TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Electromagnetic Plasma Cannon
  • Size: Extremely Large
  • Weight: Extremely Heavy (~3,800 Tons)
  • Ammunition Type: Reactor-Dependent
  • Ammunition Capacity: Large
  • Effective Range: Extreme
  • Rate of Fire: Very High
  • Stopping Power: Extreme
  • Recoil: High
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Uses the same turret housing and barrels as the J-32 Ship-Mounted Heavy Proton Cannon Turret, but the proton cannon-specific components have been retrofitted to have electromagnetic liners for rapidly propelling their projectiles, removed the ammunition elevators, and replaced them with four powerful internal reactors.
  • Comes in two variants, a quad-gun turret and a twin-gun turret, which is basically the same turret, just cut in half.
  • This is not a mobile weapon, it has to be mounted onto a large warship or into a fortified base.
  • The turret does not require personnel to be inside to operate it.
  • Turret is has powerful capacitors, two for every gun barrel, mounted behind the breach, which is where the firing process begins.
  • Weapon is normally totally slaved to a fire control center, but is able to be manually controlled.
  • In case of a reactor spike the reactors themselves can be purged through blowout lines to prevent an overload.
  • The length of its gun barrels allow it to propel its electromagnetic plasma darts at extreme velocities.
  • Can fire in bursts of six before needing to let both of each gun's capacitors recharge, which takes about ten seconds.
STRENGTHS
  • Very powerful weapon.
  • Fast-firing for a cannon of its size.
  • Doesn't require ammunition, just a working reactor.
  • Very accurate weapon at long-range.
  • Very, very lethal against physical matter, can disintegrate a wide swath of heavy armor with little difficulty with explosive force.
  • The speed of the projectile approaches railgun speeds: 32 Kilometers per Second.
WEAKNESSES
  • Can only fire in direct-fire mode.
  • Very large weapon, not able to be removed from the ship or have components removed except through the use of dedicated rear-area components and equipment.
  • Slow to traverse, not much use against starfighters and close-in corvettes.
  • Large power supply is required, damage to the turret's reactors can render the corresponding the gun barrel completely neutralized until the reactor is repaired.
  • A reactor meltdown has the potential to blow the turret out of its turret ring, where it's mounted on the ship and damage corresponding areas of the ship around it.
  • Unlike other electromagnetic plasma weapons this weapon's projectiles are not guided because of the sheer speed of the projectile.
DESCRIPTION
A weapon designed from the ground up to utilize powerful and advanced Umbaran weapons technology to give Crossroads Republic Fleet forces a much-needed edge against the fleets of potential enemies and to simplify their lines of supply and eliminate the vulnerability their forces possess to running out of main battery ammunition. This weapon was developed to fill this role and has now gone into production using the components of already-stockpiled J-32 turrets. These turrets are meant to be fitted to the new Illustrious-Class Block II, Repulse-Class Block II, Monitor-Class Block II ships. These quad turret weapons are designed to be every bit as big and bad as their predecessors, but without most of the weaknesses of an ammunition-reliant weapons system. In terms of the doctrine that this ship is meant for the J-44 is meant to slug it out at ranges with ships who rely on railguns fire with, which is something that the old proton cannons, as large powerful as they were, could not do. But with this weapon, railgun-equipped ships are no longer safe at ranges they normally deem their own exclusive property.
