Some time ago a dignitary from the Eternal Empire of Zakuul reached out to Hekler'Kok Defense Industries to forge a possible government contract to produce weaponry and equipment for the Empire. In order to prove their worth they were contracted to first produce a personal shielding unit for the Empire, if the unit lived up to the military's satisfaction they would pursue further equipment orders.
With this in mind Hekler'Kok's design team set out to craft a shield that would impress the Eternal Empire's military leaders. Being run by a student of history the design team began to look towards the past for inspiration, in particular the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War a period considered the height of personal shielding technology. Many shielding designs were taken into consideration.
At first the team looked at the standard energy shield but this idea was scrapped due to the need for more than just energy protection. Next the Echani shield was considered but scrapped as well due to the aforementioned reason and because sonic weaponry was not prolific enough to necessitate larger scale protection from it. Finally the design team found a shielding unit that would prove to be their inspiration. The Mandalorian power shield.
Designed by the Mandalorians during the Mandalorian Wars, the Mandalorian Power Shield was designed as an upgrade to their standard Melee Shield. They Power Shield included not only melee protection but protection from energy weapons. The Hekler'Kok design team used blueprints from this design as well as from an old mining shield to give it not only energy and physical protection but protection from temperature extremes.
The end result of this merger would be the Bulwark-class Personal Shield. Upon testing the Eternal Empire found the shield to up to par and ordered a trial shipment for their troops.
