Catcher in the Ra

Ra rummaged around in the cupboard of the galley for a few minutes and soon the smell of actual food filled the room. It drifted through the vents and the whole ship smelled of spices and cooking meat.

"Supplement paste? Is that like the food for bachelor these days?"

She said this with a bit of humor in her voice, but since she had head down in the prepping of the food, her face could not be seen. After about ten minutes of smelling the food, Ra comes out of the galley with two platefuls of food. She sets one down in front of Flinx and sits down with her across the small table from him.

Pointing to the plate, she identifies for him what each item is.

"Surrogate bantha steak and some sort of fried canned green bean. Oh and this."

Ra stood up again quickly and dashed back into the cooking part of the galley. When she returned it was with two yellow speckled muffins.

In the short time they had been together, Ra somehow knew she could trust this young man. Though they were only a few years apart in age, she felt they both needed the companionship of the other. She let down her emotional guard and allowed herself to let go of them. If Flinx could "see" more than just her, then he would notice the change right away.

"Thank you. You already had the items here, obviously, don't you know how to cook?"

She raised one of her eyebrows and looked across the table at him.

"I can teach you if you want. Also if I'm going to be around here for a while, you want me to pick up food while I'm down getting the parts for my ship?"

The cupboard was rather bare and contained mostly bland foods. There were way too many spices, but Ra was sure they were to liven up the poor selection of food.

When the Lady across from him seemed to relax, it was as if a flower bloomed. Every complex emotion could be seen in her aura as if she was a cut kyber crystal. He could see her shyness, yet she had a quality not unlike an older sister would for her naïve little bother. She finally seemed comfortable, which made Flinx smile. All the while he had completely missed what she had asked him. "oh... um... sure... food... yes food is good. And no I don't know how to cook."

When her emotional barrier came down, Ra could tell Flinx saw her for the first time. Now that it was down, it always would be with him.

"Whoa slow down eating or you're going to choke. You know like chew your food. It's not going anywhere."

Ra let out a small chuckle and continued to eat her food at a sedate pace. Growing up in a house full of kids, food was a rare comodity and eaten as quickly as possible. Once she was kicked out, she had continued to scarf her food down like somebody was going to take it away. Eventually it got through her thick skull that wasn't going to happen and she started slowing down and actually tasting the food.

"What kind of foods do you like?"

She took the datapad out again, put more into the shopping list and waited for him to answer.

Ra looks across the table at Flinx, but continues to make notes on the datapad for her shopping trip.

"Is that something you would want to eat again?"

Not positive she could make, Ra would try if he wanted her to.

"Never ask me to cook something in a reconstitutor processing unit. That never turns out well for the unit, the food or the local vicinity."

It's a weakness of hers, but one she overcame by actually learning how to cook real food. She's almost embarresed to admit it, but she can't unsay what she just spoke.

"Are you going to come with me or will I be alone?"

Their food portions were a bit on the small side, just something quick to cook and eat before the arrival for shopping. They sit quietly for a few minutes, just the noise of eating and Ra making jots on the datapad. The alarm indicating they had arrived breaks the companionable silence.

Ra stands up and goes to look for her cloak. It had been left on her ship, along with her weapons. Her only possessions currently were the clothes she was wearing. Looking down at herself, she looks up at Flinx.

"Do you have ANYTHING that might fit me?"

She had on a loose, light purple shirt and a copper colored skirt. Her boots were also absent, but she had on loafers. Certainly not something she would feel comfortable in shopping for hours.

Before Flinx could answer, Ra left the galley and headed back to the cockpit. She shut the alarm off and looked for the switch to take the ship out of lightspeed. The little droid let out a small beep and indicated which button was the correct one. She looked down at him and gently pressed the correct one.

"Thank you."

Not sure how to treat a droid, Ra decided to be polite to him.

Bb-3 looked at her and from a pannel a little arm shot out and gave what looked for all the worlds like a thumbs up. "Well im not sue you can check the closet, I think I still have some of mom's clothes in there."

Ra watched as the ship came out of hyperspace and took the commands from the spaceport as to where thier hanger is and brought the ship in for a landing. She turned to BB-3.

"Will you show me how this ship works? I'm a quick learner."

