DESCRIPTION
The Carteneau mobile anti-aircraft was borne from the realization that the Hwacha was proven to be deficient in an anti-aircraft role: it was more akin to rocket artillery than a dedicated anti-aircraft platform, and it also proved to be too lightly armored to be of much use in area defense. A new innovation that allowed to afford some level of armor without rendering it too heavy is slat armor, which is mostly made up of slatted durasteel grids covering key areas of the vehicle, giving it a caged feel. While not as effective as ERA in defending against projectiles, it allows infantry and other soft units to operate closer to the vehicle in area defense. It also incorporates sloped armor, forcing projectiles and energy weapons to travel greater distances across armor plating to penetrate it. Finally, rounding out the defenses are shield generators.

Its armament suite comprise three flex-tube launchers, capable of accommodating missiles, including but not limited to, SAMs up to the size of a proton torpedo, and also two twin turrets of Umbaran electromagnetic plasma repeater cannons, capable of being used against infantry, light vehicles as well as aircraft. However, outfitting missiles also means there is only a finite amount of ammunition a Carteneau can carry.
