  • Allows the downloading of data, skills and techniques.

  • “I know karate”: The implant allows the downloading of skills packages to the user, allowing them to gain access to a variety of skills and knowledge they might not normally have access to.

  • “Show me”: The downloaded knowledge is purely theoretical, your body lacks the muscle memory to correctly utilise it, and you lack the experience to make the best use of it. You might download surgical techniques but knowing the best way to utilise them comes with experience which you lack.
  • Corrupted Data: The data which is downloaded is downloaded straight into the neural implant, into a direct link with your mind. Corrupted or incorrect data is an annoyance, but data that contains a virus? It’s an easy way to get a virus into someone’s head, to slip past all their defences.

The advanced combat implant was an older cybernetic implant which had been used in the past to allow it’s users to access “weapon specifications, and advanced usage techniques for all known weaponry in the Republic and associated allies.” (wookie) A very useful skill for any military combatant in battle, but the engineer in John couldn’t help but wonder why it needed to be limited to only combat techniques.
There was no reason for the man to limit the data that could be downloaded to purely military techniques. The ability to access knowledge could be a game-changer in a wide variety of situations. If someone was injured, the ability to download the first aid knowledge and techniques that could help them could save lives. If your speeder broke down, the ability to download basic mechanics techniques and knowledge would allow someone to diagnose their vehicle, and hopefully get it moving for long enough to get to a professional garage.
The Chiron wasn’t meant to allow you to replace a specialist, a proper mechanic had experience that no amount of book knowledge could replace, a surgeon had the experience to make life and death decisions in an instant. The Chiron could never replace that experience, but what it could do is allow it’s user to become a jack of all trades, able to do a little bit of everything.
