealings of the Obsidian as a whole until a replacement is found."

"For the rest of you, most of whom once sat upon this council as masters of a chapter, your duties will change, slightly."
Voph gestured to the center of the table, where a map of the Confederacy appeared, divided into the sectors that grouped each planet together. "As we move forward into this new era, it is the intent of both myself and the Vicelord that we take a more active role in our duty as inquisitors. Not to attack planets as serves our needs, but to uphold the law across all planets. To this end, I intend to divide the sectors. One of us will stand watch over each sector, allocating our resources to enforce the law, and bring criminals to justice, as we see fit. Within the sector given, you will be named Lord Marshal, the utmost authority on the Law, save only for myself." A small banner bearing Voph's name appeared over the Capital sector, and the area faded compared to the rest of the map. "So, the first point of discussion today. Who shall take control of which sector? The table is yours to discuss. Once this matter is satisfactorily settled, we shall continue to the next item."

To put it bluntly she had been away from Obsidian Knight matters for a while, between family issue and her mother getting married again Kurenai had been spending a lot of time away from the CIS capital. Though in wake of the current disaster that fell upon the Order and the Confederacy as a whole it was her duty to get back into service and help steer the organization through this dark times as best she could.

Taking a seat her eyes glanced around to view the varying other Marshals in attendance, the number small and all familiar in some way. It was a far cry from their strength a year ago but they were still standing at the very least though in their current state change would come. Such changes didn't take long to come about as Kyyrk Kyyrk introduced the new recruitment methods that their order would now undertake along with operations. All in all it did make sense, the Night witches were never tied to any military aspect being more a simple religious order within the CIS borders, having them focused on finding force sensitive and leaving the few knights left to keeping order would alleviate their burden.

"All in all I'd say it will do for the time being, though I do have to pose a question, will the Night mother and her witches be taking care of all the training? Or will we marshals and other masters in the order take over once they become a formal part of this new inquisition". "No offence but I would think any new members would need specialists such as ourselves to be taught the ins and out of keeping the peace and routing out internal threats and external to the CIS".
She wasn't too keen on being given witches with strange believes and questionable methods as subordinates instead of trained operative that she could rely on to handle orders and assignments.

"As for sectors, I would personally like to preside of the Bassadro Sector". For a few such a choice may have been quite clear but she'd explain it for any others that wasn't familiar with her background. "Atrisia is not only a major core world on a galactic scale but also within CIS since being incorporated". "Being my current place of residence and along with my personal ties to the Royal Family there I can operate with greater ease then in any other sector". "If anyone disagrees or has their own argument I am all ears, if not I think that matter can be settled with ease".

Rylan had set back in his seat, watching, listening, and appraising the situation at hand. He'd be the first to admit his part in the cataclysm was small, he was away from the school with only two knights on a personal matter, which he felt shame for being away when such a thing happened. He did witness the end of it though, and while his part was still small, he wouldn't forget the sacrifice of those who fought beside him as they tried to save those that they could from the chaos and destruction, he himself paid a price that he refused to speak of with anyone.

Snapping back from his thoughts, the former chapter master looked to Voph, a man he greatly respected and listened closely to his words. For once in his own life, Rylan was glad to be left in the dark on some matters, especially on this thing that caused so much destruction to their order, where once there were hundreds, now only a few remained. His gaze shifted to Kurenai as she spoke, and he found himself nodding very briefly at her words, there were many questions that needed to be answered about the future of the order, but it would take time for those answers to be formed, a time he wondered if they still had.

Leaning forward to stare at the map, his eyes flitted from one sector to the next, pondering just how much horror was unleashed on each one during the cataclysm, finally, he cleared his own throat "I've grown to love Vylmira and the people of that sector, it wouldn't sit well with me to abandon them now. I will go there and maintain the order they need." his gaze shifted up to Voph's face from the map, and a slight smile formed on the former chapter masters lips, "As always, I stand at your side as a brother, and will not fail you in this task." with his piece said, Rylan sat back in his seat, leaving the floor open for others to speak on these matters.

Gerwald had not had anytime to change, nor much notice of the meeting which was about to take place after his previous meeting with the Lord Commander. It seemed they would waste no time in determining how to proceed with moving forward after the devastation which had been caused by the artifact which was now under the vigilant care of the nightmother, Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura . It seemed the information he and Voph had discussed previously about who the Lord Commander intended to replace him would remain quiet for now. It was the right decision, especially since Gerwald was still questioning the wisdom of his choice.
He listened as the others before him opined and requested the sectors they had wished for. For Gerwald the choice was simple.
"Maramere, but I would like to base operations from Stewjon. The world was once my home, and I have personally returned twice in recent months to aid with situations which have arisen there."

Gerwald looked to his fellow council members.
"I would second the question which has been asked in regards to training. Currently I personally oversee the training of several squires. Am I to turn them over to the Nightmother? Also, will the training focus only on their magicks as a way of using the force or do we intend to keep the diversity with which our order was built?"

