THE CONFEDERATE STATE SECURITY

Confederate State Security (CSS) stands as the central intelligence and security apparatus of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Operating directly under the purview of the Head of State, the CSS serves as the Confederacy's primary defense against both internal and external threats.
Its core mandate encompasses the extensive acquisition, rigorous analysis, and timely reporting of intelligence critical to the federal security of the CIS. Furthermore, the CSS is authorized to conduct proactive operations when necessary to neutralize identified threats.
Distinguished by its comparatively lean and agile structure, the CSS strategically leverages networks of independent contractors, as well as bribed and blackmailed individuals and organizations, to execute sensitive and covert tasks, allowing for unparalleled operational flexibility and discretion.
The CSS, corresponding to their wide responsibility within the domain of intelligence and security, is divided into two subsidiary organizations; Confederate Intelligence Bureau (CIB), the foreign intelligence arm of the CSS, and Confederate Security Enforcement (CSE), the domestic intelligence & security arm of the CSS.

THE CONFEDERATE INTELLIGENCE BUREAU

The Confederate Intelligence Bureau (CIB) serves as the Confederacy's foreign intelligence agency. The CIB is responsible for gathering intelligence beyond the Confederacy's borders, analyzing geopolitical trends, identifying external threats, and conducting operations in the interests of the CIS on an galactic scale.
Its reach extends across the region, constantly monitoring major galactic powers, emerging factions, and independent systems that could pose a risk or offer an opportunity to the Confederacy.
To achieve this, the CIB employs a diverse range of methods, including the deployment of deep-cover agents, electronic surveillance of hyperspace lanes and communication networks, infiltration of rival organizations, and the meticulous cultivation of assets within foreign governments and corporations.
Their operations frequently involve economic intelligence, technological espionage, and political destabilization efforts, such as psychological operations and supporting regime changes, all meticulously aimed at safeguarding and advancing Confederate interests abroad.

THE CONFEDERATE SECURITY ENFORCEMENT

The Confederate Security Enforcement (CSE) functions as the domestic intelligence and security agency. The CSE focuses on internal threats to the Confederacy, including espionage, subversion, terrorism, financial crimes, and other activities that could undermine the security and stability of the CIS from within.
The CSE operates within all Confederate member worlds and territories, maintaining a vigilant watch over internal dissent, criminal organizations, and any groups or individuals perceived as threats to the established order of the CIS.
Their toolkit includes extensive data analysis of internal communications, monitoring of public sentiment, counter-espionage operations to root out foreign agents, the pre-emptive disruption of subversive networks, and the meticulous cultivation of assets within local governments and corporations. The CSE also works closely with local security forces when necessary, providing intelligence and strategic guidance.
Typical operations for the CSE might involve identifying and neutralizing separatist movements within member systems, dismantling criminal syndicates and cracking down corporations that undermine the Confederate economy, investigating acts of sabotage against vital infrastructure, and preventing radicalized groups from gaining traction.
