Cait Teaches flying (Open/Naboo)

hangar+naboo.jpg

Location: Theed, Private Hangar
Objective: Learn flying, have fun!

It was another day on Naboo. Today she was leaning up against a private stock of A-Wing fighters, reading spacebook off of her datapad. Since retirement she hadn't done much but haul Ice between Naboo and Sullust and it was starting to wear on her.

A friend had asked her to teach a class on flying. He knew she was abetter Fighter Pilot than Freighter Pilot if they were being entirely honest. With what he offered to put on the class, she could make up for the Mara corridor incident where she lost half her convoy to pirates.

So she took it, and it was an open class. Most of it was gonna be geared towards those who had never flown before, but there was sure to be a few veteran pilots as well.

"Yo Cait!"

It was Alex Panaka, a friend and comrade back when she had been a Marine.

"Yo yo! Alex, what's up."

They shook hands and she looked towards the fighters.

"All fuelled up?"

"Yep, ready to go. I'll be in the control tower. Go ahead and launch when you got your students and you are ready."

"Sure thing, I'll see you later for drink?"

"For sure!" He said, walking away but waving as he took off....

Learning to properly fly a star ship was something Fomorta really needed to learn before even considering buying one for herself. Relying on other pilots to get to different systems and planets was starting to get old, especially with more high propriety target being assigned to her by more wealthy.. customers. Coming to Naboo for a flying lesson since she was currently in the core worlds seemed like a good idea and if Cait was as good as a pilot as she thought this would prove to be a very useful lesson.

Watching Cait Formorta waited to the side until the lessons where to start, good thing they where using A-wings and not some expensive N-1 star-fighter or another type. She continued to wait until Cait got the message to start the lesson, this would be fun.

They had a new student!

Cait smiled as Formorta approached and nodded. She shook her hand.

"Welcome to my class newbie. How much piloting experience ya got?"

She took a seat on a cargo crate, uncorking her hip canteen to take a long sip of water. Her hair was still a little messed up from the night before, and her face was a little dry. She was fighting of the last little bit of a hangover. The beer had flown strong the night before, and she'd cut loose like an animal.

No one had to know that though.

Keep it professional Cait, She thought to herself.

"To he honest my skills are rather lacking, I have some experience with air speeders but besides that star fighters are faily new to me, I was not really one to get off world very often".

She replied to her question and looked over the parked A-wings as Cait took a drink from her cantina, the A-wing was a small sleek fighter and she liked the smoothness and shape of its hull. At the sameness time wondering about Cait. though she was trying to be professional Fomrorta had a feeling her methods would be unorthodox for some reason, though she could be wrong. That didn't matter though she was not stranger to unorthodox methods as long as they worked as well.

"So when do we start and what routine are we going to go through to get me flying properly"?

She said looking back to Cait as she finished drinking.

"We can start right now, hop in the Cockpit."

Cait brought her over to an A-Wing and ripped back the release, letting the canopy pop. When she was settled she leaned in and nodded.

"Right. This right here is the yoke. You push up, you dive, pull you climb. That'll be your altitude control. The pedals right here are speed and breaks. The yoke goes side to side too for your normal rolls and such. I'm going to put you on auto-pilot till we get up there and then we'll cut you loose and see what you can do."

She probably should start off atmospheric, with gravity. That was a bit complicated though, and Cait like space better. More room for error in the black.

"You'll need this too." She said, dropping a helmet in.

She got in her own fighter and powered her up. Formortas fighter was slaved off of hers. In a few moments they took off and flames wreathed their hulls as they rose out of the grip of Naboos skies....

The basic controls where familiar and she was sure shed be able to get the hang relatively quickly, though she wasn't about to become cocky their was always room for mistakes. Listening to the instruction form Cait and simulating the movements with her won hands to get the feeling familiar. She then caught the helmet Cait dropped to her inspecting it before strapping in on making sure it properly fit, and got preferred for the craft to be lifted off in auto-pilot.

The way the A-wing lifted off was much different from a air-speeder the way that it hovered before taking off as well the power behind the engines. Though shed felt the similar sensations when in bigger ships she took rides on from system to system the agility of the A-wing made you feel each slight adjustment made to its flight path. Formorta slowly looked around the cockpit familiarizing herself with other controls and feeling while waited for Cait to give her instruction on what to do. She would be lying if she said this wasn't exciting, your first time flying wasn't something you would forget about anytime soon.

They were far enough into the void and outside of the space lanes now, that she could turn off the Autopilot. And she did.

"Aright, you got the basic layout. Hit your thrusters hard and then slow to half speed and then stop."

She demonstrated, jamming her boots into the pedals and watching the speed rating climb in her HUD before braking.

"After that do a right turn, left turn, go up, go down. Then stop and we can go from there. Don't reef on it, light movements will do then adjust."

After Listening to Cait instructions and demonstration she placed her foot on the accelerator and flew the A-wing at high speed before breaking around the same point Cait did slowly coming to a stop behind her righter. The sensation was similar to a speeder but the weightlessness of space made feel like you had more control over the ship.

'Seems easy enough, okay now for some maneuvers"

Next she took the ship through the motions and maneuvers Cait said, speeding up again she made the left and right tuns and centered the ship before going up and down trying to be as smooth as possible, probably taking the bends a bit slower that usual.

"Now was that Cait"? Slowing the A-wing to a stop

"Your doing great girl. Now do two barrel rolls and then Dive. Your ship is outfitted with mock blaster cannons. You'll note there's a trigger on your yoke. Line me up if you can and try and score a hit. I bet ya a case of beer ya cant."

It was kinda a losing bet. Her professionalism was coming undone.

Feth it. I'm not General Sandusky anymore. I'm just Cait.

"Dive, dive, dive!"

She dove her own fighter. It was kinda a losing bet, but it had a secondary purpose. She wanted to have a couple drinks with her later. Formorta was brave, braver than most folks she knew. And she caught onto flying quick.

Cait hit the pedals, going full burn away from her as she plunged.

'Um okay i guess, your on", 'At least that what i think they say'.

It was an odd bet to her but a bet non the less and even if would be nearly impossible to hit Cait she was still going to try, practice makes perfect. Performing the barrel rolls felt weird with not proper way to orientate ones self with not gravity but would make things easier once she got accustom to it.

Grabbing the yoke she pushed the fighter into a dive trying to follow Caits movements and line up a shot.

'Okay just think back to all the speeder chases back on Tatooine, should be similar to that, also your a sniper movement prediction try and guess what your targets going to do next, yo got this'

Increasing the speed of the A-wing she started to try and get into a prime shooting position behind Cait's fighter, this would be difficult.

Cait kept jigging this way and that, goading her farther and farther from Naboo. She made a point to keep an eye on their fuel levels though. They should be just fine. Then she dived again and pulled up hard, coming into a full circle and dropping behind her student.

Her mock blasters ripped into her as she smashed the trigger. She'd hear a beeping sound in her cockpit.

"Score one for me. Try my trick now. It's good for getting people off your back."

The way Ciat handled the fighter was really impressive, and when she suddenly pulled that move and dropped in behind her confirmed her suspicions that she was mostly likely ex-military of some sort,

"Alright I'll give it a try"

running though hand motions in her head she they moved the joy stick causing the A-wing to dive, a little harder than nessassary, before pulling up and looping missing Caits A-wing by only a few feet before coming around behind her a little off to the left side.

"That didn't go as planed"
