Could a Stellar Habitat be submitted to the map instead of a planet?

The question is pretty simple. If there's a large enough construct capable of housing millions/billions of individuals could it be submitted as a planet? I'm not saying a full ringworld orbiting a star but maybe a particularly large space station orbiting the star or maybe a ring around a large gas giant, something of the like. I think it could add a bit more diversity and would definitely be interesting to see factions try to build these monstrosities, maybe through special events the same way they can sub Super Star Destroyers.

Can it already be done? Would you like to see it done? Should we all pray to our lord and savior Tefka to allow us to start building dyson spheres and blot out the galaxy one atomic light bulb at a time?

I like this idea. It seems that if it had a high enough population level and size it would warrant being charted, after all.

I checked your sub and I bet the main reason is that the stations can technically move. They aren't locked into their location and staff isn't going to want to make map changes when a station moves. If, however, a station was set at a fixed point and didn't have any capability to move, I bet they'd be more willing to put it on the map.

There's no set rule against an artificial planetary body. And while Scherezade deWinter Scherezade deWinter 's experience and the existing submissions that are artificial in nature (Peace also comes to mind) offer past opinions as to the applicable reviews of those concepts, the Codex doesn't operate on precedent and each submission is evaluated on its own merits.

The intent section does get evaluated when reviewing submissions. A mobile location like the Death Star better fits the Space Station template than it does the Planet one, even if its the size of "that's no moon." There's also the Astrological Object template, which gives a lot more leeway than does the Planet template.

In terms of what exists in universe, there are two artificial planets that I know of: Iokath, which is a fairly vanilla Dyson Sphere, and the Ship Graveyard, which is an artificial planetoid formed by debris collecting at the galaxy's edge.

I'd say its possible. It would depend on the intent behind the submission and how well distinguished as a planetary or astrological object that it was. A space station is technically an astrological object, but there's a separate template for that. If it has a control center and flies through space under its own power, then I'd say it wouldn't belong on the planet template (yes, there are exceptions to everything... looking at you, Zonama Sekot...)
