Command and Control

The Twi'lek smiled warmly. "Thank you. It means a lot to hear you say that. You're still not allowed alcohol for a few more days though," she added sternly. "You seem to be recovering well. Another day and we can let you go...you are just upstairs anyway if anything comes up!"

Siobhan let out a theatrical sigh upon being denied alcohol, though she had expected it anway. "Yes, whatever the Doctors orders," she said with a small smile. "Can I get some magazines - Fiames of Ashira ?" Siobhan totally only read this edition for the fascinating articles about Eldorai culture and 'religious practices'. Along with those about Amazons.

"Nice to hear I can be up and test the bionics out soon, as plesant as the company is," then she frowned, looking a bit thoughtful. "Hmm. Normally by now a Sith or a vamp should be sneaking up on me." She sounded a bit incredulous at the revelation that, yes, some days proceeded entirely normal.

Doctor Osway gave her an odd look. "I don't think that sort of publication is appropriate here," she said primly. "Our security is top-notch. Just this morning we caught someone trying to sneak in wearing a doctor's outfit. She was exceptionally angry, but security escorted her out. Said her name was Anika or Ankelos or something. There was also some white haired woman yesterday too, said she had a present for you. We contacted Ms Alcori and she said not to admit her. Don't worry, you are quite safe here."

This rare example of efficiency was quite surprising, no doubt!

Siobhan sighed. Apparently her nice doctor had to be the prim and proper type. "Yeah, ok. Can I get a crossword puzzle then?" she asked rather lamely, but she was bored. She might even deign to read through official paperwork!

But the fact that security was actually working seemed to cheer her up a bit, as bizarre as that was to her. "That's reassuring. Good thing security's so thorough," she said, narrowing her eyes a bit at the mention of a white-haired woman before laying down in her bed. "I'll just rest and...not cause trouble then."

"That would be for the best," Doctor Osway said sweetly.

Little did Siobhan know that the hospital had become a veritable beacon for all sorts of people. Along with the aforesaid mentioned probable Sith Lord and white haired immortal there were any number of miscellaneous well wishers, prophets and enemies that were turned away. Poor Siobhan never knew she was so popular!

Regardless a bit later a doctor came down to see her and helped her stand and walk around the room a bit. "How are you finding moving the new hand?" he asked. "How is the eye settling in?"

Poor Siobhan would never know that she was such a magnet and that so many people wanted to meet her while she was lying vulnerable in a hospital bed. Omega Security really took its job of protecting its employees seriously.

Alas, the hospital staff also took its job of shielding its patients from sordid influences seriously, so Siobhan had not been able to study Eldorai 'religious practices' and 'rituals' or the initiation rites of Dahomey Amazons. As was well-known, although a bit of a philistine, Siobhan wanted to educate herself.

No matter soon a doctor entered and Siobhan could around a bit. A great deal of the pain had subsided, she flexed the fingers of her new bionic hand. While the response was a bit slow, it felt surprisingly light. "Pretty well, it's very...light, took ages for the old one to actually do something when it got implanted."

But then Siobhan had always imagined it had been hacked off an old training droid after it had been plundered for spare parts. "Eye's good, most of the itching's gone down. Do I have infrared now?" she queried.

"There are codes you can use to activate it. Doctor Osway will teach them to you tomorrow. I'm glad that it's working well for you."

Siobhan's educational material was the sort one needed identification to purchase, and had rather a lot more exposed skin than one expected from Priestesses. Though some had accused them of being nothing more than prostitutes, they allegedly preferred the term 'ladies of negotiable affection'.

Either way, Tegaea came down to see Siobhan later that day and gave her a big hug. "They're settling in well!" They eye was still red around it and the new eye was slightly more noticeable than the flesh one, but once the body settled in, that would become less of an issue. Her hand was already looking good as well.

Concerning the negotiable affections of the priestesses, one should always keep an open mind when dealing with alien cultures. Far too easily did people succumb to speciecist and xenophobic notions...a path at the end of which was just bloodshed and misery. Of course, according to certain persons detailed scenes of violence were perfectly family-friendly.

Regardless Siobhan still did not get to read her magazines, but on the positive side her, in Siobhan's own words, majestic lover graced the ex-Jedi with her presence, something which made Siobhan happy as well.

