So, most of you all know that I was a transfer from another site that shall not be named (or maybe you dont? well now you do). There was a lot of things we did wrong but one thing I think we did right was this concept of an annual award event (at least I enjoyed it). So every year, around September, the general populace is given the opportunity to nominate an individual (or group of people) for a certain category. Maybe it's best Sith, best Jedi, best Dark Jedi. Maybe the category is best romance/couple, maybe it's something like best/most epic role play. The sky is really the limit so I wont go on. So, after about two weeks, a poll thread for each category is completed and say the top 5 nominated individuals are selected for contention of said award. Over the course of a selected time frame, said nominated individual (or group) can send in up to a certain number of posts for the staff to judge, for that specific award. Once all the awards are discerned, we have a massive jamboree, which is largely OOC for the purpose of just having fun, and have a large ceremony for the purposes of presenting the award. Each person who wins gets some sort of tag or something cool like "Best Romance 2015."
Now, I'll start the suggestion with some criticisms.
Now, I'll start the suggestion with some criticisms.
- Well, it's going to be biased. Popular people are gonna be nominated. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. I think everyone on the site has the capacity to look beyond likes and post numbers to discern really good quality stuff. Either way, the staff are more than capable of looking past popularity to discern quality of the writing.
- Fresher stuff is more likely to be nominated. Especially in the case of a category like Best Invasion (could that work here, I dunno). I'm not convinced this is the case, as I don't think the site as a whole is so myopic to look past really epic writing. But, if it happens, it reflects the quality of the writers involved and not necessarily the event, which I think is still an adequate means of discerning whether someone (or a group of people) are worthy of award.
- It's time consuming for the staff and an extra responsibility. I have no defense for this, so...yeah.
