  • Basic combat first aid programming.
  • Can assist in hyperspace and astro-navigational plotting and management.
  • Built-in wrist blaster and personal energy shields, capable of resisting both most energy beams and projectiles.
  • Heuristic programming, improved processing, and expanded memory banks allow for exceptional intelligence.
  • Onboard encrypted hyperwave transceiver and communications suite, as well as reduced-range sensor suite, taken from R3-series Astromech.
STRENGTHS:
  • Expert piloting programming allows Clank to operate most any vehicle type, ranging from speeder bikes to starfighters, even light to medium freighters, small transports, and light corvettes on par with some of the finest organic pilots in the galaxy, and more, Clanker can make repairs and modifications to those same vehicles (and other equipment).
  • Improved combat programming enables Clanker to operate most small-arms and personal munitions with greater proficiency than most battle droids were capable of using, including marksmanship and targeting sub-routines, making him a formidable foe when paired with his improved durability, armor, and shielding.
  • Clank is capable of performing most basic executive assistant duties, including scheduling, general administrative functions, even consult on law, accounting, and business (albeit much of this database is now out-of-date).
  • Moderate slicing ability provides Clank the ability to penetrate basic-level computers, systems, and security devices.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Clank’s personal energy shields fail to work with the same durability and longevity as the Droideka it was taken from, and if overwhelmed, leaves the droid considerably more vulnerable to damage, able to take only a few direct, powerful hits before becoming damaged. Especially vulnerable is the backpack element found in the droid’s design.
  • Clanker can make repairs and modifications to various starships and vehicles, as well as other pieces of equipment and even other droids, but those repairs and modifications can be less conventional, often ignoring protocols (including safety) and cutting corners, making for potential vulnerabilities to malfunctioning, poor performance, and safety.
  • Clanker’s personality and moral programming are ‘sketchy’ to say the least, causing him to be sometimes unpredictable, reckless, scatterbrained, and almost always unpleasant. As such, his behaviors can be risky to himself and others, daring to the point of irresponsibly audacious, even criminal or willfully disobedient, all of which can prove disastrous depending on where, when, and how Clank decides to ‘do his own thing.’
  • Clank’s sensors lack the range of the R3-series they were scavenged from, able to reach only about 300m or so at their optimal levels, and even less so when faced with heavy interference, jamming, or sensor-blocking materials.
  • Clank’s slicing ability is limited to general and low-security systems only, so while it is entirely feasible for him to slice into a basic database, computer, or past a basic-level lock, he is no expert slicer or thief and will be useless against more advanced security and encryption programming.
DESCRIPTION:
starwars+trade+federation+battle+droid3.png

One thing about fighting in the Clone Wars, there was always plenty of wrecked droids lying about. The Separatist forces relied heavily on droid warriors as the bulk of their military machine, and in due course, many of these droids fell to the superior skills and ferocity of the Grand Army of the Republic. A fact which Corius sought to capitalize on, curious to see if he might build one of his own, culling parts and systems from a variety of models which were cobbled together to the very best of his abilities to create “Clanker”, or just “Clank” as he would become known.

“Sir, um, all due respect but we’re supposed to take them apart, not put them together.”
“Thank you for the update. Dismissed.”
~ Unidentified 41[SUP]st[/SUP] Scout Battalion Trooper and Corius Harckon.

Beginning with a stripped-down Heavy Combat Droid, Corius began to construct his own. Taking the brain of a Super Tactical Droid commander, he modified it to fit into the slightly more robust head of the base model. Furthermore, he added the sophisticated sensors and expanded memory banks salvaged from an R3-series Astromech Droid, and then sought to integrate the programming of several types of droids. It was in this step that Corius discovered he was much better with hardware than software, and the resulting personality quirks of his jury-rigged droid were…odd…even for Separatist droids.

Acerbic and given to excessive commentary, infrequent but unpredictable short-term memory loss, stuttered and high-pitched vocalizations, frequently scolding organics for their perceived [by him] weaknesses, acting independently, frequently improvising and often with disregard to safety or seemingly logical courses of action, and refusing to obey minor orders he felt silly or impractical, with occasional fits of cynicism. In short, Clank was a considerable pain in the rear shields! Yet, he was truly quite capable – in spite of Corius’ shortcomings as a Droidsmith – and in many ways superior to other droids.

“As Droidsmiths go, Sir, you are quite possibly the very worst one ever.”
~ Unidentified 41[SUP]st[/SUP] Scout Battalion Trooper.

The droid used enhanced strength and agility components, taken from BX-series Commando Droids and Engineer Battle Droids, enabling him to impressively surpass the conventional athleticism, speed, and maneuverability of many of the droid models used in his design. Additionally, Clank is a much superior marksman and capable of advanced tactical reasoning, even of adapting and overcoming unusual or unorthodox situations or enemy strategies. His piloting ability was on par with some of the finest droid pilots ever built, able to deftly pilot many types of terrestrial vehicles, airspeeders, starfighters, and even smaller-sized freighters and light corvettes as well or even better than most organic pilots. He was even able to plot and store up to three sets of astro-navigational routes, including hyperspace navigation. The integration of a Tranlang III and basic protocol programming allowed him to operate in thousands of languages, acting as an interpreter and ably interacting with organics are various socio-cultural strata, even showing some aptitude for executive assistant functions such as consulting on law, business, organizational, or other similar areas. Clank could also make many rudimentary repairs and perform general maintenance to starships, vehicles, and other equipment, though due to his unconventional logic and reasoning his ‘repairs’ and ‘upgrades’ were often dubious, to say the least. Finally, Corius made his patchwork partner to be considerably more resilient to injury and damage than many of the models used in the design, giving Clank a durable and tough physicality.

However, being smart-mouthed and stubborn-minded were not Clank’s only flaws. His sensors only worked at a fraction of the range of an actual R3-series droid, limited to just only about 305m. His disrupted safety protocols allowed him to make actions and decisions which frequently put organics in danger, even Corius and the Clone Troopers they fought beside. Additionally, a faulty moral programming sub-routine has given Clank a ‘criminal’ streak, marked by avarice, scheming, and casual disregard for rules, regulations, authority and basic law and order. Clank is sturdy and tough, however the shield generator culled from a Droideka never quite worked the way it did before on the previous droid. Clank’s shields can’t take the same kind of punishment, and if overwhelmed, his body can’t take much more. A powerful-enough hit to the retrofit backpack which contains much of his augmented memory, communications, and auxiliary systems control, which can result in degraded performance, even disabling his onboard computers or further scrambling the droid’s mental faculties.

Despite the fears of the Clone Troopers with whom he served, Clanker is loyal and capable, and more than once, the droid pulled him out of a bad situation!

“Excellent Sir, a droid that is not only capable of killing us, but he’ll call us names, pick our pockets, hotwire our ship, and sell our weapons for unmarked credits. Terrific, this war’s all but over. I’ll inform Coruscant and the Chancellor immediately!”