As the landing sequence began the ship descended through the atmosphere and to the docking bay. Ra stood up to go find Flinx.

"Where are the items?"

All she really needs are some shoes and maybe pants, but stronger shoes for sure.

Ra pulled her hair up and quickly braided it. The little ball, missing, she would have to find something to secure the end or it would come undone. Flinx directed her to a small cloest in one of the rooms.

Rummaging through the few items that had belonged to his mother, Ra found a small cord to tie her hair, a hideously orange shirt which she passed up deciding the purple would be fine. The woman has been slightly taller than Ra, but she found some brown pants that would do in a pinch if she could find some boots.

She did find two pairs of shoes, one were loafers similar to what she was already wearing and Ra set those to the side. The other pair, not quite what she had mind would be okay...if they fit. Ra sat down on the bed to pull the ankle boots on and tie them up. Tucking the longer bottoms of the pants in, she laced the boots and stood up. Ra took a few steps to find the boots almost fit, they were a little large in the toe and heal area, but certainly better than the loafers she had on before.

"Are you ready, Flinx?"

Taking one last look into the closet, Ra found a long, dark brown coat and fit that on over her shoulders. She grabbed the datapad with their shopping list and headed in the direction of the landing ramp to leave the ship.

"I guess Ra. Im sorry, you just brought a lot of memories of my mom." Flinx removed his now tear soaked mask and replaced it with a fresh one. BB-3 came out and looks up at Ra beeping her series of beeps and boops telling you that she would teach you about the ship. "Lets go." Flinx reaches out and two secret panels o opposite sides of the ship open and his two lightsabers fly to his hands. "Yes I'm a Jedi, now after you." Flinx addresses the ship "Ship protocol: Mother Talzin, execute in 2 minutes. mark"

After landing, BB-3 comes over to Ra and answers her query about teaching her how to fly the ship. Though she didn't fully understand what he said, she picked up most of it. He would happy to teach her how to pilot the ship. He turned away to finish prepping the ship for a bit of a stay.

Ra turns to look at Flinx as he started speaking, his voice a little touched with sorrow. Other than the tears of small children, Ra had never really seen an adult show much display of emotion. The tears of Flinx surprised her and she watched as he calmly replaced his wet mask with a dry one.

"What happened to your mother?"

Not having any memory of her own mother and only ever known the distant mother of the orphanage, Ra didn't know what that type of realtionship could be like.

She watched as Flinx picked up his lightsabers, but remained silent. She chewed the bottom of her lip as he prepared to open his ship. The ramp lowers and she takes the lead in heading to the market to pick up the items and supplies they both need.

Ra could almost feel the pain and sense the tenseness of Flinx when she asked about his mother. It was obviously a painful memory and topic. She could have reached out and touched him to offer comfort, but Ra didn't feel like he should be treated as a child. Though he was an adult, he seemed so young, lost and alone. He needed her. She didn't know if she needed him the same way though. For now, she did though.

Leaving that conversation behind, she turned to look up the ramp at him and waited for him to come down. They walked side by side to the market, making small conversation about items they would want, need and even some items they could only dream about.

She finds the first shop closest to the spaceport, to be the one dealing with ship parts and the tools used to fix it.

"How well does BB-3 do for working on the ship?"

It was a question she should have asked the droid, but it hadn't crossed her mind.

"He hands me tools and i fix the ship. i seem to have a way with mechanics. it like i can see int the inner workings of smething and give it just the right nudge with the force for the ship to practicaly heal itself." Flinx just kept a watch out and paid for the parts and supplies whenever it was time. this woman was his guest after all.

"Ah I see. So are you willing to help me repair my ship?"

Ra had just assumed the droid did most of the repairs for some reason and not Flinx. She quickly got to bartering for the items and they left with a handful of ship parts and one larger one that would be brought to the hanger at the end of the day.

She went to pay for the parts, when Flinx instead paid for them. These were for her ship and Ra didn't feel right about having him pay for them. Something she would bring up later, not in the middle of the shop.

The morning flew by and her stomach started to growl. Ra stopped, with arms full of packages and looked at Flinx.

"Are you hungry? Personally, I'm famished and I see a place just up the street a little with some food that sounds interesting."
