Description: The OMT-490 was designed to be a state-of-the-art medical cruiser. While the Cardea Medical Center was the jewel of medical care within the Protectorate, not everyone could afford care there, either due to injuries preventing travel or location. To remedy this issue, the OMT-490 Heavy Cruiser was equipped with medical facilities comparable to those found on the Cardea Medical station. Advanced automation afforded the ship a phenomenally low operating crew, allowing significantly more room to attend to the patients on-board the ship.

As part of the automation that runs the ship, the OMT-490 has a number of automated ion cannon and quad laser banks. While nominally as powerful as those found on a military vessel, due to a lack of dedicated gunners or military software, the weapons on-board the ship can do little to repel anything more than a light pirate raid. Rather than seek to engage such raids, the OMT-490 has advanced sensors to detect would-be enemy ships and a long-range communication array to signal for aid should it require.

However, it's medical suite is truly where the OMT-490 shines. With dozens of bacta tanks, recovery wards, machinery to create synthetic blood and tissue, operating rooms, and a medical database compiled from centuries of data and thousands of healers and doctors, the survival rate on even the most severely wounded individuals is over 95%.

With pirate raids on medical convoys growing more common, the OMT-490 was given a refit to give it a more intimidating military profile and increase its effective armament. The twenty automated ion turrets were upgraded to fifteen automated dual ion turrets. To further add to its fearsome facade, the OMT-490 was loaded with twenty-five dual mass driver flak cannons, all automated, to scare off potential raiders. Even with these upgrades, however, the OMT-490 remains vulnerable to proper military assaults.
