Feng laughed at the Chancellor's remarks. She hadn't expected the High Republic Chancellor to be this independent and funny, though she supposed judging by Ayumi she should have known better.

"I quite like the sound of that; Captain Feng Privateer! Avaast ye scoundrel, time to walk the plank!"
Feng grinned and laughed as she splashed about.

"Good I'm glad we won't be planning on entering into any major confrontations. I feel as bodyguard it would be remiss of my duties to allow my charge to head straight long into a fire fight." Feng paused "Come to think of it I think I'd be remiss as your girlfriend as well. After all what kind of girlfriend allows her partner to go into dangerous situations she's not prepared for."

"Don't worry Verity I requisitioned an underwater lightsaber specifically for this mission. I should be able to defend us from any critters that come nosing about."
Feng said this with a certain amount of false confidence, she had never actually engaged in aquatic combat before, but then how hard could it be?

Aiden looked ahead, at what was obstructing their path, and he could help but smirk. And at one point a small laugh escaped him. He looked over towards RG and the co-pilot as they exchanged words back and forth. Aiden took a small steop forward, not towards them, but to get a better view of the creatures. The Jedi Knight's force aura reached out, sensing them, what was going on. Nothing crazy important, he didn't sense any sort of hesitation or fear. Just nerfs, doing what they did.

"I'm going to take a closer look. I agree with Regal, there is no rush. Yet I don't fancy sitting up here just waiting." Aiden opted to remove himself from the vessel, leaping down and hitting the ground with a soft landing.

He took a deep steady breath, placed his hands behind his back and he began to walk forward. They were still a ways ahead.

A walk wouldn't hurt anyone.

The Jedi wanted to go have a look. Sounds like fun, after all Regal had never been that close to one Nerf, let alone a herd of them. It would be a nice change of pace from the usual sitting and watching.

Wait up. I’ll go with you.

Taking his rifle from the weapons closet and his helmet, Regal nodded to the pilots and went to make way for the hatch.

“Is all of this really necessary, sir?”

Regal just grinned. Maybe not, but I’d rather get admonished for something like this than for running them over.

“That’s fair…”

“... this is still stupid.” The co-pilot looked back, clearly not liking the command decision.

Noted

Jumping down from the hatch, Regal looked around and jogged up to Porte. Alright, what do we need? Regal surveyed the area, ensuring the route was safe and the perimeter was clear. Porte pointed out the key locations for patrol, and they coordinated their approach. Despite the co-pilot's skepticism, the mission proceeded smoothly, blending caution with the occasional humor of handling nervous Nerf herders.

MISSION SUMMARY
Unit:
17th Column Forward Group
Vehicle Designation: Heavy Walker "Crownbreaker"
Reporting Officer: RG-11 "Regal"
Attached Personnel: Jedi Knight Aiden Porte
Mission Status: Halt Maintained / External Inspection Conducted / Wildlife Unharmed

Following the emergency halt ordered to avoid disturbing a nerf herd and its calves, Jedi Knight Aiden Porte requested permission to conduct a closer inspection of the area. Request was approved, with the understanding that any movement outside the walker would be treated as a field action, regardless of the apparent lack of hostile contact.

RG-11 accompanied Knight Porte personally, equipping standard field armor, helmet, and rifle before exiting "Crownbreaker." The decision was questioned by bridge personnel, who noted that the situation did not appear to warrant armed escort.

The reporting officer clarified that while additional security measures might prove unnecessary, accepting criticism for excessive caution was preferable to accepting responsibility for avoidable harm, compromised personnel, or an preventable incident involving local wildlife.

The co-pilot registered continued objection to the command decision.

Objection noted.

Upon disembarkation, RG-11 joined Knight Porte near the halted route and assisted in evaluating the surrounding area. Visual checks confirmed no immediate hostile presence, no signs of ambush, and no mechanical hazard along the walker's projected path. Patrol points were identified, movement lanes were reviewed, and the herd's behavior was monitored to ensure no panic response was triggered by personnel presence.

Several nerf herders in the area appeared nervous due to the proximity of the walker and armed personnel. RG-11 maintained a non-threatening posture where possible, kept his weapon controlled and lowered, and allowed Knight Porte to take the lead in any interaction requiring reassurance or diplomacy.

