Description: A basic shield designed to take punishment that would normally penetrate or destroy most basic combat armor. The Combat Shield is cheep and easy to mass-produce as it's basically press-formed duranium with an ablative coating to help it resist electrical and other energy based attacks along with insulated grips. When carried standing upright, the body of the shield should cover up to the user's shoulder down to about half the way down their shin. Best protection is achieved when the body is slightly angled to the side and partially crouched allowing for easy movement and ducking the head down fully.

The curved surface deflects physical and melee attacks away from the body and the lower prongs can make a nasty jabbing weapon when sharpened (which they often are) or can allow the shield to be embedded in the ground while the upper provide some protection from the sides to someone peaking over the top. While cut-outs on either side can provide an easy place to stabilize a two-handed weapon, the wielder's off hand is taken up by managing the shield and using anything other than a single-handed gun quickly gets unwieldy when it becomes time to reload or do anything other than stand there (like running). Mag-clips on the shield's inner surface help alleviate this however and can be fitted for a variety of magazine sizes.

In combat these shields allow troops to safely move up under fire or to create their own light cover. A shield wall can advance up a contested corridor and provide shelter to those following or allow its wielder to move safely around a corner. It also offers protection superior to normal armor against area attacks such as sonic or scatter guns as the solid sheeting lacks joints that these weapons can take advantage of and against flamethrowers it holds the burning fuel away from the body (a smart flamer will try to cast their fire around, under, or bounce their flame off a ceiling to at least force a retreat).
