Request Brainstorming New Stories For Old Character

I’ve been tossing around the idea of continuing some old characters but perhaps telling a story of their later years. Many of my faves like Kat or Holly always start to feel repetitive because even when I restart them it’s always the same.

So I thought If I aged them up into a different age category the story might bring new challenges. But most characters on the board look at least pretty young.

Do you think it would work to play an older one? Would they fit in?

I think it can work as long as they're also doing something different. If you make them older but they're still doing the exact same stuff in stories, it will probably feel exactly the same.

Shake up their story with a new direction and you might feel that it's less repetitive

I brought Alana back out of, erm, the lil pocket I put her in because I felt trapped with her situation. I just took the positive impacts, found a good place for her to vanish during her story line, and just wrote out what happened while she was away. Now, I have her path of self discovery and healing I can write, that I was trying to work towards from the onset without the baggage I had accumulated from before.

Dunno, just think of where you can take your characters and try something new to give them more depth.

I'm going to do something I don't usually do and comment on something like this. There's a case to be made for the differences in the connotations age has in different cultures. Now I know Jedi don't really have that sort of thing, but consider that most Jedi are likely to be far more mature and self-reliant than characters with a more conventional upbringing, with mileage varying from individual to Individual.

A Jedi at age 40 for example, has had considerably different life experiences than someone else might have. Of course, you can't control how other people play their character or react to yours, but you can think of how something like this might affect your character. How has their lifestyle affected their mind and body? Not saying you should or shouldn't age up your character, just positing that this might be something to consider.

At the end of the day, you have to pick what you like to write, other people's opinion, mine included, matters very little if at all.

That is actually a really good point. I feel like she should be older because she's done so much in her life but I guess so has Obiwan and he died what in his 50's?
