  • Weight: Heavy.
  • Ammunition Type: Gas cartridge-power cell combined unit. 40-round gas cartridge-power cell combined unit.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Small.
  • Effective Range: Average. 500 meters.
  • Rate of Fire: Very High.
  • Stopping Power: Very High.
  • Recoil: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Integrated Gyro-Gimbal: Drastically helps with balance, sighting, and recovering from recoil, potentially allowing the user to ensure that each shot counts.
  • Three Fire Modes: The rifle possesses a semi-automatic, two-round burst and fully automatic fire modes.
  • Integrated Targeting Computer with HUD Linking Capability: The weapon features an onboard targeting computer which has the ability to interface with HUD systems and provide provide compensation for various atmospheric conditions, and uses the HUD's binocular mode (if it has one, and is limited based on the weapon's own range when used in this mode) as a magnified optic. Heavy amounts of jamming doesn't affect this feature given proximity between the weapon and the user.
STRENGTHS
  • Class-D Disruptor: Class-D disruptors can cause the atomic deletion of their target, potentially breaking down the chemical bonds. Each shot is capable of doing immense amounts of damage on target, and has little regard for armor.
  • High Velocity: Each bolt/pulse can travel the distance between shooter and target at a remarkable speed, fast enough even to give a skilled force user pause or to make the most ardent Verpine Shatter Rifle fan look on impressed or in envy.
  • High Rate of Fire: The rifle maintains a high rate of fire while managing to reduce overheating with sustained firing thanks in no small part to its dual barrel configuration.
  • Accurate: The rifle's advanced beam focusing systems allow it to display an impressive degree of accuracy for a weapon not specifically designed for precision shooting.
  • Resilient Frame: The rifle's armored frame allows it to take quite a beating. With a combat de-ionizer and reinforced duraplast reinforcements, the rifle is resistant to EMP/Ion damage to an extent.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy: This rifle is heavier that most 'standard' disruptor rifles, and as such limits the ease with which it can be manipulated in close quarters, despite boasting a shorter overall length.
  • Illegal: Disruptors are illegal on many worlds, but Class-D disruptors take that to a whole new level. It is unlikely that a Class-D disruptor would be viewed as a sign of someone not looking to start trouble even in space where it is legal. Which could lead to more than a few problems.
  • Immoral: The weapon is extremely immoral, given what it does to a target. Using this weapon will likely garner the wrong sort of attention. Perhaps even sign one's own death warrant.
  • Low Ammunition Capacity: In a pitched firefight with a high fire rate, forty shots goes very quickly. Especially when the wielder is faced with overwhelming numbers, as most who bring a Class-D disruptor to a fight typically are.
  • Overheating: With a small ammunition capacity and two barrels, overheating is usually not a concern. However, long periods of sustained firing, such as particularly pitched firefights where several gas cartridge-power cell combined units are expended, overheating tends to become an issue. At such a point, the weapon's safety mechanism will kick in and lock down the weapon to prevent permanent damage. Naturally, this is also dependent on atmospheric conditions.
  • EMP/Ion: When faced with a powerful enough EMP/Ion surge, it is possible that the weapon's defenses against aforementioned damage will be overwhelmed and the weapon's more sensitive components will be fried.
DESCRIPTION
Part of the series of Class-D disintegration weapons developed to use against their fellow Mandalorians, should civil war have spilled into their system. Breshig War Forge Consolidated learned from the mistakes of its DR-02 Class-D rifle, and based the DR-04 on the DR-03 Marksman's Rifle. As a result, the DR-04 retains much of the accuracy of the DR-04, however there is a great range discrepancy between the two, naturally. Additionally, like the bolts fired by the DR-04 can travel the distance to their target at a remarkable speed. The DR-04's real claim to fame is that it offers a high fire rate, with impressive stopping power in a dual barreled compact albeit heavy frame.
Even without taking into account the legal and moral considerations of Class-D weapons, the rifle does have a number of noteworthy issues. For one, the weapon has a comparatively small ammunition capacity of forty shots. In a pitched firefight, taking the weapon's high rate of fire into consideration, forty shots are likely to go very quickly. Those bringing Class-D weapons to a firefight are typically expecting to stack the deck in their favor, and are usually faced with overwhelming numbers or against decidedly resilient enemies in reasonable numbers, in both cases, forty shots is not a particularly high number.
With two barrels and a small ammunition capacity, overheating is an issue that most users will not have to contend with. That said, depending on atmospheric conditions, the weapon has been known to have issues with overheating during particularly pitched firefights where several gas cartridge-power cell combined units are expended. At such a point, the weapon's safety mechanism will kick in and lock down the weapon to prevent permanent damage.
Finally, while well protected against EMP/Ion damage, the weapon can still be affected by particularly powerful EMP/Ion surges. In such a case, the weapon's more sensitive components will be fried like a protato in a deep fat fryer.
