• SPECIAL FEATURES

Due to a more compact head than the B1, commando droids can don standard trooper armor for infiltration missions.

  • commando droids are able to alter their vocabulators in order to imitate target vocal patterns

  • Standard charge last four days

Strengths:

  • heavy armor improved durability and allowed them to withstand several direct hits

  • extremely agile and acrobatic

  • able to continue fighting after having their legs damaged beyond use
Weaknesses:

  • atypical responses to orders (usually "roger, roger," a common battle-droid response) means that observant individuals could see through the ruse.

  • Continuous use of the Integrated Holographic Disguise Matrix causes considerable extra power draw limiting run time to just under eight hours.

  • Due to the experimental nature of the Integrated Holographic Disguise Matrix long term use or incomplete scans of the target to be disguised can cause visual faults and inconsistencies.
DESCRIPTION

To meet the rising need for infiltration specialized droids CIS engineers developed the BXD-series droid commando. Using the original BX-series droid commando as a base for the new model in an attempt to keep costs down CIS engineers modified the chassis to be compatible with the numerous holographic projectors required for the disguise matrix. The primary Holographic Module was located below the chest plate in an extended section of the armor to avoid interference with normal operations. Additionally the standard BX-series three digit hands were replaced with with a five digit version.

Due to time restraints the original BX-series line of code had only minor changes made to allow the droid to utilize the Integrated Holographic Disguise Matrix. This included the ability to use basic scans utilizing its built in photoreceptors to replicate the target image. Lack of additional programming causes minimal adaptability when dealing with incomplete or corrupted scans when employing the Disguise Matrix. Initial testing showed that while a majority of the Disguise Matrix deployments were successful at least fifteen percent had complications derived either through incomplete target scans or extended use causing unusual visual glitches e.g. changing in color, additional orifices or appendages. While attempts to improve communications and interactions with biological targets were made by utilizing COTS (commercial off the shelf) protocol chips it was ultimately refused due to unexpected conflicts with the existing programming and the original code was left in place causing atypical responses to inputs which increases the likelihood of discovery.

The project was considered an overall failure leading to its limited manufacture run but certain successes were made. Units are still available for deployment upon request through official channels as well as additional manufacturing if the need arises. CIS engineers on the project have taken data collected during development and testing and hope to resurrect the project with more time and funding to create a more stable and more effective infiltration unit at a later date.
