This thread will stand as the centralized location for all rules and regulations pertaining to the Codex, use of the Codex, and its various sections thereof and will be kept up to date as rules and regulations evolve and change over time. If you have questions about these rules or need them further explained, please post a topic in the main Codex Discussion or PM either the Codex Admin or RPJs.

Codex & Factory Standardized Rules
Taken from the main Factory/Codex Rules page.

1. Codex & Factory submissions may only be introduced into role-play threads whose start date begins after the submission's approval date.

2. There is a cap of three active or pending submissions permitted in each of the sub forums in the Codex or Factory per Writer.

3. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

4. The entire template must be used in your submission. If you have nothing to add for a certain section, simply put ‘N/A’

5. Be aware that some items and materials are restricted or banned and cannot be used freely. Be sure to consult the list before making a submission.

6. Do not bump your submissions.

7. All submissions need to conform to the general idea of Star Wars. No Gundam Wings, no Transformers, no furries.

8. All measurements in all submissions must be in metric.

9. At any point during the approval process for your submission you may apply for a Second Chance.

10. Do not post in other people’s submissions. Consult a judge if you have concerns.

11. No member may "claim" an image unless they created it themselves.

12. If the owner of the image asks you to take it down, please do so.

13. Development threads can have any topic prefix with the exception of Flagship development which must follow a specific template and use the 'Flagship' topic prefix.

14. Intentionally breaking these rules or attempting to mislead Judges will incur a 30 day zero tolerance ban from the Factory or Codex.

Codex Standardized Rules

Pre-Codex [Here]
1. The Pre-Codex is for WIP submissions only. Do not comment on other members' submissions, do not tag Codex Judges for feedback. Questions about your WIP submissions may be asked in the Codex Discussion forum.

2. Pre-Codex WIP submissions have a 2 week limit. Submissions that exceed this limit will be archived but can be pulled back out from archives when the submitter is ready to begin working on them again.

3. When your WIP submission is complete and ready for Judgement, @mention the Codex Admin or Codex RPJ in a reply to the submission to have it moved to the proper section.

General Submission Guidelines
1. Please keep your submissions neat and easy to read. Stylized formatting is allowed so long as it does not impede a Judge's ability to read the submission. Submissions with excessive spelling, grammatical, or formatting errors may be placed in the Pre-Codex for edits.

2. All images used in submissions should be properly sourced with links to the original image, the name of the artist and the title of the artwork. For more information on how to properly source your images please read here.

3. All non-Basic submission titles should have its Basic translation in parentheses beside it. I.E. Echoy'lii Shuk'orok (Echoy'lan Crushgaunts) or Aliit'Verd Euk'gar'gam (Clan Verd Mando Steel Armor)

4. Pertinent companies, species, and planets referenced in Codex submissions should be hyperlinked to their submission or canonical article for ease of reference.

5. All relevant threads that are hyperlinked in submissions must be cited as the full thread title, not an abbreviation.

6. Members should familiarize themselves with the Restricted Materials and Banned Items lists. Restricted Materials [referred to as "RM"] require specific IC challenges/missions to obtain and use within submissions.

7. Restricted Materials are no longer allowed to be added as a resource/export for new custom planets except in the case of a Staff sanctioned challenge/contest reward or with explicit permission from Staff.

8. Submissions based on canon subjects such as planets, locations, species, etc., should adhere to the theme and setting of the original canon subject in question and contain a solid intent/reasoning for submitting to Codex.

9. Earth crossovers should be avoided as part of the subject matter in Codex submissions and are grounds for edits or denial. If you are unsure what constitutes as "crossover" please ask the Codex staff for clarification.

Submission Modifications [Here]
1. All submission modifications must be posted by the same account/author of the original submission in question.

2. Submission modifications posted by members other than the original submission author MUST have explicit permission by the original submission author to make modifications. This can be provided by a post or PM by/from the original author.

3. You may only make modifications to one submission at a time, per request.

Second Chance [Here]
1. If your submission has been denied and you feel it has been done so unfairly you may request a second chance on the submission in question by posting a link to the denied submission and your case for why it should be looked into again.

2. Submissions pulled for Second Chance will be given a new Judge. You may not request a specific Judge.

3. At any time during an active original judgement a submitter may request a second chance for a different Judge if they feel they have reasonable evidence of Judge bias or unfair judgement.

