With a nightmarish appearance, the brairlix is easily recognizable as a cousin species to the gaithix, though it has none of the beautify from its evolusionary cousin. Coming in pale monochrome colors dashed with crimson on its antlers and mane, the brairlix stands a fair bit taller than its cousin. Its jagged antlers branch out from its head like a demonic tree and its teeth come in two rows, one row of fangs capable of injecting venom, and another used for mashing the vegetation that makes up their diet. Behind every hoof of the brairlix is a claw which acts as another method of injecting their toxins. As with most species in Veradune, the Brairlix possesses a lifespan longer than most species of its size within the galaxy.Bra

  • Distinctions:
Unlike the gairthix, the brairlix has no form of ranged defense, however creatures that meet it in the wilds of Veradune usually keep their distance due to the consequences of getting too close. Preferring to eat the more venomous and dangerous plans on Veradune, the brairlix breaks down the toxins as it digests its food to create its own. This toxin acts similar to devaronian blood poison in that any introduction past the skin of a creature causes a painful reaction which feels as though molted steel is travelling through one’s body as it moves through the bloodstream. Capable of driving most people insane after long exposure, brairlix toxin is a controlled substance on Veradune with harvesters needing a special license to harvest and sell. The brairlix has three main ways of delivering its toxin. The Aforementioned row of fangs in its mouth deliver the most potent dose of the toxin in the form of a venom which has been known to cause enough pain that the victim goes into shock before dying of cardiac arrest. The most common form of delivery from the male brairlix is its antlers which are covered by a layer of crimson velvet rich in the toxin which it will introduce to its victim by stabbing them. Finally, the brairlix can use the four claws behind its hooves to lacerate their victim. These claws are covered in an oil like layer of the toxin which then interacts with the wound in the aforementioned manner.

Depending on the delivery method, and the size of the wound, brairthix toxins will last for different times in the blood stream. Though, the average stabbing, clawing, and bite all last about five hours without an antidote being administered.

As they give live birth, brairlix fawns look very similar to their parents, although their antlers, fangs, and claws will not develop for at least five years after which, they are considered mature. Young brairlix are also distinguishable from adults in that their fur pitch black, only lightening and growing its white and grey patterning as it develops its natural defenses.

While males and females look similar to each other, it should be noted that females do not possess the antlers, however their toxins have been noted to be stronger, making them a larger target for those that would desire to harvest the toxin.

  • Force Sensitivity: Standard
Strengths:
  • Powerful long lasting pain toxins
  • Multiple modes of delivery for toxins
  • Travels in herds to discourage predators
  • Muted colors help them blend in if they keep their crimson mane hidden(usually done while they sleep)
Weaknesses:
  • Defenseless before maturity
  • Hunted for their toxins
  • No natural armor against the many clawed and deadly beasts on Veradune
  • Easily killed by creatures and beings with some sort of ranged attack. (ie.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Herbivore
The brairlix usually eats toxic fruit and plants within the forests of Veradune, so that their bodies can then break down the toxins and reform them into something that the brairlix can then use for its own.
  • Communication: Bugles and normal deer noises. Young Brairlix may scream when in danger.
  • Technology level: None
  • Religion/Beliefs: None
  • General behavior: Female Brairlix usually travel in herds centered around their young and a small number(usually 1-3) of males. These males will often fight for harem rights during the rut season wherein, lone males will often challenge older males in hopes that they might take control of the harem for breeding rights.
While young brairlix are guarded until maturity, males are often removed from the herd upon reaching full maturity so that they will not challenge the current lead male. There are however, exceptions to this rule with exceptionally large herds which may support more than one male. However, all males within a herd are always related, either as siblings or son and father. Should the herd shrink for any reason to create competition for breeding rights, the younger males will often challenge, or be challenged by the older male for breeding rights.
Brairlix are diurnal herbivores, which travel together as a herd so that they might eat with the safety of their group. When faced with a predator, males will usually hold their own(especially if they are not with a herd), unless they are outnumbered. Females that have yet to find a herd or have left theirs to avoid competition for food, will usually attempt to run from danger unless they are protecting their young.
When a herd is attacked by a group of predators, they will either run away as a group, or the females form a circle around the young while the males stand outside the circle ready to charge the predators with their toxin covered antlers.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Evolving in the deep forests of Veradune, the brairlix have been a stable wildlife for as long as the Veran people can remember, offering a new source of meat upon the sentient races; discovery of thrown and ranged weaponry. Despite the gulag plague and the troubles surrounding the political climate for the sentient races of their planet, the brairlix were mostly unconcerned by these struggles, experiencing minor losses due to their isolation in the woods from the Infected Zorren populace, and a problem of overhunting during the reign of the bandit coalition. With new administration on Veradune, such problems have been forgotten as the brairlix’s numbers have once again reached normal levels.