No shots were fired. No animals were injured. No civilians were displaced. No crew members were bitten, trampled, or forced to explain to command why they lost a fight with livestock.

Once the area was confirmed secure and the herd continued clearing the route naturally, RG-11 and Knight Porte returned to "Crownbreaker." The halt remained in effect until the path was completely safe for forward movement.

The inspection confirmed the original command decision as prudent. While the mission remained routine, the situation demonstrated that routine operations still require attention, judgment, and restraint. "Crownbreaker" remained combat-ready throughout the delay, and the 17th Column Forward Group resumed transit without escalation.

"I hope it isn't so safe and remote there isn't time for a photo op, Love," Dominique replied with bemusement. Not that she meant it. Though she did mean it in a way. Other people could do the whole 'altruistic act in the shadows' thing, but a Chancellor needed to be seen doing such things. People started thinking a woman simply ceased to a exist if she wasn't constantly in some holo-feed.

Speaking of which, perhaps there weren't enough scandals or rumors floating about. Maybe that's why Dominique felt like she had to work so hard for exposure. The price of trying to broker deals between the unlikeliest of partners, it seemed. Though some of those partners she had plans for should prove quite the talk of the Republic. Dominique wasn't too worried with that in mind.

Not too worried. Her eyes shifted toward Verity as Ayumi mentioned her name. Surely the woman would understand. After all, her Bill had been regarding the Sith Covenant.

Dominique's brow did lower briefly when Ayumi casually mentioned sharks, however. "You want us to punch a shark in the nose?" Where was the fancy anti-shark drone, or some pheromone that kept them away? Perhaps a sonic scrambler that irritated their aquatic hearing? No breathtaking techno-gadget for the occasion?

Then there was Feng's talk of being a girlfriend. Well, Dominique couldn't say she hadn't known, but to come out and speak of it... she couldn't help but wonder if that was some sort of tactic Ayumi was trying to leverage. On the other hand, the woman simply liked other beautiful women. Hardly ground breaking information.

"An underwater lightsaber? How industrious." Honestly, Dominique had never thought about how Jedi fought underwater. She assumed they used the Force. Perhaps some kind of telepathic, acquatic-animal taming or some such.

Her approach had been made while Isla seemed lost in a vision. Ala's stomach had knotted, watching the young one as she processed the confusion, and pain. There was so much to talk to Isla about, but all of it needed to be in the correct time...and place.

Permitting her masked presence to fully unveil, Ala stepped into Isla's periphery. The tiny woman stood calmly, hands clasped behind her back, and showed a severely diminished exuberance. It would take a little while for her to reclaim her normal comportment.

"I think it would be best you not...be carrying heavy objects right about now, Isla," Ala said, softly. There was no hint of reprimand, nor displeasure in her tone.

She waved her hand towards the man who had just scolded the Padawan. The Force washed over him. "It would be best she not help for this moment. Perhaps she should take a walk...clear her head."

The man's posture stiffened, and his eyes glazed ever so slightly. "Hey...perhaps you should just take a walk and clear your head," he said, clearly talking past Isla.

With a beckoning wave, Ala turned and walked with a meandering pace towards the shoreline.

Ala's presence materialized so suddenly that a sharp gasp escaped Isla's throat. A heavy silence hung around her Master, completely devoid of her usual bubbly warmth. Chit. I'm dead, Isla thought, her stomach dropping into a familiar pit of dread. Her amber eyes darted between Ala and the glazed-over volunteer, watching the seamless, subtle manipulation of the man's mind.

The box thudded against the ground as Isla dropped it without another word. Shuffling her feet, she trailed behind the bouncing mop of curls heading toward the shoreline, the weight of impending judgment heavy on her shoulders. Guilt and anxiety competed for dominance, forcing the truth out before she could stop herself.

"Okay, listen," Isla blurted out to her Master's back, her natural honesty overriding any attempt at coolness. "Whatever you heard is not true. None of it was my fault. I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time."

There was so much they needed to talk about. Ala was not even sure Isla was aware of Lorn's departure from Naboo. In retrospect, Ala had been her defacto caregiver for some time before he left. It had just taken his departure for it to become clear to the Grandmaster.

It all created a deep, and deepening, sadness within her. She was not angry at Lorn, and barely had been. The emotion had passed quickly. As had disappointment. Now she was just so very sad for him. His guilt prevented him from truly embracing his role as father to Isla, and as such...it threatened to destroy Isla too.

