Manoeuvrability Rating: 20
Speed Rating: 20
Hyperdrive Class: N/A

Strengths:
  • Heavy Weaponry. With a mix of long and standard range weapons, the Citadel is capable of keeping up a heavy barrage at enemy coming from any direction. It can take on almost any ship up to its own size quite handily.
  • Strong Defences. Without an engine like a warship, more power can be diverted to shields. Also, the hull is specially reinforced to prevent damage meaning only the strongest salvos get through.
  • Docking Capacity. Able to dock and repair four capital ships at once, the Citadel forms a strong base of operations.
Weaknesses:
  • Immobile. Although not technically immobile, it is in geosynchronous orbit and cannot move out of the way of incoming fire or attacks, and cannot move closer to the enemy to engage.
  • Requires Support. Though armed with a good mix of weapons, the Citadel requires support, and cannot take on a fleet or even a single Star Destroyer without aid. Alone it will be overwhelmed, especially against a strong enemy.
  • Small Hanger Count. To make room for the weapons and defences, only 3 squadrons of fighters are based on the Citadel, mainly to defend the station.

Description:
With the Coalition expanding to fill areas abandoned by the Republic, Mandalorians and Sith, these frontier worlds needed defences.
No such orbital defence station existed in the Coalition, so Admiral Gould commissioned one which would serve as a bulwark for frontier worlds. The first of these stations was at Boz Pity, but more would come in time, but the number was never expected to be high.

The Citadel is well armed with batteries of heavy, long-range and regular turbo and ion cannons. Defensively it boasts heavy shielding and a hull modelled on the Barsen’Thor. The greatest strength of stations is that they do not have engines blocking a full quarter of their fire arc, so these weapons almost all have an uninterrupted fire arc.
On board the ship is prepared to resist boarders, with several hundred troops stationed along with ray shields and heavy blast doors.

Though good at resisting raiders, the Citadel lacks the weaponry to take on a full Star Destroyer, and though it has heavy long-ranged weapons, it is unable to move to engage a distant target. The Citadel can therefore defend the planet, but cannot do so alone; it needs support from attack craft, capital ships and escorts to work best.

The Citadel is well rounded in armament, being strong in defence guns and enough capital guns to see off most enemies up to its own size. One curious adaptation of these weapons is the use of heavy warhead clusters on each of the four cardinal points. These are arranged in such a way that 3 of the four can always fire on a single target. They are also placed on the extremities so that any risk of detonation damaging the hull is greatly reduced.

Development Thread: Here. All posts by Elpsis Kallikora, Tempest and Abaigeal E’ron. 28 total.
Intent: To create a powerful defensive station to protect the frontiers of the Coalition. These stations will be placed over key systems to serve as a nexus for defending the planet. Though strong they cannot stand up to a full fleet attack by Star Destroyers, but they can easily repulse most raiders and smaller threats and provide vital support in fleet actions.

[member="Kyrana Gould"], this looks pretty good from a conceptual standpoint.

In terms of statistics, however, I'm a bit wary of approving something that has the firepower of a balanced star destroyer in something that's less than 60% of its size via the traditional meter length count. I think the station would probably have the volume of that same ship...but again, we typically measure things by length rather than volume for simplicity's sake for fleet building purposes.

That being said, I do think that cutting down the fighter capacity and its immobility helps balance this a bit though.

I'd like to see the length of this increased to 1300 meters in diameter.

Alternatively, if each of these stations is going to be established by a Codex entry, I'll be ready to stamp this as is with that said caveat being explicitly listed in the description.
