Character Fitness

Most characters here are at their physical peak and are fighting machines. What do your characters do to stay at this elite level? Do you incorporate any of this into your writing, or is it mostly head canon or behind the scenes?

For Pal, I actually included in the factory submission for his ship that he has workout equipment on board. I have also written multiple threads with Jedi, Mandalorian, and military characters training him in hand to hand combat. I view him as a physical character that runs, lifts, and trains his fighting skills every day, including on his ship when hauling illegal cargo through hyperspace. I pull from my limited jiu jitsu and wrestling training when writing out some of his more physical fights.

For Hwo Hwo I have frequently written about his hiking and yoga. When I had time for Padawans, I integrated a lot of trail running on Naboo into Hwo’s training of them. I imagine him doing a ton of trail running and calisthenics to stay in prime condition.

I can't say I've put too much thought into it, given that everyone's characters just seem to be at peak superhero fitness by default, but now you've got me thinking about it. Ive just started writing Daro, who I think would definitely have a training regimen as a stormtrooper. Lowkey tempted to write what an Imperial gym is like.

I’m OCD about working out in real life. It drives me crazy when I watch movies or shows where characters have muscles and six packs but are lazy alcoholics. That just ain’t how it works.

As an Alcoholic Droid I Lord Mettallum can get away with being lazy and have zero percent fat while being able to lift trucks with ease.

So true man, and I can defintely see it working in writing for an NFU in a world of Jedi and Sith, kinda like how you always see Batman working out so he can keep up with the Justice League

I've referenced the 5am roadwork a handful of times, thrown in some shadowboxing and striking technique across a few threads and a blog. Wrote one weightlifting sesh with Naamino Zuukamano Naamino Zuukamano a while back. Tried writing BJJ with him twice early on, but he just ended up another striker. Most of it was at the Korrban academy. One of those threads has a short meal prep bit. Yeah, he's totally got a Garmin tracking everything like a nerd.

The nice Vanagor died, now you get me.
Michael Angellus is 18 and in reasonable shape, being girl crazy burns calories

Omega Squad are Special Forces Operators, they have to train constantly,

Same for Connel, who didn’t startle out this way, but tge whole niche just FIT.

Halpern, Arcann and Thexann are "tough old guys" but not elite shape or fighting machines(maybe ba k in the day)

I have written Pal’s training threads with that mindset. I have him encountering these crazy powerful force users here at Chaos. I need something to establish his bonafides when I write him fighting them, especially as a bounty hunter trying to bring in FUs.

Maintaining a sense of realism in how my characters maintain themselves and their skills is fun for me!

As Lys stated above, he and Naami have had dedicated training together. Same with ruck marches and gym time shared with Haro Aven Haro Aven , as well as sparring with Varin Mortifer Varin Mortifer . The Badawans have had a fair few training montages actually.

Naami is also often eating in scenes or thinking about his next meal. As a zabrak, who have denser skeletons and muscles than a lot of other species, his caloric needs are much higher than the average guy.

Not only do I find the realism of training and maintaining IC fun and immersive, I love the opportunities it presents for character growth.

Varin has some more specific training sessions. But usually its form practices with Ignati (an old entity stuck inside Varin's body) as well as force training with this entity. He's had sparring sessions with Naamino Zuukamano Naamino Zuukamano and Lysander von Ascania Lysander von Ascania also running saber drills with his master Revna Marr Revna Marr . Other than that he usually meditates in an Ashlan Jedi temple ruin that he is slowly corrupting, or he meditates outside. Since the last time he meditated inside a whole building had to be evacuated because the fire alarms went off. His meal choices are usually one very large meal a day, to him eating is a bit of a distraction. He loves to study ancient techniques and learn new abilities all the time from texts and holocrons. Usually though The Badawans like to keep him on his toes with wacky adventures. Most of the training stuff is head cannon though.

One of the most common training things all my characters do is Dance to teach and practice foot work and rhythm. When I had apprentices early on in my writing endeavors it was also often the first thing I suggested to new students.

Since my characters often vary wildly in combat they all train a little different other then in that one aspect.

Tamsins training is a lot more mental conditioning then physical given her size. But the physical condition she under go is often speed and cardio based to out pace and out last her opponents.

people who don't work out heavily IRL having body archetypes which would not fit their characters needs or actual physical capabilities is kinda funny to me ngl. yes, I know, the force blah blah blah. But physicality has always been a thing in Star Wars and the hand-wavium of "the force just makes him stronger" is bad writing. Jace Malcolm beat the snot out of dorky Sith losers in masks and edgy hot topic capes by simply tearing through them. Dude was literally built different.

Anyways, Fenn is leaner and less bulky than his dad, Preliat. More calisthenics and more focused on explosive energy. Nej is built like a boxer, and he uses that in fights frequently.

Wedge is a skinnier guy. Pilots tend to be leaner and thinner, lots of cardio.

Jedi are very disciplined and workout every day. Probably built like athletes.
