Data Fusion: The system compares and correlates the data coming in from the myriad systems, showing the operator the combined picture from the various systems to reduce errors and outliers as much as is possible. This also allows accurate tracking, target identification and for clear vision through thick cloud cover, storms and heavy rain, fog, as well as other conditions that might otherwise impair targeting, tracking and vision to a severe degree. This also means the effect of ion storms, nebulae and similar phenomenon on the system is greatly reduced, though still notably present.

- Deep Space, Orbit or High Atmosphere: These mines are really only designed to function in deep space, orbital space or high in a planet's atmosphere, they will not function at lower altitudes.
- EMP/Ion: While protected against EMP/Ion damage, any weapon sufficiently powerful to overwhelm these protective measures can cause damage to the mine's more sensitive systems such as its detection, targeting and tracking suite and comms.
- Fuel: These mines don't carry enough fuel for a sustained chase of targets.
- HIMS: Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainers and similar technologies will be able move through hyperspace past the mines.
- Hypergates: Hypergates can completely bypass an area affected by these mines.
- Move Around: Targets can simply use their sublight drives to move around the mass shadow, though this may take some time.

The SM-02G was designed primarily to defend installations and locations, often being deployed together to create a larger mass shadow to essentially prevent enemy vessels from jumping into realspace on top of the defended installations/locations. These mines are active the moment that they are deployed and can essentially run undisturbed forever with their Isotope-5 power supply. These mines are coated in fiberplast and reflec, making them difficult to detect, engage and therefore neutralize. Additionally, these mines employ data fusion, giving them excellent detection, targeting and tracking capabilities in virtually all conditions.
The mine is unfit for at and altitude below high atmosphere on most planets. Additionally, HIMS will allow ships to bypass the mass shadows generated by the mine and hypergates are similarly unaffected. Additionally, targets can simply use their sublight drives to move around the mass shadow, though this may take some time. Finally, while protected against EMP/Ion damage, any weapon sufficiently powerful to overwhelm these protective measures can cause damage to the mine's more sensitive systems