The sand, and its many pieces of broken shells, crunched beneath Ala's slow steps. When Isla finally started spilling the beans, Ala simply offered a surprised glance.

"And who, precisely, was responsible for putting you in the wrong place?"

xG52sDd.png

An unusual gravity weighed down her Master's presence, suggesting a burden that went far beyond mere disappointment over a broken rule. Isla remained entirely in the dark about any troubles at home, having spent her recent months buried in classes and friends. Maybe the overwhelming responsibilities of being Grandmaster were finally taking a toll on the normally cheerful woman. Concern flared briefly, but the sharp counter-question forced Isla right back into a defensive posture.

"Someone had stolen something from me," Isla exclaimed, scrambling over the loose sand to keep up with the steady pace. "Uh, my bag! Some thief at a festival. I had to get my belongings back and then everyone took it the wrong way."

Defending her reckless actions felt entirely justified, even if the execution of it all on Ukatis had turned chaotic. Her natural empathy made her sensitive to the shift in Ala's mood, prompting a quick, reassuring grin to break through her anxiety.

"Don't worry though! I smoothed it all over with a little Jedi Magic," Isla said proudly, waving her hand in a dramatic circle to mimic a mind trick.

"Works for me." Aiden spoke with a smile as Regal opted to go with him, as Aiden walked ahead of the walker. "I don't deal with Nerf's on a daily basis, to be quite honoest with you. More so, things of a more sinister nature." The Jedi knight chuckled lightly as he glanced around, memorizing the scenery around him, just for reference as they pushed forward.

"But, I do know, typically creatures that aren't so agressive tend to spook easily. Not that I'm trying to scare them. But just give them a gentle nudge, by showing a presence." Aiden chuckled lightly, as he took a deep breaht. "Oh man, I forgot how much they smell." Aiden whistled, getting their attention, and the movement began, slight at first, but at a more easy pace, not completey vacating the area, but it was a start.

It was really looking to be a nice day outside, definitely not the experience he was expecting or used to. The air was crisp, the sun was shining, and the only sound was the gentle hum of the walker’s engines. The nerfs were grazing peacefully in the distance, and for a moment Regal just wanted to sit back and enjoy the view. Duty called though, and they had supplies to transport.

… and the fact that he was happy that his helmet had an air filter. The smell of nerf dung was something else, apparently. Tapping his helmet he chuckled.

Standard issue, and protocol when out of the walker.

Taking his rifle in hand and holding it up with weapon discipline as he listened to the Jedi’s idea about spooking them. I have a stun setting on this, if I fire it into the air it’s loud. You think that’ll work?

You never know until you ask, right?

When Porte asked him about his time in the military, it caught the clone off guard. All my life. I’m a clone.

MISSION SUMMARY
Unit:
17th Column Forward Group
Vehicle Designation: Heavy Walker "Crownbreaker"
Reporting Officer: RG-11 "Regal"
Attached Personnel: Jedi Knight Aiden Porte
Mission Status: Field Assessment Ongoing / Herd Movement Pending / Air Filtration Appreciated

Following the controlled halt of "Crownbreaker" to allow a nerf herd and its calves to clear the supply route, RG-11 accompanied Jedi Knight Aiden Porte outside the walker for continued field observation. Environmental conditions were clear, visibility was favorable, and no immediate hostile presence was detected.

The surrounding terrain presented no tactical complications beyond the current wildlife obstruction. The nerf herd remained calm and continued grazing at a slow pace, showing no signs of panic, aggression, or rapid movement off the route. While the delay remained inconvenient, the situation continued to favor patience over force.

Personnel operating outside the walker maintained standard safety and field protocols. RG-11 remained helmeted, armed, and alert throughout the inspection. The helmet's integrated filtration system proved beneficial due to significant environmental odor produced by the herd. This is not listed as a combat hazard, but it should not be dismissed by anyone with a functioning nose.

Jedi Knight Porte proposed the possibility of encouraging the herd to move without causing injury. RG-11 offered the use of a rifle stun discharge directed into the air as a potential non-lethal sound deterrent, pending Jedi assessment of whether the action would safely redirect the animals or risk spooking them into a stampede. No shot was fired prior to further consideration.

