The reach of the Empire grew steadily despite the setbacks it suffered. Like all nations there were times of decline, but what mattered was how to evolve from said dilemma. The Empire had grown and evolved plenty, the era of Tavlar's reign was hardly recognizable with the changes of hierarchy and the political climate surrounding the Empire. What remained of Tavlar's legacy were the monuments erected for him and notable Imperial heroes, and the state of mind few shared from the Imperator's ideology.

Would the Imperator approve forced labor and meddle it with dealings with mining corporations?

A grey argument to have, but no one knew the answer besides the man who was buried six feet under with only bones remaining from his corpse.

What was it all to Marcad? Nothing, just taking orders from his employer and getting compensated from it.

There were different tribes on Ingo, there was no central planetary government on this backwater world. It was survival of the fittest on this harsh world with little resources for everyone. It was the ideal scenario for the Empire and their beneficiary partners; side with a specific group and conquer the rest. It was not hard when COMPNOR agents came into play, spreading the seeds of influence on their targets and wrought greed into them. Seeing the advantages to become a puppet. No more hardships; they would have the power to rule the many and live lavishly, so long as they bent the knee to the Empire.

Marcad and a small detachment of Imperial Sandtroopers were assigned to raiding a settlement that was within their crosshairs, one of many raids designed in this grand campaign of conquest over Ingo.

"I assume our orders are similar, yet different?"

His orders came from his employer, not from the Empire. No doubt there would be some heated differences between the mercenaries and the Imperials.

It felt like something of a wildcard at times.

There was no doubt that those around her, herself included, would have preferred to work without the assistance of mercenaries. It was beyond their command, however, and no one would dare challenge it, instead opting for petty complaints and snide remarks among themselves when the opportunity arose.

It had been decided on their behalf that the endeavour would be mutually beneficial and who were they to question the Empire in which they ought to trust. She was inclined to agree with the benefit of mercenaries, despite the lack of cohesion between the contrasting groups of soldiers. They shared a goal and that ought to be enough for a successful mission, though with differing motives, they would see how it would pan out...

"You could say that." She replied to the unfamiliar voice, turning to face him, her helmet resting against her hip. He didn't exactly have the appearance of the well-disciplined soldiers that she was used to but then rarely did she have the serious demeanour that she was supposed to have.

She didn't care about the grand scale of the mission they were undertaking. They had been given orders and that was as far as her line of thought went. She didn't stress too much about seeing the wood for the trees, content with being a cog in the Empire's regime.

"As long as you don't do anything stupid, this should go smoothly." She told him, a jab that might have otherwise sounded irritable but the corners of her lips curving into a smile suggested otherwise.

"As long as you don't do anything stupid, this should go smoothly."

He raised both eyebrows at her quip, surprised to see an Imperial with some sense of humor. Almost refreshing to see, but there was still spite in Marcad with how much the Stormtroopers were edging to cross the established line between them. Didn’t help the mercenaries also did their own shenanigans.

“And you make sure you didn’t get in our way. We don’t get paid on overtime, so make sure you do your job right.”

Firing back with his own retort. He could’ve established a mutual relationship to ease this operation, but pride was the worst sin to suffer from out of all.

“So,” returning back to the mission at hand, “this should be very simple. My suggestion is to just blitz them. Casualties should be low and they probably won’t put up much of a fight.” A blue hologram appeared from the table, a map detailing the geography picked up from reconnaissance. Throughout all of it was an inhabited settlement.

“Hit em hard, no point in wasting any time for something so simple.”
