Intent: To create a method to build things that is unique
Development Thread: pending
Manufacturer: Tanlab Industries
Model: TL-01
Affiliation: Tanlab Industries
Modularity: None
Production: Minor(in as used by licensed characters and their company)
Material: atoms
Strengths:
1. Efficient at small detailed work, a circuit, a blaster, a part for a ship or the wiring of a ship. Also things such as repair in hard to reach places of small sections on starships and stations.
2. Can produce and complete small products quickly, and thus could replace an normal assembly line with just a single station, consisting of a conveyor belt and the nanites.
3. Space Efficient, take up little space and thus you could in theory fit more manufacturing in a space due to lack of workers/droids/ traditional assembly line.
Weaknesses:
1. Can't handle large work, such as the frames of star ships and things bigger than a star fighter.
2. Could in theory be taken over by rogue A.I.'s such as Red Queen, and Clockwork to do who knows what as long as they are maintained via their node.
3. Costly Malfunctions if they occur happen at such a small level, it is hard to detect and thus require even more specialized equipment for Quality Assurance.

Description: Nanites work on the molecular level, thus allowing you to build sturdier, purer things, as you can put together a object from the very foundation of it's molecular make up. Highly experimental, and only good for one purpose, these nanites excel at putting things together seemingly out of no where. This allows unique applications to be applied in buildings. Stronger steel, and self cleaning surfaces, and anti bacterial walls . The wonders that can be applied while working on the molecular level is endless. These can only construct things, and are limited to their fed designs and materials for what they can build. They must have a control node nearby them to control them.

These nanites, unlike the microscopic machines presented in so many doomsday scenarios, have extremely simple programming. They cannot self replicate, and do not possess an artificial intelligence. No, instead, they simply carry out the commands given to them by their control node. Which in turn, must be given orders by a sentient since it too does not posses an A.I.

The construction node actually serves multiple capacities. One, it is the hub where sentient's can approach to change what they want to the nanites to build. They do this by plugging in the schematics of a desired object to be built, and how many of said object. Those orders then filter down to the nanites, who then get to work. When a new object is desired, the previous schematic is wiped from the memory. Only ever allowing a single item to be created at a time. Also, when the nanites have completed their assignment. The schematics are instantly purged from the control node. Only the names of the previous work assignments can be found in its databanks.

In this way, a malfunctioning control node cannot start randomly choosing items to build on its own. This security feature is incredibly important, especially in environments where dangerous items could be under construction.

Two, the control node acts as a supply depot where nanites can form a chain gang so to speak to ferry new material to the "construction sites" on the project being built. The only limits to what the nanites can build and how much depends on the supply of material from the control node as well as the schematics supplied.
