PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Multipurpose Shield
  • Weight: Light
  • Resistances:
    • Energy: High
    • Kinetic: Average
    • Lightsabers: Low
    • Ion/EMP: Very Low
    • Radiation: High
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Shockweb Covered: Bodhar's exterior facing is coated with shockweb, allowing it to act as a stun panel. This allows the user to either prevent people from grabbing it, or to use it more offensively by pushing it into people. The powerpack on the Bodhar typically gives it up to a 30 minutes of continuous use.
  • Retractable firing Port: Bodhar has a firing slot on its upper right corner which allows a gun or other weapon to be more easily used in conjunction with the shield. A sliding agrinium plate can be locked into place to cover this port for more protection instead.
  • Holo-Recorder: Just above the firing port is a camera which allows the user to film whatever's in front of the shield. Police and gendarmerie units tend to use it to collect evidence during riots and other events for later analysis and to corroborate testimonies. Military units often transmit the feed from the shield itself to higher-up command echoleons to give commanders a real time view of what their troops are seeing.
  • Set-up Stand: A "kickstand" has been built into the inner face of the shield, allowing it to be easily propped up on the ground without the user having to actively hold or touch it.
  • Modular Systems Slot: The boss of the shield is actually a modular compartment that hold a number of supplemental devices. Police officers mostly commonly use a pressor field generator module, which can help push back many humanoids and slow down impromptu projectiles such as rocks and other thrown objects that might be encountered during riots. Another popular option is a small tanglefoot field projector, which can slow down the movements of individuals several dozen meters in front of the shield. A fusion lantern module is sometimes used to aid guards in spotting intruders during the night, blinding opponents in close quarters, or providing heat in cold weather. Lastly, a small holo-projector module allows the user to project images in front of the shield for a variety of reasons - riot police might use to display warnings to rioters while a canny soldier might display a bush or some other terrain feature to help conceal himself when stationary.
  • Magnatomic Grip: Using gription panels in the shield's handles make it more difficult for the user to accidentally drop the shield or have it otherwise be ripped out their hands.
STRENGTHS
  • Energy Resistant: Bodhar's outer shield face is made by moleculary bonding agrinium, which makes it fairly resistant to breakdown by energy weapons.
  • Radiation Resistant: Agrinium was chosen as the base material for its lightness, but a secondary effect is that agrinium is known for its good radiation resistance.
  • Modular: Despite its simple appearance, Bodhar modular systems slot can give its users a number of unusual abilities that can prove useful in certain situations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Susceptible (Lightsabers): No thought was given to protecting the user with lightsabers with this design, with the molecular bonding process providing only a little protection against the cutting power a lightsaber.
  • Susceptible (Ion/EMP): Bodhar has no material choices or design features that protect the user or any of its electronic components from either EMP or Ion weapons.
DESCRIPTION
Physical shields have largely fallen out of use with most galactic militaries because of their encumbrance and limited area of protection. However, riot shields such as the M3 Bulwark and Activv1 still are fairly popular among police and security forces because of their relatively low cost and the nature of the threats that they face. Lucerne Personal Defense's Bodhar-series Blast Shield is a slightly more advanced version of these basic designs, largely due to the inclusion of a small power supply and a modular systems slot set in the boss of the shield. While many users simply don't fit anything into this slot out of cost concerns, better funded riot and military police forces commonly outfit them with pressor and tanglefoot field generators to supplement their larger riot control equipment and enforcement vehicles. The other two modules available, the fusion lantern and holo-projector module, are far less common but tend find use with independent operators and smaller militaries in the mid and outer rims based on local conditions and concerns. Lucerne Personal Defense designed the Bodhar-series full knowing well that it'd be a niche product, but sales have been steady despite the low numbers, which will likely mean that it remain in limited production for a long time to come.
