"What do you know about godhood, you overgrown manchild?" she snapped. "You probably still live with your parents."

His quibbling over servant and worshiper annoyed her. She hardly cared for the difference, only that he was subjugated... or consumed. The latter option was becoming more appealing.

Reaching out with the Force, she began to drain the life out of him.

Head tilted back, Brandyn felt his very essence start to be sapped. Arcs of energy tapped into him, siphoning to the dark sider. He tried to speak. But nothing came out, his muscles taut and unmoving.

"There he is...target the creature," said the leader of the unit of guards dispatched to Brandyn's location. He pulled the binocs from his eyes.

"But sir...we could hit the Jedi."

"That'll be the last of his worries in a few moments, Talec, now fire!"

Half a second later, the speeder unleashed a volley of blaster fire, starting a couple of dozen meters in front of the Jedi and the monster. Their forward progress would create the strafing run that was necessary.

Ha! She had him now!

Rhi basked in the power flowing from Brandyn, savoring it as she fed off his energy. She would have drained him dry, no doubt, had those meddling soldiers not arrived to stop her. Heavy blaster fire rained down on her position, scorching the trees and earth. Several shots struck Rhi herself, singeing her wings and burning her arm.

“Ah!” she cried, retreating to get away from the bolts. There were simply too many of them for her to deal with.

Diving deeper into the forest, she fled, shouting curses and insults over her shoulder. It looked like she’d have to find her prey elsewhere tonight.

The speeder landed before the collapsed Sal-Soren. A few of the guards ran beyond him, a few steps into the woods to form a small perimeter. Other guards approached the fallen Padawan and began triage.

"Padawan Sal-Soren. Do you hear me?"

Brandyn stirred, eyes opening, body leaden with tiredness. "There is...a...dark side...being...on the planet...it must be stopped..."

"We will alert patrols."

"...if you have to...kill it."

"Understood."

"And...can you get me some breadsticks?"
