STRENGTHS
  • Tough Nut to Crack — The Concord was designed to have a durable hull that could hold its integrity under concentrated enemy fire.
  • Rear Guard — The Concord has an overhang that can protect the Stardrive engines from enemy fire from above. Additionally, underneath the overhang there are point defense laser emplacements to protect the ship’s engines from enemy harassment.
  • Tugging Along — The Concord has multiple grappling hooks installed on the backside of the vessel. This allows the Concord to tug astronomical objects, like stranded ships, through either realspace or hyperspace.
WEAKNESSES
  • Maneuverability — The Concord was not designed for maneuverability in mind, this star defender lacks the ability to make sharp turns to avoid incoming objects.
  • Underbelly — The ventral hangar is the least armored location on the entire ship. The Concord is most susceptible to taking damage from strikes inside the unarmored hangar bay.
  • Bloody Nose — The bow of the Concord contains half the ship’s ammunition. Once the enemy has broken through the ship’s defenses, the bow could ignite into a devastating explosion. After the hangar bay, the bow of this star defender is the second-most vulnerable location on the ship.

DESCRIPTION
The Concord-class was among the designs selected for further study during the escalation of conflict between the Republic and the resurgent One Sith Empire. To a certain extent, the naval warfare in the Core Worlds demonstrated the need for increased survivability over mobility due to the repeated use of suicidal attacks. As a result of these experiences, Concord-class star defenders were designed with more expensive, durable hulls compared to previous capital ships.

The Republic would collapse under the pressure being exerted by the One Sith Empire. This would leave the Federal Cooperative in an awkward position. The exorbitant price tag of the Concord-class placed it outside the budgets of most planetary governments. Ultimately, the Federal Cooperative leadership would shelve the project, and direct their attention toward building reliable, albeit aging, ship designs.

Decades later, the leadership at the Federal Cooperative would revive the Pacific Program to arm re-emerging democratic forces. The Concord-class required negligible changes in its design, so went into production in early 858. Two years later the first generation of star defenders would be completed, and sold to democratic forces across the Galaxy.

9/7/2020 - Mennefer added a separator above the description section.

9/9/2020 - Edited down the armaments according to a new personal formula I came-up with to be more consistent across my ship designs. Decreased the armaments by approx. 300 weapon emplacements.

9/11 - I found the proper artist behind the reference picture, edited to give proper credits.
