STRENGTHS
  • Astromech Slot - Located between the dual cockpits is an enclosed and protected slot in which an Astromech can be "slotted in" to provide additional support to the crew of the vessel. The Astromech can be utilized to assist in target acquisition, calculate navigational trajectories, or enact minor repairs.
  • Hardpoints - The BTL-S10 is capable of carrying a large arsenal for a vessel of its size due to the inclusion of multiple hardpoints located along the upper and lower wings. This allows technicians to arm the craft with a variety of armaments including Proton Torpedoes, Flechette Missiles, and Ion Bombs to name a few.
  • SLAM - A specialized overdrive system that allows a vessel to double its sublight speed. The system draws power from the craft's laser cannon reserves and provides a sudden burst of acceleration to the engines.
WEAKNESSES
  • Aft-Coverage - Though outfitted with a pair of ball turrets, coverage of these weapons is limited to the fore, starboard, and port vectors of the starship. Though the upper turret can fire towards the rear, the gunner must be careful to avoid striking the engines and the pilot must often enact banking maneuvers to provide a clear line of fire.
  • SLAM - Utilized to provide additional power to the engines to enact a rapid escape after a bombing run against a target, this system has the unintentional side effect of rendering members of the crew unconscious which can in turn result in the vessel becoming inoperable.
  • Limited Deployment - The BTL-S10 is markedly larger than its predecessors to accommodate a larger payload. However, this also prevents larger numbers of these craft from being deployed due to the space and limitations of supporting these vessels.
DESCRIPTION
The BTL-S8 K-wing Assault Starfighter served in the New Republic with distinction and were often considered the heavy hitters of their time, called in when a fortified structure or vehicle column needed to be eliminated. The BTL-S10 K-wing retains many of the design features and aesthetics of its predecessors housed in a notably larger craft. Like their predecessors, these craft are outfitted with hard points located along the upper and lower wings, with twenty-four such hard points being present. This allows technicians to arm the craft with a wide variety of armaments, including Proton Torpedoes, Flechette Missiles, and Ion Bombs, with each loadout being chosen to accomplish a specific mission role or profile. Unlike its predecessors, the BTL-S10 K-wing comes equipped with a Hyperdrive, allowing the craft to be deployed and travel without the need for a capital ship that previous iterations required.

Likewise, an additional feature present on the BTL-S10 is the inclusion of an Astromech Slot which is located in a protected, enclosed section between the dual cockpits. This ensures that the flight crew has additional support as the Astromech can be utilized in assisting the Bombardier with target acquisition, calculating navigational trajectories, or enacting minor repairs as needed. Though these craft are well armed, they do lack sufficient coverage along the aft of the vessel, with the ball turrets primarily covering the fore, starboard, and port firing arcs. However, while the upper turret is capable of firing towards the rear, the gunner must be careful to avoid striking the upper thrust engine, often requiring that the pilot enact banking maneuvers to provide a clear line of fire.

The size of these vessels also prevents them from being grouped in larger numbers, as squadrons are often limited to four BTL-S10s per squadron primarily due to their size and the logistics involved in maintaining and accommodating the craft. However, despite this, the BTL-S10 K-wing is beginning to pick up traction, with the first few squadrons of these vessels already finding their way into the Galactic Alliance Naval Forces and being deployed to frontline positions. As the Galaxy remains in turmoil following the Stellar Convergence, the BTL-S10 K-wing has arrived on the scene just in time to further bolster the strength of the Alliance Navy.
