A rainbow baby, she was undoubtedly born into a universe brimming with dualities -- the regal lineage of Hapes and the mysticism of the Jedi Order; one night the stars aligned in a unique way on the rainforest planet Lemmi VI when she entered the galaxy. Born into the royal family of Hapes, a child of Royal Dukat Johannes Inkari, the sister to the late Queen Mother Merci Inkari, and the legendary Jedi Master Romi Jad; her future seemed predetermined from the outset. Cortana was stamped at birth by the Patriarch of their family as the successor to the Duchy of Lemmi VI and all of the prestige and accouterments that came with it -- some even saw her birth as a symbol that the Inakri-Djo line could soon be back on the Consortium throne.
Raised as a future lady of the Hapan court, Cortana spent her earliest years on her family's ancestral grounds in Serenity Vale, Dar'Benn. Growing up under the vigilant eyes of numerous bodyguards and caretakers, she lived a life defined by clear boundaries. However, It had been embedded in her that she had to understand the intricate web of interstellar politics that awaited her.
But beneath the surface, Cortana found herself captivated by her mother's legacy as a Jedi Master. And her innate affinity for the Force manifested itself early on, initially through the constant and painful barrage of other people's thoughts she couldn't shut out, causing a great deal of concern for Romi, who would initially deny her this path, placing psychic inhibitors on her mind; she wanted a full and prosperous life for her daughter, that was away from the harsh and lonely realities of Jedi-hood. She steered Cortana towards the other half of her heritage in hopes she would maybe one day act on her claim and ascend the throne of the Consortium, and if anything become Ducha of Lemmi Vi.
When Romi reactivated her status with the Jedi Order, Cortana's entire world underwent a seismic shift. Their family relocated to Coruscant, the heart of the galaxy, and despite being initially groomed for the royal path, Cortana found herself drawn even more to the Jedi way.
And despite her parents' numerous attempts to run interference, she managed to petition them to begin formal Jedi training when she was a preteen. Jade began her foundational training as a member of the Jakku Jedi Enclave's first cohort in years, helping rebuild the academy all the while training.
However, her training was cut short when her mother was charged with war crimes and subsequently pulled into a high profile trial. Cortana was forced to end her Jedi training and relocate back to the Hapes, where she was put under the guardianship

, for her protection and to prepare for the possible ascension to Ducha. The issues only got worse when her mother went missing during her supposed extradition to Pantora for the continuation of the trial. In the chaos to follow such events, she lost both of her parents one after the other, then unbeknownst to her - her father killed while helping rescue her mother from the Dark Empire, and her mother killed in action at the Battle of Coruscant that followed, or so she was led to believe.
Cortana, without time to mourn, had experienced another major shift in her life, just overnight. Emotionally shattered, she grew angry, and driven by a fierce desire for vengeance.
The outbreak of the Hapan Civil War irrevocably altered the course of Cortana Jade's life, again. She wasn't present during the catalyst event that'd become known as the Red Wedding, where a Hapan extremist group called the Crimson Veil assassinated Prince Astor Daraay, sparking a civil uprising throughout the entire Cluster. The Queen answered this rebellion with blockades and executions. The Galactic Alliance and the Jedi intervened, killing the Queen in a duel gone wrong. However, during this chaos, loyalists within House Djo concluded that the young Duchess of Dar'Benn had become as much a political liability as she was an heir. Cortana was quietly removed from the Cluster aboard a civilian refugee transport under an assumed identity. Officially, the Duchess had vanished during the chaos. In reality, her supporters hoped only to keep her alive long enough for Hapes to have a future.
Before the transport reached neutral space, however, it was intercepted by raiders preying upon refugee convoys fleeing the civil war. The vessel suffered heavy damage and was left adrift beyond established hyperlanes, its communications destroyed and its passengers abandoned. Days later, the crippled transport was discovered not by Hapan rescuers, but by a lone Melitto operating far beyond the traditional sphere of the Ashiga Clan.
A Melitto, known simply as Rhaid, had once served among the Ashiga before abandoning the criminal syndicate years earlier. While cataloguing the surviving passengers, Cortana had concealed her identity, discarding every outward sign of royalty. What drew his attention instead was her composure. While the other refugees waited to be rescued, she had quietly inventoried the transport's remaining supplies, mapped its escape routes, identified potential weapons, and observed the behavior of every passenger aboard. Rhaid concluded that she possessed something far more valuable than status: instinct.
Seeing potential where others saw only another displaced refugee, Rhaid took Cortana into his care. For the next several years, Cortana lived in exile under Rhaid's tutelage, learning the ruthless opportunism of the Ashiga Clan. He subjected her to an unforgiving regimen centered on discipline, observation, tradecraft, infiltration, and survival. Under his guidance, Cortana became a skilled infiltrator and combatant, skills she'd used against other criminal factions, especially as they learned more about the Black Sun moving into the Cluster and installing its own puppet monarch.
However, despite her remarkable aptitude, Rhaid recognized a dangerous flaw within his student. Beneath her discipline, he noticed that her motivation was entirely fueled by malice and anger, likely due to the constant loss of everything she had once believed permanent. Although Cortana insisted that she trained to ensure no one else would suffer as she had, Rhaid believed her true motivation remained vengeance. Increasingly, she viewed every obstacle as something to be removed and every uncertainty as a threat to be eliminated. Missions entrusted to her were completed with exceptional efficiency, but often at a cost Rhaid deemed unnecessary, as Cortana came to justify preemptive violence against those she believed might one day endanger her or others.
Believing that Cortana no longer sought discipline but validation, he turned her away. Their separation left Cortana embittered, viewing his rejection as another abandonment in a life already defined by loss.
Not long afterward, agents of the Hapan Restorationist movement approached the exiled duchess with proof that she remained one of the last legitimate heirs of House Djo. With nowhere else to turn and determined to reclaim both her birthright and the kingdom she believed had been stolen from her family, Cortana accepted their cause. -
+ Boosted Nervous System:
- She partook in the Stun Test at the Jakku Jedi Enclave, with the longest time before being knocked out amongst her class. The test involves enduring stun blasts from multiple directions, building endurance, and the nervous system; this has given her a somewhat high resistance to and faster recovery rate from stun blast and/or sudden shocks to her nervous system. Its also increased her perception and interpretation of sensory information.
- Physical contact can trigger Cortana's latent Force gift allows her to absorb another person's memories, knowledge, skills, and, at times, Force techniques through touch. Although this grants extraordinary insight, adaptability, and makes her a fast learner, the ability is largely involuntary. Borrowed memories and emotions can overwhelm her own mind, making it difficult to separate who she is from the lives she has briefly experienced. What makes her formidable is also one of her greatest vulnerabilities.
- Emotionally shattered by past trauma, she's consumed by a fierce desire for retribution. This serves as a terrifying source of power, granting her determination, but this obsession can be a psychological blindfold -- making her reckless, highly susceptible to provocation, etc in the pursuit of payback.
- Because physical contact can unintentionally trigger her latent Force ability, Cortana has developed an instinctive reluctance toward unnecessary touch. Handshakes, embraces, and even casual contact can provoke anxiety, as she cannot always predict when her ability will activate or whose memories she may inadvertently absorb. While disciplined training has helped her manage these incidents, the fear of losing herself, or violating another's mind, has left her emotionally and physically guarded.
- Her astigmatism since birth has always caused an assortment of symptoms (i.e blurred or distorted vision, eyestrain or discomfort, headaches, squinting). Also, Hapans naturally struggled with night blindness. Because of the perpetual daylight of Hapes and other planets in the Cluster due to the density of stars in the region, they had lost all ability to see in the dark as a race, and were nearly blind even in dim lighting.
- While allergic reactions to anesthetics are rare, some medications and substances in anesthetics and used during anesthesia and surgery have a higher risk of allergic reaction than others. She has a familial history of this allergy.

