- Thorough Fakeout: The P8 Decoy Buoy covers a broad range of codes, emissions, and signs from starships allowing it to fool a broad range of potential scans.
- Fire and Flee: The P8 comes with a launching tube to allow the ship to fire the buoy out of the ship in any direction so it can move in another direction to throw off pursuers.
- That's A Buoy: The P8 Buoy won't fool a mass or gravitic sensor given its small size, and if someone comes into visual range the buoy will be completely exposed.
- Defenseless Decoy: Once launched, the P8 has no means to defend itself or even more and change direction, leaving it completely at the mercy of momentum.
The Captain's Choice CC-P8 Decoy Buoy is an elegantly simple device designed to serve as a countermeasure against trackers and hostile ships. The P8 Buoy is able to generate a broad spectrum of false signatures that nearly identically mimic its parent vessel, and can be fired from the vessel using an included launcher tube upgrade. This allows the real vessel to plan an escape or counterattack as their enemies are distracted by the sudden appearance of another ship on scanners. The P8 can mimic the transponder signal and signature of a ship as well as a full spectrum of energy emissions, false lifeform signs, and even broadcast automated messages on a loop such as distress calls.
While the buoy is fairly comprehensive in terms of spoofing, it does nothing to directly disguise or mask its parent ship, and a deep sensor scan or even looking out a viewport will show the buoy is a simple decoy. The buoy itself also has no defenses or mobility options, once fired it will simple travel in a straight line until it runs out of momentum or hits a solid object. Regardless, the P8 is an excellent countermeasure for those pilots that need to throw off a pursuer.