During the observation, Knight Porte inquired about RG-11's military experience. The question was answered directly. RG-11 has served in military capacity for the entirety of his life as a clone trooper.

No further elaboration was required in the moment, though the exchange was noted as personally significant. Clone personnel are often assessed by designation, training, and function. However, lifelong service does not negate individual judgment, humor, restraint, or personal responsibility. The conduct of this operation continues to demonstrate that RG-11 is not merely following procedure, but actively evaluating the ethical and tactical consequences of command decisions.

The supply mission remains delayed but uncompromised. Cargo is secure, the route is under observation, and "Crownbreaker" remains ready to resume movement once the herd clears or a safe, controlled redirection method is approved.

Final Note: For the record, the helmet stayed on for protocol. The air filter earned a commendation.

Verity fell into formation with the other women, bobbing along pleasantly in their wake.

She wasn't sure what she had said to suggest that she needed coddling and reassuring. She wasn't afraid, really. A bit uncertain, perhaps, but afraid? This was a woman who had stood toe to toe with Mercy Mercy while the others were enjoying bon-bons and light refreshments with the Sith diplomats during that business with the Chandrilans. Afraid? Never anything so absurd.

Or so she constantly reminded herself.

"I'm really fine," Verity said dryly. "Just trying to get an idea for where we're going, that's all. I suppose it could do me some good to simply enjoy the journey for once instead of trying to drive. We are in your hands, Ayumi." The second half of that sentence, which she left unsaid, was try very hard not to destroy us. She smirked into her helmet at that. No, Ayumi could always be relied upon for good intentions.

"This place is beautiful," Verity observed lightly, taking in the seascape below.

Listening to the three of them Ayumi gave a nod... that Feng casually mentioned them well... she was glad there wasn't some big reveal or secret. Best way to do it as she was moving. "Alright ramblers, lets get rambling." The surface gave way with little resistance, sunlight still dappling the first few feet of water. Below, the reef begins as scattered boulders of coral, their surfaces rough and pitted, colored in muted browns and pale greens. Small fish dart between these outcroppings, silver flashes that vanish into crevices. The sandy bottom slopes downward, scattered with broken shell fragments and the occasional starfish pressed flat against the grains. As Ayumi was kicking deeper, the light softens from brilliant gold to a hazy blue-green.

Bubbles streaming upward from their fins, each one catching the last of the sun before popping against the surface far above. The reef here is alive with movement not frantic, but steady: a moray eel's head protruding from a hole, jaws slowly parting and closing; a crab picking across a stone; clusters of sea fans swaying in a current the swimmers can barely feel. Twenty feet down, the coral changed. Branched antler corals rise like tangled thickets, their tips a pale lavender that deepens to dark purple near the base. Parrotfish scrape against the surfaces, leaving chalky white scars that will heal within days. The water cools, just slightly, a sensation more noticed in its absence than its presence.

Shadows growing sharper as the overhead sun becomes a diffuse glow rather than a distinct source. Schools of blue-green chromis wheel as one body, turning in a flash that reveals their silver bellies. The reef's slope becomes steeper, a gradual staircase of limestone ledges overgrown with sponges tube shapes, barrel shapes, some as wide as a dinner plate. A turtle rests on a ledge, its shell encrusted with algae, one eye tracking the group without alarm. It does not move as they pass, only exhales a cloud of tiny bubbles from its nostrils. At forty feet, the reef dropped into a wall. The bottom vanishing into deep blue, a sheer face of stone and coral that descends beyond sight. Here the light is dim, all reds and oranges long since filtered away, leaving only blues and the faintest hints of green.

The corals grow larger but sparser massive brain corals the size of small cars, their surfaces carved with intricate patterns that hold sediment in their grooves. Gorgonian sea fans spread wide like lace fans, each branch a network of living tissue. A barracuda hangs motionless in the water column, its silver length catching what little light remains, its eye a black mirror. The reef's sounds are muffled the crunch of a sea urchin's spines against rock, the distant groan of shifting boulders. Below, the wall continues into darkness, and at its edge, the water feels deeper than the sky above, a vast open space that pulls the eye downward into endless ocean but Ayumi was moving and her senses within the force welcoming before she turned to adjust and guide.

