OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a vehicle/emplacement-grade repeating heavy mass-driver for Breshig War Forge and its subsidiary Strill Securities.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: Mass-driver Cannon.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Railgun.
  • Size: Very Large.
  • Weight: Very Heavy.
  • Ammunition Type: Power input, 125mm shells or missiles.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Average. 40 shells or missiles. 20 in autoloader, 20 held in reserve in magazine stored in vehicle.
  • Effective Range: Battlefield. Missiles with lower range are accelerated to velocities such that they're able to reach battlefield range.
  • Rate of Fire: High.
  • Stopping Power: Extreme.
  • Recoil: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Cooling Systems: In order to prevent the large amounts of heat generated by the weapon from melting it, the RHM-03 has an integrated cooling system that will shut the weapon down in the event of it overheating in order to perform a coolant flush and to allow the weapon to cool down. Most mounting platforms can carry enough coolant for five coolant flushes.
  • Large Variety of Ammunition: Breshig War Forge Consolidated manufacture a large variety of ammunition for the RHM-03.
    • HE-Frag-FS: The round contains 450 tunqstoid rods, each weighing 3 grams and creates 2,500 fragments when airburst. The round is detonated either on impact, or is set to airburst.
    • Ion-Detonator: An ion charge tipped round that's armed the moment it leaves the barrel. When it impacts against armor or a particle shield, the round detonates with about half the effect of an ion missile, capable of severely damaging shields and unshielded electronics.
    • Triple Charge HEAT-FS: A triple baradium shaped charge round designed to counted for Explosive Reactive Armor and Non-Explosive Reactive Armor.
    • APFSDS-T: Depleted baradium fin-stabilized sabot, designed to penetrate heavy armor.
    • APFSDS-TB: Beskar sabots, designed to penetrate beskar armor or equivalent. Extremely rare, used sparingly.
    • Missiles
STRENGTHS
  • High Damage Potential: With a high fire rate compared to most vehicle mounted mass-driver cannons, and an extremely high damage per shot potential, the RHM-03 is an extremely deadly weapon system.
  • Resilient: Given that the weapon is designed to be mounted mostly exposed, the RHM-03 is designed to be extremely resilient to all manner of damage with a duranium frame, stesr'gar-reinforced duraplast frame and a combat de-ionizer.
  • Long Range: The weapon's long range paired with the advanced targeting computers of most platforms that this weapon is mounted on means that the RHM-03 can be effectively used at long ranges, giving any platform mounting this weapon a considerable alpha strike potential.
  • Accurate: The RHM-04 is extremely accurate, meaning that it's long range is not just a marketing ploy. Platforms with good targeting systems can put the weapon's inherent accuracy to good use at the hands of a capable operator.
  • Versatile: The weapon can fire a number of different rounds and even missiles, giving it a potential to engage virtually any target with the appropriate
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Ammunition Capacity: Compared to equivalent blaster, laser and other heavy energy based vehicle/emplacement mounted weapons, the weapon does have a limited ammunition capacity.
  • Reload: While the internal ammunition magazine can reload the autoloader relatively quickly, the weapon cannot fire any ordnance except for whatever it has loaded in the barrel till the process is either halted or completed.
  • Loader Malfunction: Should the loader, for whatever reason, malfunction, weapon will be unable to fire except for whatever ordnance was already loaded into the barrel.
  • Vulnerable to EMP/Ion Damage: If the gun actually sustains enough EMP/Ion damage, it's accelerator rails will be permanently damaged, requiring a complete replacement of the barrel.
  • Cooling System Malfunction: Should the cooling system malfunction or become damaged, the launcher will shut down to prevent a critical operating failure, which could potentially cook off ordnance.
  • Sympathetic Detonation: While mounted internally, should a penetrating shot penetrate the weapon's outer casing and enter the ordnance storage, it could potentially set off ordnance, sympathetically detonating other stored ordnance and potentially destroying the vehicle or emplacement the weapon system is mounted on.
DESCRIPTION
Developed initially for use on the Jariler-class main battle tank, the RHM-03 Repeating Heavy Mass-driver was also adapted for use on emplacement heavy weapons mounts for the company's defensive weapons line. The RHM-03 was designed to be the epitome of versatility as far as the primary weapon for a main battle tank was concerned, able to fire a variety of different 125mm rounds as well as a variety of different missiles. Unfortunately, the weapon was expensive to manufacture, and as a result it never hit the export market, instead only ever seeing internal use with both Breshig War Forge Consolidated and Strill Securities.

With a high fire rate compared to most vehicle mounted mass-driver cannons, and an extremely high damage per shot potential, the RHM-03 is an extremely deadly weapon system. The weapon's long range paired with the advanced targeting computers of most platforms that this weapon is mounted on means that the RHM-03 can be effectively used at long ranges, giving any platform mounting this weapon a considerable alpha strike potential. The RHM-04 is extremely accurate, meaning that it's long range is not just a marketing ploy. Platforms with good targeting systems can put the weapon's inherent accuracy to good use at the hands of a capable operator.

Given that the weapon is designed to be mounted mostly exposed, the RHM-03 was designed to be extremely resilient to all manner of damage with a duranium frame, stesr'gar-reinforced duraplast frame and a combat de-ionizer.

Unfortunately, the weapon does have a few notable flaws. Compared to equivalent blaster, laser and other heavy energy based vehicle/emplacement mounted weapons, the weapon does have a limited ammunition capacity. While the internal ammunition magazine can reload the autoloader relatively quickly, the weapon cannot fire any ordnance except for whatever it has loaded in the barrel till the process is either halted or completed. Should the loader, for whatever reason, malfunction, weapon will be unable to fire except for whatever ordnance was already loaded into the barrel. Should the cooling system malfunction or become damaged, the launcher will shut down to prevent a critical operating failure, which could potentially cook off ordnance.

If the gun actually sustains enough EMP/Ion damage, it's accelerator rails will be permanently damaged, requiring a complete replacement of the barrel. While mounted internally, should a penetrating shot penetrate the weapon's outer casing and enter the ordnance storage, it could potentially set off ordnance, sympathetically detonating other stored ordnance and potentially destroying the vehicle or emplacement the weapon system is mounted on.