The Pale Witch sat still in the chair she had claimed dressed in her red armor. Her green eyes slowly slid from one face to the next as they spoke giving them all due attention and consideration. There had been a great many meetings of late, though such was necessary in the wake of a cataclysmic event. People needed reassured that all had not been lost, and that a course toward a brighter future was in hand. An assembly of the highest ranking members of the Order was a necessity toward that end. It would do little good if Voph were the only one carrying the banner. Hope or at least confidence had to be passed down through the ranks at every level, and it started at the top.
"The Solanaceae have Covensteads on many planets throughout the Confederacy," the Nightmother began. She would not respond to each question in turn scrambling to keep up with the order or who asked which; yet she was certain each would be answered in due course. "Educational facilities intended to help civilians understand the Force," or spirits, "better. Even if they lack the ability to use it, they are no less bound to it. Such places will allow us to locate those with talent and a passion toward order." They might also allow them to identify those that were tempted by chaos and would seek to undermine the Knights' efforts.
"As we find potential Squires, the Knights," including Witches, "at such places will conduct the requisite examinations to determine the best path for them. If they are to be trained, they will be trained to become a Knight Obsidian or a...Scholar of the Force." That was the driving point behind the Solanaceae under Vytal after all -- to learn. "As to the manner of their training," as at least two brought to the table, "Knights, Masters, and each of you will have a hand in continuing that endeavor. I do not demand Witches to bow before the Fanged God," much as she obviously held that god to high esteem, "and I shall not command Squires to commune with spirits."
"As the Lord Commander has said, now is not the time for Grand Cathedrals of Learning, but this does not deter us from imparting the knowledge needed -- Knight or otherwise -- to face, understand, and combat any Force-imbued challenge. As a Headmistress, I will aid you in providing resources and venues for training much as I have sought to manage the Solanaceae's own resources to ensure its goals were met."
Even if someone was not a Witch there was much the Solanaceae could teach them. Likewise, she appreciated there was much to learn from those that were not a Witch. This matter suited Vytal Noctura well as she had endeavored to expand her knowledge since leaving Dathomir several years hence. What better way that to grow the circle in which knowledge was shared?
As a follow-up, Vytal added, "A facility for training shall be provided in the near future. As much as I enjoy outdoor learning, a familiar place to call upon and provide a consistent learning experience has its merits." Flexibility was a key tenant to the design, though it could not be an uncoordinated mess either. No one Master knew everything or had experienced everything; nor did Vytal think any one person's view on the galaxy was correct. Not even her own. It was the wonder and burden of being alive -- ever changing, ever learning about a world far vaster than one's self.

Voph remained stoic throughout the resulting discussions. Gerwald posed a good question that Vytal began to answer, but not in whole. Though, Voph was sure this was no fault of ignorance. She only spoke to what her responsibilities were. Voph had the remainder of the answer. "The Solanaceae will only instruct on the basics. Once a foundation has been set, it is upon our shoulders to continue their education. Much akin to the Jedi and Sith of old, our instruction shall lie in the passing of knowledge from old to new." A master to impart the knowledge, and an apprentice to absorb it. "Our diversity is our strength, however, so I do fully intend to maintain what diversity we can. An aspect easily maintained if students are apprenticed to the more experienced knights."

Voph paused, satisfied that the question was answered satisfactorily. The schools may be gone, but their ways were not. Instruction was to pass from classroom to individual learning. For the most part. There was, of course, nothing saying that Knights and Lords who wished to impart their knowledge to a class could not do so, but it was the exception, not the rule. Voph leaned back in his chair has he turned his attention back to the original point. "These requests are acceptable. If there is need to change the seat from which you stand guard, seek my council, and we shall discuss."

But now a matter was to be brought forward for the council's consideration. "You will all notice, given both our new responsibilities, and the absence of certain masters, there are seats on the council that have yet to be filled. If a knight shows promise, I shall take it into consideration. For now, there are two names I wish to bring before you today. Ashelia Solidor, and Cord Starfall. Both relative newcomers to our order, but both with immense potential. They shall be brought before our council for judgement, so prepare for what questions or tests you may wish to pose to them."

Voph paused, then said, "Finally, before I open the table to general discussion, there is the matter of Squire Taiia and Knight Beric. Over the course of their careers with the Obsidian, they have shown admirable dedication and skill in their chosen craft. And though Taiia is but a Squire, it was by her own choice. My understanding is that she was once a full Jedi Knight in the days before she came to us. And it is for this reason I believe it reasonable to suggest that the both of them are deserving of the rank of Master, If you have any reason why these should not be promoted, say what you will now."

She gave a light nod to both Vytal Noctura Vytal Noctura and Kyyrk Kyyrk , their answers to the varying questions suiting her just fine. As long as their was not interference with one party trying to maintain hold of all the students so be it. Stuff like that always lead to rivalries and internal fighting, something that did not need right now least rip the CIS apart even more.

Leaning in the following speech my Voph got Kurenai rather interested, the appointment of new master to the council. She couldn't really remember that last time that took place aside from her own appointment, or some that were chosen directly by Metus himself. Such a group trial to see these new members would be interesting, ideas and her own test already starting to swim through Kurenai's mind.

She pushed those thoughts to the side, such matters could be handled later as Voph posed a more present matter to the council. It was an interesting appointment to say the least but she knew to trust Voph. People climbing the ranks fast wasn't anything new, her own rise wasn't very orthodox itself. She had personally challenged such appointment in the past as to not cause issues with though of higher rank that were not aware of her past or age.

It would by hypocritical to deny that to someone else, Kurenai slightly shakings her head to Vophs query.
"I do not see any reason to not promote them, having more former Jedi within our ranks is always welcome and with our number dashed leaders are in short supply". "If they are able to handle the new positions and the responsibility's I will welcome them with open arms".