As the daughter of Romi Jade, and a descendant of Avar Kriss, Cortana inherited a formidable legacy, and was gifted with raw force skill from the moment of her birth. She was particularly gifted with vast psionic powers, her telepathy manifesting prematurely, and causing her to emotionally and socially withdraw to cope with the constant barrage of other people's thoughts she couldn't shut out. Her mother placed mental blocks on her mind to help her handle it.
As a preteen, Cortana received foundational training at Jedi Enclave on Jakku. It's stated that training on Jakku defies conventional temporal constraints. Due to the time-compressed nature of Jakku, weeks of training on the planet equates to some several mere days elsewhere. At the Jedi Enclave she was trained in the 25 Chamber's Philosophy, including basic force abilities, Jakku specific exercises and techniques, Morgukai Martial Arts, and how to construct and use a lightsaber. At the Enclave she also briefly trained with Melbu Swordmaster Maj Jaan. At this time her psionic affinity started to grow, specifically through physical contact, causing her to unintentionally absorb fragments of another individual's memories, emotions, etc., and she had little control over when or how deeply the connection formed. Although the ability made her an exceptionally adaptable investigator and combatant, it proved difficult to control. Repeated use often resulted in mental fatigue, intrusive memories, emotional disorientation, and temporary confusion between her own recollections and those she had absorbed. Intimacy also started to become dangerous and hard, so she started to wear gloves and constantly guard against accidental contact.
Cortana underwent a few years of harsh instruction under the former Ashiga operative, and Ronin, Rhaid. Under Rhaid's guidance, Cortanamastered a broad range of covert disciplines, including infiltration, espionage, surveillance, counterintelligence, reconnaissance, deception, evasion, survival, and psychological operations. Complementing her Jedi upbringing, she received extensive instruction in close-quarters combat, and marksmanship, developing into an exceptionally resourceful operative. During this period, she became a practitioner of Jar'Kai, wielding a pair of lightsabers, these ones with white blades, made from rare kyber crystals that make them gently curved to mimic a Ashiga's katana-like swords.

Born around 262 BBY, during the time of the High Republic, Avar Kriss was taken into the Jedi Order as a child, brought to the Jedi Temple on the Republic capital world ofCoruscant. As a Padawan she developed a strong connection with fellow trainees Stellan Gios and Elzar Mann. During her time as a Jedi, Kriss worked within the frontier of the galaxy; she accomplished many great deeds in her career. During their time as Padawans, Kriss and Mann had an intimate relationship that Kriss later grew out of; Gios was also said to be involved in the intimate side of the friendship as well. It was speculated that Kriss may have returned to one of these previous relationships, conceiving a child with either Mann or Gios, birthing what would become the House of Jade.
Several thousand years later, Loudomi "Lou" Jade, a Hapan Force-sensitive descendant of Kriss was born. She had a challenging upbringing that shaped her into jaded and cynical person later in life, but her intelligence and resourcefulness caught the attention of Republic and Galactic Alliance intelligence agencies, leading to her recruitment as an undercover operative. During a covert mission on Corellia, she crossed paths with a shipyards worker. Their intense but volatile relationship provided temporary solace from the harsh realities of her life as an intelligence agent. However, out of spite, she refused to give their child her husbands last name. This child would come to be known as Romi Jade. Though, despite the rough start to her life, Romi went on to become a legendary Jedi Master and celebrated hero in her own right.
Romi married Johannes Inkari, Dukat to House Inkari, and the former Chume'da to the Hapes Consortium. Their daughter, Cortana, was born soon thereafter.
