Catcher in the Ra

Flinx tried not to cry, he tried so hard but it was not a fght he was destined to win. He felt her come in, felt her had on his cheek. that was the moment he broke. He needed to open up but he didn't want to scare her away. As she touched his face, she would be connected to his thoughts, she would see his past. All the beatings and scaring his father did. His killing his father with his fathers lightsaber and the look of horror on his mothers face. the re-bonding of him and his mother before their parting on kashyyk and finally his watching her flit and float through the kitchen. He cried and let her pull her hand away. he had practically laid himself bare for this stranger. he wandered what the point of it would be. Soon she would be off on her ship and back to her life as it was before her ship messed up. He just curled tighter and tried to rebuild the walls that had been shattered but that was nigh impossible now.

At a moment of true weakness, Flinx's barriers came crashing down. Ra could feel him struggle to bring the walls back up and block her out, she knew it would be impossible. Like putting spilled milk back in its bottle. The connection would remain open for the of thier lives.

She saw in her mind, he life flash before her. His torturous father and his death, the shock of the mother and thier reconnecting as well as thier final parting. Lastly Ra saw how he saw her, almost a balarina on her feet, flitting through the kitchen preparing thier lunch.

His tears soaked his eyemask and Ra instead of taking her hand away, pulled it off his face and leaned over to lightly kiss his forehead. This is a situation she was totally unprepaired for and didn't know what do to. What action would be the best or proper. Ra ended the light kiss when he turned away from her. Flinx tried to curl into a small ball with his back to her. Instead of walking away, she laid down on the bed behind, put her arm around his body and held him as he cried.

As Ra curled herself around him, Flinx felt his body cradled by hers. Her arm around him, Flinx gave up trying to lock her out. He turned over and hugged Ra. He cried into her chest. When he had no tears left, he just laid there, unmasked, bare, and vulnerable. 'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin our night." he just held her close.

Knowing there comes a tipping point in everybody, where the need to just let emotions out comes, Ra allowed Flinx to use her as that escape. He cried on her breast, just let himself go. His emotional and mental walls down, he was vulnerable, if she wanted to, Ra could have used this moment to destroy the young man in her arms. Instead, she just held him until he cried himself out and they lay together for a few moments before he spoke.

Her chin on top of his head and her arm around him protectively, Ra looseness her hold on him and looks down at his face. Ra smiles slightly at him and shakes her head gently.

"Nothing has been ruined and there's still dinner to make. If you want."

"Ra, can I ask you something?" Flinx hopped he wasn't getting too personal with his next question. He also loved how mothering and kind Ra had become. He wanted structure in his life. He needed someone to keep him sane.

Ra could tell Flinx had something on his mind when he spoke to her. She looked at him and tilted her head slightly and raised both eye brows.

"Of course, ask me anything you want."

She let go of him and stood up, looking down at him on the bed, waiting for him to ask his question. While he was forming his question, Ra reached behind her and pulled the tie out of her hair and let her braid out. While she was doing this, Ra wondered what was on his mind.

"Is there a Mr. Ra? Would you consider.......... never mind its stupid. Your hair is discolored at the end like it is kept inside something?" Flinx was full of questions but most were, in his mind, inappropriate. Flinx stood and hugged her tightly silently thanking her for her compassion. Flinx held the hug for as long as he could get away with.

As she was brusing her hair out with her hands, Flinx got up from the bed and hugged her. She returned the hug with one arm as she finished on her hair with the other. He asked his question, which surprised her, left a second unfinished, and lastly he asked about why the end of her hair is colored differently.

Ra chuckles slightly, but not making fun of the questions. She shook her head sideways as she answered.

"No, there is no husband involved and never has been, Flinx. I may not have had such a violent childhood as you, but I never had parents...that I remember. I mean I know I had parents, but they died when I was very little and I have no memory of them."

She then went on to tell him about what happened to her, growing up and everything until the moment he rescued her. Without really thinking about it, she had pulled away from the hug and headed into the galley. All the while talking, she mixed together dinner for them. Blushing slightly and coming out of her haze of memories, she looked at Flinx.

"Oh my hair! Yes, I wear a little ball at the end of it, but it's back on my ship along with a few other things I'd like you to see."

Flinx followed his guest into the kitchen and listened to her life story. He really wanted to "pop the question" but he was almost curtain of the answer. So he just watched and when the food was ready he helped serve her and himself. He ate in relative silence. Flinx loved the food. all the colors and flavors maid his head spin. After he is done he checks on their ETA.