"Thank you!" Feng beamed at the chancellor for the compliment. There was no time for further chit chat however as Ayumi led them below.

Feng admired the sights of the coral and the fish as they dove deeper. Before her thoughts turned to her companions on this little adventure.

So far the Chancellor and Senator Verity were being gems. Feng had trouble reminding herself of her ingrained scepticism of politicians. At first she had been surprised by Ayumi, not only her devotion to not just her people but as far as Feng could tell all people she might help with her power, influence, resources, networking, and connections. Also the not insignificant fact that she was interested in someone like Feng at all. Oh Feng was sure having a Jedi even a padawan on your arm added a certain chic, but Feng didn't believe for one moment that was Ayumi's interest. She had plenty of chic herself without going searching for it. Feng got lost in that train of thought for a moment before returning to her original thought.

Right! Politicians. Feng was beginning to readjust her automatic opinion on politicians perhaps even acknowledge it may be a form of prejudice. The prejudice of a girl who grew up poor, and serve the galaxy with the bare resources she had at hand. Which admittedly since joining the High Republic had increased considerably. Maybe a large part of that was due to the works of politicians like Ayumi, Senator Verity and the Chancellor. Maybe just maybe they were good people doing their best to serve the galaxy as best they could with their own skills and abilities.

Feng still didn't believe all politicians were holy beings of virtue by any means, but she was willing to conceded that some perhaps even most served their constituents to the best of their abilities. That still didn't rule out well meaning incompetence or worse forthright hubris, but it was still a significant adjustment in Feng's view. Politicians were people like anyone else and people were complicated, with good, bad and various shades in between. Finally Feng was just grateful that so far her exposure had been to the good. Ayumi trusted the Chancellor and Senator Verity Feng valued her insight, her ability to be a good judge of character. That was enough for now.

Feng could tell Verity was a little tired of the reassurance however. Feng shrugged mentally to herself. She understood a little of not wanting to be underestimated, though that often warred with Feng's own anxieties need for reassurance. Right now though Feng was feeling a rare bit of calming centredness. The realisation came as a shock, followed by giddiness and happiness. Feng felt like celebrating by doing a trick in the water, just a simple spin accompanied by a laugh.

Feng shook her head at herself, she decided to catch up to Ayumi after all in addition to being her girlfriend she was her bodyguard, if something were to happen Feng needed to be close enough to intervene. Feng caught up to Ayumi scanning the ocean for potential threats.

Upon his shell
Another ship came and approached.

“Master Vodet, you are needed on Kattada.”

Sighing, he looked to the Jedi and witches. They nodded. The Master was needed to help welcome those that came to Kattada and could not be sent off on this mission, not yet.

“Pilot, allow them to dock. Take the Hawksbill and finish the run. I’ll be on Kattada for when you return.”
The lumbering Master spoke, calmly. Looking out the viewport, on of Kattada’s Niathal shuttles lined up alongside the corvette. E-wings circled the vessel with the Jedi Starfighters.

It was Kattada standard, then, and more a political move.

Stepping aboard the Niathal, he poked the floor of the ship with the stiff mangrove, worn and changed over the years from the willowy and bending of the coast to what could support him.

“I hear they have brought more students, Master.”
The pilot said, Vodet taking a seat as the padawan on board handed him the datapad.

“Good. We can use them out here, help to expand our enclaves.”
He was the Waybinder, and sometimes that gave him joy, other times it meant he couldn’t go deliver foodstuffs.

Rambling? Was that some sort of nautical slang? Dominique knew many things, but under sea culture and slang was certainly not one. She hardly felt as though she'd been rambling in the literal, conversational sense, after all.

Some light underwater exploration wasn't unfamiliar, but Ayumi seemed inclined to go deeper. Dominique found it similar to certain zero-gravity chambers one could swim in. Since you couldn't swim in a real vacuum they must had modeled it after aquatic sport. There were many similarities. Aside from the temperature and pressure, of course, and the not-yet black diffuse light that surrounded them. A majestic blue.

Dominique turned to look over at Verity Stuyveris Verity Stuyveris as they delved deeper. "Druckenwell must also have a great deal of aquatic sights to see." She wondered if the two worlds were anything alike. It wouldn't be very fitting to use Denon as an example. Ayumi had only just reconstructed a sea and its native waters had been dried up for ages.

