Details
On Ensolica, there are tales as old as the first drop of snow that all things cold and dark come from a realm of endless winter, far beyond the reaches of mere men and women. That the frigid chills during the night are the breaths of hunting dogs that scour the lands looking for prey to bring back to their master. A master who takes the form of a darkly armored figure who stalks the umbrae in hopes of finding the ultimate beast to kill, skin, and devour. To adorn their hall with the bones of their victims in the name of fame, blood, and majesty.

It is also said that this thing also searches for huntsmen. Loyal servants who shall aid them eternally in the hunt for this prime prize, some of whom may even turn into its great targets. And to these servants, the Darkly Armored Thing is said to grant mastery over the elements of ice and water and blood and the ability to reshape the Galaxy to their whims with hoarfrost and rime. Although, these are just tales, spun by nannies and drunks across the Galaxy to keep children invested in the future and the world of imagination. To keep them hidden from the raw brutality that is real life and locked in a realm of freedom and safety on their worlds, concealed from the evils and dangers that lurk in the shadows of the sun. Beyond the Jedi and forces of the Galactic Alliance who make occasional visits to the arctic tundras of Ensolica, no individual has ever fit the role of these servants. Not a single one who could command ice and snow with the same ease that the Jedi command wind and earth.

At least, until he came. He, who made these tales not just old anecdotes. Not just drunken accounts. Not just tidbits from a realm of imagination and wonderment told to children as the moons rise high into the night. He who made these stories reality - not lurking, not shrouded, but bursting forth into the senses like spears from a phalanx.
A reality that comes into being in no purer form than the man known only as...Boreal.

None can say with certainty as to why this Boreal was born with a mastery of the frigid elements, only that it granted him the capabilities of serving as one of Ensolica's paramount representatives and defenders. A role he continues to uphold to this day, even as he draws further and further away from his homeland in service to the Jedi.

Potence
  • The Cryomancer of Ensolica: Ice can be sharper than steel, and splinters like a sap-filled tree in winter cold clutches. Born with an intrinsic, inexplicably strong connection to the Force, Boreal possesses complete dominion over the winter elements - similar to Cryokinesis, but on a much broader and stronger scale. With this power, he can manipulate the liquid particles surrounding him - and even those within him and other beings - to form entire weapons, armor, constructs, and even reshape the arctic landscape to his will. However, more common than these applications are the conjuring of projectile orbs that freeze their targets on contact, semi-solid beams of ice that can cut through flesh and armor with ease, along with multiple other variations of flash-freezing.
  • The Martial Hunter of Frost: Hiding in plain sight is something all the best will boast of, but few can conceal the results. Boreal was born and raised on one of the harshest arctic planets in the Galaxy, and the lack of available food save for those artificially grown - along with the wild beasts that had evolved to hide in the winter cold - forced him to learn how to hunt like those in the tales. With each kill, he practiced his Cryomantic arts along with learning the blade of steel and - eventually - plasma, along with uncountable martial arts styles that allow him to combine both blade and Cryomancy into an unorthodox form of debilitating onslaughts.
    • Skills of a Makashi Duelist: A death by one thousand cuts is still a death, painful as it is to see. Since his joining with the Jedi, Boreal fancied himself a duelist by nature, which proved quite true with his natural proclivities towards the Makashi style. Working night and day without rest - for weeks on end - Boreal fine-tuned his skills with the Lightsaber to become that much more of a deadly opponent for those who would ruin the Galaxy with fire and corruption. As opposed to his Cryomantic arts, Boreal's application of Makashi is quick, precise, and light, lacking the slow raw brutality of a winter storm. This means that each strike he inflicts is one intended to injure rather than kill - an outcome he prefers to limit whenever possible, and only to his Cryomancy. His skills with Makashi are such that he can effortlessly transfer it over into a Vibrosword as well, although its effectiveness is naturally less due to the differences between vibrating steel and magnetized plasma.
  • Almighty Vigor of a Knight: And so the wrath of the righteous shall shatter mountains. Boreal was blessed to be born with the hardiness of a trained fighter, which only further developed the larger he grew and older he got. This enhanced endurance - partly genetic, partly because of his connection to the Force, and partly from his extensive training - allows the Cryomancer to engage foes beyond the skills of normal men, even those who themselves are at peak physical condition.
Impotence
  • The Fear of Things Beyond: Beyond the world, there are things that wait and things that watch. Call to them, greet them, and invite them in. Beware, for they may accept your invitation. Boreal was cursed as much as he was blessed by his birth, as his fellow Ensos believe him to be both the servant of the so-called "Darkly Armored Thing" that stalks the winter night in search of prey, as well as its ultimate prey. While not a truly religious man himself, the Cryomancer would be remiss if he did not admit to feeling some inner fear that this figure shall come for him one day. This fear comes from the fact that he is unsure of what the "Darkly Armored Thing" would do if it were to ever arrive and seek him out. As such, much of his more drastic actions are driven by this "primal dread," and is often the sole reason that he kills in the first place with his Cryomantic powers. Even more so, this fear occasionally intensifies without warning and induces an ominous vision in the midst of battle that can itself provoke violent tendencies until battle's end, and even beyond.
    • The Limitations of Power: There is always a price for power. Curiously, it would seem that Boreal's extreme connection to the winter elements has prevented his ability to learn other applications of the Force beyond standard Telekinesis. Most abilities of the Jedi appear to be lost upon him, making Boreal severely limited in his capabilities of defending against powers he has either no knowledge of or talent in. No answer for this has been discovered as of yet, although Boreal himself does not seem to mind, which can be seen as a form of arrogance or unfortunate resignation. Some of his fellow Enso who know of this limitation - and are hard set on believing the tales of their world - believe it was put in place by the Darkly Armored Thing, to ensure that he could not grow too powerful for it to kill, but only just enough to prove a worthy fight.
    • Troubles of the Past: Suffering felt, even long ago, is easily magnified. A cut hand becomes a severed arm, and a broken bone becomes a broken mind. Long ago, Boreal suffered an unknown tragedy that he has thus far refused to comment on, which also seems to play some part in his visions and bouts of broken morals.
  • The Heat of the Sun: Fire can be a deadly beast, forever hungry and malicious. As with most Enso, Boreal is highly vulnerable to heat in almost every capacity. However, his connection to the winter elements has worsened this genetic failure to the nth degree. This vulnerability's side-effects include sluggishness, organ failure, migraines, blindness, and even a type of organic "melting" that sees his skin and muscles boil and slough. To combat this weakness, Boreal is forced to encase himself inside a customized cryo-suit filled with a compound made from liquid nitrogen and cooled sodium potassium gas molecules to keep his external and internal temperature healthy enough to survive even temperate zones. Depending on the environment he has been deployed to, he will even have this compound injected into his very body in order to ensure he does not die by merely stepping outside of the transport.
  • Pure Ranged Combat: An arrow screaming through the air is just as deadly when silent. As a close-medium ranged specialist, Boreal can suffer when dealing in purely ranged combat. If incapable of advancing upon his enemies to close the gap, Boreal will be put on the defensive and be forced to find some way to return to the offensive.