After telling her life story to Flinx, they hardly say a word to each other while eating. Ra wonders if she somehow scared him off or offended him. She watched as he got up and left the room after eating. Not sure what he was doing, she cleaned up the plates and went to look for him.

She found him in the cockpit checking the navicomputer.

"Look, I'm sorry if I talk too much. You see, I haven't had anybody to talk to ever. Nobody I could trust."

Looking at the hyperlane in front of them and not at her friend when she spoke. She sat down in the copilot seat quietly.

"oh no, you are perfect its just you have given me a lot to ponder. We should reach your ship in about 3 hours. Would you like to take a nap?"

Flinx was tired and needed to rest but didn't want her to feel rejected.

Ra lets out a small snort not believing Flinx when he said she's perfect. She rolls her eyes and looks over at him.

"Nobody is perfect."

She says this in a flat voice, turning once again to look out the viewscreen.

"Have we been together that long already? Wow!"

The time had really passed by quickly, but she should get some sleep.

"That sounds nice."

Flinx climbed in his bunk and tried to get some sleep. Deep in his mind he wished that Ra would climb in bed with him but he knew she wouldn't. So, Flinx just laid there and waited for them to reach their destination.

Ra fell asleep in the copilot's chair and after what seemed like just a few minutes, the alarm indicating they had arrived near her ship was blaring away.

She woke up a bit groggy, wiped at her eyes and sat up. She noticed Flinx wasn't there and went to wake him up.

BB-3 took control of the ship and brought it out of hyperspace. Her ship a small dot in the distance.

Changing her clothes and putting her hair up again and out of the way, Ra waited for him to join her.

Flinx woke up with a start, not meaning to fall asleep. He sat up and aknowledged Ra. He quickly dressed in his trooper suit, and follows her to the cockpit.

He hands her an oxygen mask. "i guess its time to get ready" flinx really was afraid she would leave him after this.

Ra is as ready as she's going to be, when Flinx joins her in the cockpit of his ship. He hands her a facemask which she takes.

"I'm sure glad you have a mask for me."

It might sound stupid, but Ra really was glad he thought of her enough to bring it to her. When the ships were close enough almost to touch, Ra headed in the direction of the exit, looking for something to tether herself so she wouldn't float away in space.

Flinx steped upbehind her wrapping his arms around her waist buckling a belt with at teather to him and his boostpack. He hugged her and savored the moment before he closed the airlock behind them.

With her back to Flinx while looking for a tether, he surprised her when he wrapped his arms around her. Ra quickly saw what he doing and lifted her arms up so he could make the connection easier. When he was done, he gave her a quick hug, closed the airlock behind them before opening the ship to allow them to get to hers.

While he was tying the tether around her, Ra attached the mask to her face, hoping she had it on correctly. If she didn't then this would be a very short walk in space.

Smiling to herself a little, she waited while the air was vented from the airlock and space opened in front of them. She turned out to face Flinx and wrapped her arms around his neck, giving him a quick hug of her own and holding onto him while he navigated their way to her ship.

After a few short minutes, they had arrived and she quickly opened the airlock to allow them entry.

Not taking the mask off, she walked into her cockpit, the familiar sight to her. She brought as many of the systems on as she could, located what was wrong with her life support and looked at Flinx.

Her voice muffled through her mask, "did you bring any of the tools with you or do we need to go back and get them? Also I can attach my ship to yours with a few clamps. This way we don't need the tether."

I point to the open airlock of my ship where bb-3 was tossing parts and tools out into space. Flinx reached out into space and collected the tools with the force and pulled them into the ship. He then pulls bb-3 to the other ship. "There we go now lets get this ship fixed."

As if he read her mind, Flinx just pointed back to his ship where BB-3 was tossing out the needed items in thier general direction and he grabbed them using the Force to pull them in one at a time. Ra just shook her head slightly, not having thought of it herself.

They had already sorted the items on his ship, so she knew what parts went where. Quickly seperating them, she gently shoved a small pile in Flinx's direction.

"These go to the bridge and if you can get the one in the green package hooked up first. That goes into the life support and we can get these masks off. There's a communication panel in there as well and you can let me know when you get it attached. I'm going to be in the engine room, working there."

With those words, she grabbed her own pile of items and headed in the direction of engine room panel, lifting it easily, dropping the pack as gently as she could and jumping down after. Ra got to work on her own project and the lights came up quickly.