Far be it for the Chancellor to fill this experience with chatter, but there was no harm remembering they were a group. Perhaps something in particular caught their eye. It would be a shame if they all remain silent and didn't point out such things to one another. That and Dominique didn't mind knowing the other women were still around.

It certainly was different down here. Much as she found Naboo. Different from the industrial and cybernetic world Dominique unabashedly favored. It didn't diminish her connection to home, but it did keep life interesting not knowing what to expect when her eyes roamed over another coral or around a mound of rocks. There was even sea life buried in the sands, quick to burrow and escape them drawing too near.

MULXvZg.png

"You might be surprised," Verity answered the Chancellor. "Druckenwell is an industrial center first and foremost, but we are also sensitive to the fact that much of its natural resources, to say nothing of beauty and ecological diversity, was sacrificed to make it so. We have prioritized ecological and environmental preservation ever since, particularly with regard to the oceans and waterways."

They delved deeper, and Verity wondered if she was simply imagining the sense of growing pressure around her.

Don't think about it, she told herself. Which was about as helpful as telling someone actively bleeding to death not to think about the cut.

"The industrialists don't love the limitations it places on profits," Verity said, as a means of distracting herself as well as a means of making conversation. "But they certainly enjoy seeing their names on the announcements when they are honored for their largesse. I'm guessing you don't have that trouble on Denon?"

Ala stopped in her tracks. Slowly, she turned her head toward Isla, her expression unreadable. "You used a mind trick," she said, letting the accusation hang heavily in the quiet air. "To recover a stolen bag."

She paused, watching her Padawan. "And this explanation is intended to improve my opinion of the situation?"

For the first time since they had arrived, a tiny smile threatened to break through Ala's stern facade. It did not quite succeed. Turning away, she resumed walking down the path.

"Isla, if I have learned anything about you, it is that when a story begins with 'someone stole my bag,' it rarely ends with 'and then everything proceeded sensibly.'"

As her eyes drifted toward the open sea, her tone softened into something closer to resignation. "What did they take?"

9AAjYYE.png

Druckenwell found itself worried over the fate of its ecosystem? How novel. Denon likely faced such a moment. Perhaps several times. Thousands of years before now. Dominique was quite taken by the idea of discussing the reasoning of her leaders and how accepted the limitations truly were with their people.

"Not at all," the Denonite replied casually as they descended through the depths. "Then again, Denon has no ecosystem to speak of besides the forest cloistered away in District One." Dominique sounded quite upbeat about the news. Not because she liked a lack of flora or fauna, but because there was literally no point crying over milk spilled ages ago.

"Though, Ayumi and I could tell you a story or two about how thrilled they are with the Director's efforts to rebuild an ocean and introduce quality of life improvements across the districts. All about convincing them they would make more money in just as much time with a little investment." Her golden eyes shifted toward Ayumi for a moment to see if the lovely lady had anything to say on the topic.

Listening to the chancellor speak about it. "Just the one at first but we have done a lot more. Wait until you see the new smart water we have developed and there is our terraforming vessels, small and made for planets to lease out." She chimed in while listening but Druckenwell was a lovely place she was certain. "But I am sure the senator doesn't want to hear me talk about Denon again. someone untowards might think we are trying to push Denon Dependency the newest restaurant and food service provided across the high Republic itself with a special on krayt dragon ribs for the family." he said it while she was moving and turned to look at all of them. "We have a great deal and the Rrepublic offers the chance to better improve the lives of the people. WHen Denon rises, the Republic rises and thaat raises Denon and all of our worlds."

xG52sDd.png

Deflation hit her instantly. Shoulders slumping, the teenager trudged through the sand behind the older woman. Her proud facade completely crumbled.

"They stole a crystal I had retrieved from Ilum," Isla admitted, the confession tumbling out in a rush of honest frustration. "Let alone my own bag. It wasn't for this thief to have and he turned everyone around against me."

The sheer unfairness of the situation on Ukatis still stung bitterly. A crowd of locals had quickly sided with a charismatic pickpocket over a stranded Padawan. Applying a subtle mental nudge had felt like the absolute safest option to deescalate the rising tension of the mob.

"I used all of my tools to get out of the situation without harming anyone," she continued. Genuine confusion etched itself across her delicate features as she stared at her Master. "What else was I to do?"
