Chrest sat in his solitary, lonely desk within what equated to almost his personal palace in New Aldera. He looked over the plans of the new freighter that he had commissioned to be built on Dornea by one of many companies managed under the umbrella of Chrest’s Seneus Limited corporation. Five were currently on order and set to be delivered to the planet Formos. Both systems were outside the current reach of the Empire, which was ideal for the plans that Chrest had.

The aging man’s eyes shifted to another screen where he viewed a lease agreement for dock and office space on Formos. He gave a nod of his head and accepted the terms on faith that he would be able to close those he intended to occupy that space. Once the lease agreement was complete, Chrest pressed send on a pre-recorded message that would be delivered to the personal attention of Sorr Kortu and Brinna Dara.

Captain Kortu, Ms. Dara, I am Chrest Kimallen. I hope that this message reaches you well. I have received your names from people I respect as those I can count on to engage in a business venture on my behalf. I have heard that your careers in…let’s just say semi-legal logistics… has had its ups and downs. From what I’ve been told some have come as growing pains and others because you lack certain assets. I hope to offer you some of those things that you have lacked in the past.

First the opportunity. In my current status as a suspected terrorist threat to the Imperial State I find myself lacking in ways to move things physically throughout the galaxy. I would like you two to start a courier business. Your number one client will be me. To enable you to fulfill my needs and service other customers I have five new model freighters on order and I have rented you office and dock space on the planet Formos. I will need you to complete business within the Empire, Hutt Space and the new territories of my allies within the Tingel Arm Coalition. As such I will also facilitate you setting up satellite offices in those territories.

Beyond my own jobs you will be free to take on whatever jobs you wish. What side of the law you operate is up to you. However as an added incentive you will be a part of the Seneus Limited family which will include legal representation should you need it. I would like to say that you can take your time to consider this, but unfortunately I just don’t have that much time. Please visit the offices of my lawyer Mer Fant in two standard galactic days. He will see you to me and we can go over any concerns and requirements you have to do business with me. If you don’t show, I will be required to seek out another group to employ. Thank you for your time.

A simple delivery to Vorzyd V was of course anything but. Nothing ever seemed to go to plan for the crew of Tiaza’s Purr. Thankfully it never seemed to hopelessly end up off the rails and eventually the young crew was able to correct things and ended up each adventure coming out better than when they came in. This job was handled by just Brinna and Sorr with Proto and M.O.M. as back up.

The delivery was eventually completed and they rushed away from Vorzyd V. The fee for the delivery had just been collected and it was time to move on to whatever next. With credits in the account that usually meant the Sorr would head off to find Vletti'azan'uosus Vletti'azan'uosus and Brinna would head home to Nar Shaddaa to spend time with Shoan Dystra Shoan Dystra before lack of funds forced them to see what other jobs were out there. But this time as the ship was ready for departure the comm lit up with an incoming message.

Brinna looked to Sorr with concern. Not many people knew to contact the Purr directly. Certainly not a client. Right? Surely that meant it was one of the rotating crew members, or one of their significant others. With their luck it probably also was not a good sign. Brinna pressed the comm button as Sorr continued to ready the ship to leave. She was about to give a greeting before she easily discovered that the message was pre-recorded.

Listening carefully, Brinna’s brow rose in curiosity. She had never heard of Chrest Kimallen, but she knew of the rebellion on New Alderaan that was put down by the Empire of the Lost. A rebellion which seemed to make a name for Velran Kilran Velran Kilran making him Emperor. Anything semi-legal, backed by a New Alderaanian was bound to be connected to the Rebellion. Brinna really didn’t like Empires, so that made Chrest quite the intriguing fellow.

The young brunette gave a bit of a cringe as their short career was described as having “growing pains”. It was true of course. This mission was not an outlier; everything they did had ups and downs. Still it wasn’t the reputation that she hoped was out there for them. An offer to make available certain assets was intriguing.

The mention of the planet Formos as their base of operation had Brinna scratch her chin and call up the galaxy map to consider. The location would be central to anywhere that Chrest would need to send things. And its history was in line with letting them do their thing without much interference. The territories that needed to be serviced were in line with what Brinna guessed. Satellite offices were probably a thing for later discussion, but they had familiarity with Lianna and Nar Shaddaaa. Something within the borders of the Tingel Arm Coalition wouldn’t be too difficult to figure out.

“What do you think?” Brinna said, turning to Sorr. She could imagine all the doomsday scenarios going through his head so she continued before he could respond. “Kinda sounds too good to be true. But we don’t have enemies on New Alderaan that I’m aware of. Seems like a pretty big ploy if it is a trap. We trip up things pretty good on the simple things. Should we at least hear him out?”

Sorr Kortu

Socially Awkward Smuggler
Sorr took a deep breath while he landed the Tiaza's Purr on the New Alderaanian spaceport. From the cockpit, Sorr observed the man Stormtroopers and Imperial officials checking out his ship. His fists clenched with fury, he had family on New Alderaan who were displaced when the Empire took over the planet. Many of their friends and family were forced to serve this new Emperor and the Empire of the Lost and any who spoke were imprisoned more likely disappeared.