Siobhan returned the hug, resting her head on Tegs' strong shoulder before giving her a kiss. "Oh, yeah, they are! I got infrared now. Once I know how to turn it on," Siobhan said with a chuckle. "How've you been doing without me - missed me? Found that General officer you wanted yet?"

"Of course I've missed you," Tegaea said, giving her a kiss in return. "I've found a man who fits the bill I feel. You can meet him tomorrow, but he has experience with the Republic and other militia forces. I think he'll prove a fine choice, and also someone who can help prepare you for...well...when the time comes. His name is Xavier Guyenne, and you'll find him better than any of those Republic fuzzbags we had to deal with, I think!"

Siobhan brought up her bionic hand, which was developing quite nicely, briefly running it across Tegs' cheek. Finally she had actual skin and not plain metal. "Terrible for you to cope without me. I promise to make it up to you...with five extra fingers," she said with a grin.

She listened when Tegs filled her in about the new general. "Those fuzzbags weren't that bad! Their uselessness let us get the glory and the credits," she joked. "Guy you found sounds swell, I'll make sure to meet him tomorrow," she continued. Did that mean she actually had to wear a proper uniform?

She picked up on Tegs' phrasing about...preparing her, but did not comment on it. Which also meant not stating that she was not the person for such a task. Maybe it was due to her good mood!

"Alright, well you rest up. You can come back to work tomorrow for this meeting, but don't over exert yourself, understand?" She brushed some of Siobhan's hair from her brow. "I'm looking forward to when you're back to full health so we can put your new hand to the test." She grinned.

"Yes, ma'am. I'll be good and not go speeder racing like I'd planned," Siobhan said with exaggerated submissiveness. "You'll make sure the new hand meets expectations? Gotta make sure it can perform in action," she quipped cornily, but then Tegs would be used to her awful lines by now. At the risk of making an incredibly lame pun, there were other things Siobhan's tongue was excellent at.

Either way, the hours passed and Siobhan soon drifted into sleep. Early in the morning on the next day she rose and after a quick breakfast got dressed in the dark blue uniform, the standard for Omega soldiers with a colonel's insignia, a nurse had spread out on the bed for her. The bionic hand was developing nicely but a bit awkward to move, nonetheless Siobhan managed, with some help from the nurse to stand and get the uniform on.

She would get some tuition from Doctor Osway on how to utilise the different settings of her new eye later. The new General was scheduled to arrive soon and though she had been told to take it easy Siobhan wanted to be punctual.

Tegaea just gave her a smirk and left her to it.

When Siobhan headed upstairs she was met by Anya who led her into one of the impressive tactical planning rooms in the Omega Pyre building. Large holographic displays and maps covered the walls and the walls were surrounded by computers and processors.
As Siobhan entered Tegaea came forward to meet her. The Exarch wore a very snappy uniform in red which made her look very domineering. She returned Siobhan's salute.
"Colonel, allow me to introduce you to General Xavier Guyenne. General Guyenne has agreed to come and work with us."

The general was a tall man, clean shaven, with a military bearing and greying hair. He looked like a general, even without the uniform.
"Pleased to meet you, Colonel," he said. "The Protectorate is an impressive operation, and I'm glad to be part of things. The Exarch has been giving me an overview of the situation, but I'd like your input as well, Colonel."

Siobhan was impressed by the planning room, but her eyes were inevitably drawn to Tegaea's red uniform, which made her look so authoritative and domineering. Alas, since they had work to do Siobhan could not help her lover out of it, though she resolved that Tegs should wear it more often - she should wear more crimson in general.

For her part Siobhan generally felt awkward in uniforms. The distinguished looking man Tegs had hired looked every inch the general, he perfectly fit the picture any viewer of war holo-movies had of the profession.

"Thank you, General. Colonel Siobhan Kerrigan. Glad to have you on board and looking forward to working with you," she said formally or at least as formal as Siobhan could manage. "Omega's a great organisation, it makes me proud to see how it's grown. What areas would you like my input on?"

Hopefully she would not say anything foolish - and make Tegs look bad for promoting her!

The General eyed the notes he'd made. "Well, what I'd most like from you is a sense of what Omega Pyre is. I have the raw numbers here, but I want your feelings on the organisation, the morale, training, what the soldiers think. We're going to be working very closely together, Colonel, so I also want to get your thoughts on future directions for us, what needs improvement and what needs to be altered. I will take your views into careful consideration."
It was hard to tell what this man made of Siobhan, as he kept his thoughts and feelings hidden.