4. Submissions that are denied on Second Chance are final denials and may not be submitted again.

Species Creation Rules
Chaos Custom Species Index

1. Extra-galactic species may not be submitted to the Codex per the Banned Items list.

2. All species submissions must conform to the theme and setting of Star Wars.

3. Species possessing extreme/unique powers, abilities, or attributes will require thorough balancing of strengths and weaknesses and solid intent and reasoning for them.

4. Completely Force sensitive/dead species may not be submitted except in the case of a Staff sanctioned challenge/contest reward or with explicit permission from Staff.

Planet Creation Rules
Chaos Galaxy Map | Map Update Thread | Chaos Galaxy Map Index

1. Custom planets may only be added to map hexes containing 2 or less planets (we allow a maximum of 3 planets per hex) using the Map Update Thread.

2. Planets requesting to be added to a hex with 3 or more planets already occupying that hex will be asked to move or be denied. Previously existing entries are grandfathered in.

3. Players may add planets to previously existing systems, ie. any planet/system already on the map.

4. Extra-galactic planets may not be submitted to the Codex per the Banned Items list.

5. Canon planets submitted to Codex must adhere to the general setting of the original planet and may not contradict Star Wars canon history. Canon planets with significant changes will require substantial reasoning and intent.

6. Restricted Materials (including mineable types: beskar, stygium, phrik, cortosis, void stone, nykkalt) may not be added as a resource/export for new custom planets except in the case of a Staff sanctioned challenge/contest reward or with explicit permission from Staff. For purposes of planet creation only, kyber crystals are considered a Restricted Material.

7. Members wishing to submit a Force Nexus to their planet must undertake the Force Nexus mission on the Restricted Materials list. Force Nexus Location submissions must have adequate explanation of the Nexus effects and reasonable OOC intent. Completing the mission does not guarantee your Nexus will be approved if the intent or desctiption is lacking.
Size: (the size will determine the amount of exposition expected on the effects of the Nexus and how strongly the intent will be weighed for judgement.)
  • Area - A small location on a world much like the dark grove or oasis that can be destroyed by people.
  • Location - An area that can be renewed, can be large and powerful. (example is Valley of the Jedi, The Wellspring)
  • Planet - The effect of the Nexus can be experienced across the entire planet.

Location Creation Rules

1. Space Station Locations submitted to the Codex must use an approved Factory Station submission or a canon non-combat space station, without significant technical modification.

2. Starship Loctions submitted to the Codex must use an approved Factory Starship submission or a canon starship model, without significant technical modification.

3. Canon locations submitted to Codex must adhere to the general setting of the original location and may not contradict Star Wars canon history. Canon locations with significant changes will require substantial reasoning and explanation of intent.

4. Restricted Material mines may only be created on planets that are either a known canon location or a Codex approved submission with the specified material and are listed in the Restricted Materials thread as a mine-able material [stygium, beskar, phrik, cortosis, void stone].

5. Members wishing to submit a Force Nexus location must undertake the Force Nexus mission on the Restricted Materials list. Force Nexus Location submissions must have adequate explanation of the Nexus effects and reasonable OOC intent. Completing the mission does not guarantee your Nexus will be approved if the intent or desctiption is lacking.
Size: (choose one of the following. The size will determine the amount of exposition expected on the effects of the Nexus and how strongly the intent will be weighed for judgement.)
  • Area - A small area on a world much like the dark grove or oasis that can be destroyed by people.
  • Location - An area that can be renewed, can be large and powerful. (example is Valley of the Jedi, The Wellspring)

NPC Creation Rules

1. NPCs claiming the following may require further exposition, solid intent, and balancing of strengths/weaknesses at the discretion of the Judge: sensitive information/knowledge; unusual, rare, Master ranked or excessive powers; large amounts of resources such as military, technology, broad-spanning businesses, excessive wealth, or a wide spread area of influence.

2. Droid NPCs submitted to the Codex must use an approved Factory Droid Technology submission or a canon droid model, without significant technical modification.

3. Artificial Intelligence NPCs submitted to the Codex must use an approved Factory AI Technology submission or a canon AI model, without significant technical modification.

4. "Groups" of individual NPCs may be created within a single submission with 5 individuals being the maximum allowable. This can be used for families, ship crews, gangs, etc where the submitter wishes to flesh-out the individual characters more than what you would find in the "Unit" template.