New Alderaan was a beautiful place created by the survivors of the destruction of Alderaan back in the Galactic Civil War. It took many centuries, but the planet was crafted in the image of Alderaan before the planet was recreated. The planet served as one of the few happy memories Sorr had in his childhood as he and his family visited the planet for family get togethers. Sorr remembered climbing the Mountains, visiting the crystal caves, swimming in the lakes but now scanning the planet, most of its resources were ruthlessly mined in service for a warmongering Empire that should've died centuries ago.

"What was that?" Sorr shook his head when Brinna asked about the meeting. He almost forgot about this meeting, since Smuggling was starting dry up thanks to the stricter laws by the Galactic Alliance, Brinna and Sorr were back to a two-man operation again. Now they were forced to search for new ways to make credits and Sorr wasn't sure about this deal being made by one Chrest Kimallen Chrest Kimallen .

"We're in Imperial territory," Sorr said getting up from his pilot seat. "It's possible that we could arrested right now, these Imps will eat Smugglers like us for breakfast! Are you sure your source is legit?"

They finally made it to New Alderaan. Being inside Imperial borders of course began Sorr’s paranoia. Brinna couldn’t really blame him. And whether it was a self fulfilling prophecy or Sorr was just right more times than not, Brinna wasn’t quite sure. But they did seem to find trouble when in such obvious places to find it. The dock crew seemed pretty chill to Brinna though. And from what Brinna had gathered most of the customs agents were actually local Alderaanians not transplanted Imperials. If that was the case Brinna was fairly certain there was nothing to worry about. Besides, they didn’t have anything that would make their presence illegal. Not yet at least.

“Relax. I did some checking on the way here,” Brinna did her best to assure Sorr that everything was fine. “We have no Imperial warrants and no contraband. We aren’t going to be arrested on contact with the locals.” That was the truth. When given a chance, Brinna always checked their legal status at the locale they were headed to. So far they hadn’t actually gotten caught doing anything illegal, but in some systems suspicion was all it took to put out a warrant.

“As to the source. They’re certainly legit. Rich prominent guy before the Empire arrived. Stopped focusing on commerce, presumably to fund the stormtrooper rebellion in secret.” Brinna sighed and shook her head before continuing. “Since the rebellion failed there has been Imperial monitoring of his location and actions. He’s definitely in a position where someone else needs to send his messages for him. And he certainly still has the credits to do what he says. And that’s the stuff I can find. You got that much put away, there has to be more that I can’t find.”

Docking procedures were complete so Brinna stood and made sure her outfit was in order. “I couldn’t find much on the lawyer. He is a partner at the law firm that we have directions to meet at. He is listed as the council for Seneus Limited, but can’t find much in the way of legal accolades. The firm is almost all commerce related. Mergers, acquisitions, talent agents. I think we’ll be fine. Ready to go?”

Mirror. It offered a reflection of a person. The outer person. The exterior. Hair. Skin. Garment. In it, a person could ensure their appearance was presentable. Acceptable. But what about the interior? The inner person? What was ethical? Respectable? If this cabin within this ship was any indication then its interior reflected a captain who was generous with his occupants and guests to provide them with apartment-like quarters in his Tiaza's Purr. That was definite. Yes, he ensured that they had the best as far as he could afford.

Rich? Poor? Perhaps neither mattered in the end. Ultimately, Captain Sorr Kortu was a product of his environment, this vast expanse and wider galaxy, but he had the personality that showed he cared within his bones. He was not so scared. He was not wicked. A smuggler, sure, but one of his passengers had met worse. Rather, one of his crewmembers.

Right. She was one of his newest additions and, at the moment, it was all she could do to stare into the mirror. She could see it clearer as she opened her eyes. This is you. Green eyes gazed back at her. Have no fear. See you for you. She didn’t grin. Didn’t frown. Drifting on a cloud. Wasn’t ashamed. Wasn’t proud. Through the nebula. Her name was Valenya.

In her quarters, on her knees, hands clasped, chin to fingertips, head bowed, Valenya prayed to no deity, no spirit, no ghosts, only to echoes of the past, present and future. Perhaps the context was lost on most but not to her and, in the end, that’s all that mattered.

“Ever grateful for your words…” She announced to the mirror in her outfit: blue jeans and a pink leather jacket. “The moments. The memories.” In a whisper. “You’ve made me happy.” Fingers lowered, stroking the petals of flowers in a basket sat on the metal floor. “More than you know.” Though she couldn’t stay. There was no time to delay. The others waited for her. She had to go.

“Sorry I’m late,” Valenya offered as she emerged from the ship to arrive beside her two companions. “My flowers needed my attention,” she smiled. “I am ready.” And winked.