Siobhan pondered this for a short moment, then responded. "Way I see it, we're the Protectorate's quick reaction/commando force. We've kept the PMC angle - it brings in creds and it's a good training ground. Most of our boys and girls are veterans. Professional mercs, ex-bounty hunters. Gotta whip and cajole them into shape sometimes, but they more than get the job done. We should keep it a small, professional force like that, backed up by walkers, strike vehicles and Inimicas, able to strike hard and fast."
This fit her aggressive, battering ram approach, but long, drawn-out campaigns would also be a drain on resources.

"Mass recruitment would mean lowering training standards and right now we don't an enemy big enough to justify it. Until the Sith scum goes on a galactic conquest spree."

As everyone who knew Siobhan would know, she thought there was no way around that day, but it wasn't relevant at this juncture, so she focused on the here and now.

"The force's morale is high with our recent series of victories, briefly took a hit with fighting zombies on Denon. We could've used an AT-SE there, perhaps. Troops are happy with how the bolters performed, finally a gun that hits something hard," she paused a bit, allowing herself a small smile.

"If intel's correct, the Bando Gora seemed to be on fast track to become our new foe, so even with bolters we might put in more work in anti-force user training. Sergeant Martin brought us the schematics for a missile launcher that does the trick. Maybe even some basic training for selected non-forcers in basic lightsabre use."

The General considered her words carefully.
"Yes, I agree. A soldier must always consider who he is going to fight. In our case, we need quick moving, heavily armed units. Small in size, but powerful on the attack. I think you have some good points, Colonel. I trust that you will be able to provide me more information in the coming weeks."

He went to the holograph map of the galaxy. The area occupied by the Protectorate was marked in burgundy. He zoomed in on this area.
"I want us to have a number of strike forces distributed across the Protectorate. I've been in discussions to create an orbital training facility for our use. I also believe we should base one of the strike forces at Corellia, one at Eriadu, one at Naboo, and a reserve force at Fondor. This distribution means we can safely provide support wherever needed. I want you to take command of the largest force at Fondor, Colonel. That will be our ace in the hole. I understand there are plans in place for a specialist ship, but leave that aside for now."

"You'll get a report on it," Siobhan responded. Damn. That meant even more paperwork. She had the distinct impression that she would be missing another episode of Game of Stars again.

She joined him at the holographic galaxy map. Omega was steadily expanding towards the south, soon their borders would reach Naboo, Eriadu and Sullust. The credits garnered from a controlling interest in pod racing and fuel trade on Malastare was only fuelling the drive to expansion, not to mention the trade with Thyferran bacta. Some political analysts were making bets about whether Omega would extend its 'protection' to Hutt space, cleansing Nar Shaddaa of the criminals, slavers and parasites. Others warned of the dangers of something they called 'imperial overstretch'.

She nodded at General Guyenne's strategic planning, it made sense to her. Ensuring mobility was key. "I'll gladly take command. Politicals are working on getting Naboo and Eriadu on side. Got rumours of Bando Gora raiding parties a couple parsecs away from Naboo. Eriadu's military is pretty tough, good backup, if it joins us. Local overlord's a power-hungry prick though. MICO thinks he's arming to expand into Sullust and block us," she shrugged at that. "The Lady Protector's sent an emissary to discuss terms."

At this stage Siobhan could not know to what a fiery end their ambassador would come. But then their job was to make sure that the blade of Omega was sharp and ready to be unsheathed when Tegs and Cira ordered it.

The General nodded. "This sounds reasonable, Colonel. The Exarch says you have just had surgery to repair your eye and hand. My congratulations and my best wishes for your recovery. I've been fortunate I guess not to need it so far, but I am glad that the medical technology of this era is capable of helping us all."
He extended his hand. "Pleased to meet you, Colonel. I will be holding a briefing in four days with all my subordinates to put plans into effect regarding a reorganisation of matters. My aide will send you the information."

"Thank you, General. Recovery's been pretty well," she accepted the hand and shook it. The General had a firm grip on him. "Likewise, General. You'll get a report on matters at the briefing."

Adjusting to the formality would take some getting used to, but all in all it had gone well. No blustering about rank, no superior than thou attitude, just plain and straightforward business. Based on her initial impression she could work with him.
